WTF?

I think MSNBC just compared President and Mrs. Obama’s visit with second graders yesterday to My Pet Goat and 9/11. But I’m not 100 percent certain. At around 9:20 a.m. eastern, Tamron Hall threw to Contessa Brewer who said:

CONTESSA BREWER: Tamron, this was something of a flashback for many of us. As his nominee for Health Secretary was going down, the first couple paid a surprise visit to a DC charter school to read a book to children. It was a trip that was planned, but not announced. After the book, the president took questions from boys and girls who are the same age as his daughter, seven-year-old Sasha.

You make the call, but I’m pretty sure Brewer compared the event yesterday to My Pet Goat.

UPDATE: Maureen Dowd did it too. Eric Boehlert quotes Dowd:

On 9/11, President Bush learned of disaster while reading “The Pet Goat” to grade-school kids. On Tuesday, President Obama escaped from disaster by reading “The Moon Over Star” to grade-school kids.

Sweet merciful crap. So Tom Daschle withdrawing his nomination for HHS is like a terrorist attack in which 3,000 people were killed. And President Obama reading to school children while Daschle withdraws is just like Bush’s frozen state of torpor while Americans were dying in New York.

Very serious! I’m so glad the New York Times and MSNBC are in the tank for Obama.

What’s worse, Bob, is that Brewer seemed to be comparing Daschle’s pulling out of the HHS job to the worst terrorist attack in American history. These people truly are that shallow.

Meh. I’m out of outrage at the conservative media. I will acknowledge that this is new heights in hackery and move on.

Bob, if your transcript is correct, then I find that the comparison of Daschle “going down” to planes going down is much worse.

I heard it too.. I just shake my head at this..”liberal media” and go on… remember they are “in the tank” for Obama and they got him elected. MSNBC especially is on the left.. the extreme to FOX…come on they couldn’t be putting him down… snark intended here….

I saw that article too, Cowboy. And it is a total WTF. I think Cheney has an Obama voodoo doll in his desk drawer.

  • m4rk0

Unbelievable. And this is why I no longer watch the news on TV…except for Stewart and Colbert.

Take a deep breath, Bob and repeat after me, The corporate media is neither fair and balanced nor our friend. To avoid future dangerous spikes in your blood pressure, if attempting to view an infotainment program, be sure to have the remote in your hand with your finger on the mute or on/off button ready for quick action.

Well I say FUCK YOU, Cheney. We were attacked under YOUR watch, and the last thing I want from you is advice on how to protect ourselves at the cost of our civil liberties. What the fuck are we fighting for if not to remain free? Your fearmongering was more terrorizing than anything we got from Al Qaeda since 9/11. You did their job for them and gave them exactly what they wanted: for Americans to be fearful. “Terrorized,” if you will.So take your advice and your fearmongering and just go away and die already. I’d have an ice floe ready for you, but you ignored global warming as well, you decrpit, evil fuck.

MSNBC keeps spouting “Obama’s poll numbers are dropping!”, using the misleading Drudge-esque logic that Mark Halperin posted on his “Page” yesterday. The first number they are using from a “How do you think Obama is handling the transition?” number (which was 84%. Honestly, there was no way that number was going to hold), which was separate than any Obama approval rating specifically, just one question that that particular poll asked. Then, he cites Obama’s job approval number from Gallup (which is even a different polling firm than his first number, but whatever), and says “19 point drop!” No, actually, the approval number is two points down from what it was two weeks ago, which was the second highest in history for a president. Asswipes.

  • Erin

*for a new president, I mean. My point is, they are really exaggerating and making it seem like the stimulus debate is making his numbers dip, when the “how is he handling the transition” number is not something comparable.

Contessa Brewer is typical of the nitwit know-nothing newsreaders that plague the airwaves. Not a nano-nugget of brains among them. They chirp on as if their mouth droppings had import, too stupid to know how stupid their reporting is.

  • Jan

And naturally on Morning Blow they were talking like Darth Cheney was still relevant. And they continued to whine about how the dems are so MEAN to the rethugs because Pelosi and Obama said we won.awwwwwwwwwww to damn bad. After 8 long nightmare years a hell of alot more dems should be screaming WE WON hahhahhaaa from the rooftops.OUR. MEDIA. JUST. SUCKS.

  • SillyGit

The corporate media is simply the propaganda dispensers for the corporatists that run this insane asylum. News readers is not quite correct, they are propaganda readers. Most of those in the media know this, I don’t know why so many outside the media refuse to see it for what it is.When you realize that they are manufacturing consent, it all makes sense.

  • idreamofskiba

I like how Bush learned of disaster and President Obama escaped from disaster.Glad she made that clear in her comparison.

  • cminri

And you wonder why I dont watch any cable news duirng the day anymore! I need to keep all the brain cells I have left, thank you very much.

  • MZ

I liked how they said “President Obama escaped from disaster by reading “The Moon Over Star””, as if the particular children’s book that he reads is what determines what happens while he reads it.Why, oh why, did Bush choose “My Pet Goat”? Everyone knows that’s the book that causes terrorist attacks!

  • avkodoll

I thought I was as low and depressed as I could possibly get after finishing reading Russ Baker’s “Family of Secrets”. But reading through these comments has proven me wrong!Could it possibly help if enough of us lefties, with maybe some large help from George Soros, started up a TV channel that really WAS liberal? Don’t we have to do SOMETHING to combat this crap??

  • rick390

If by “being in the tank” you mean taking a sweet story and ginning it into a facsimile of 9/11 then God bless ‘em they are surely in the tank for Obama.

  • Frank

How quickly you Democrats turn – you loved the media when the got Obama elected. They say one bad thing about him and suddenly the media is terrible. Says alot about you.

  • BobH

Like most of you, I have been astounded at the inaccuracy of many of the “newsreaders”. And it’s not only about politics. I’ve seen them report things that I saw myself and then wondered if I actually saw what I saw and heard what I heard. Maybe some of these folks see and hear better than I do. Or maybe in their quest to get top ratings they simply report things in the manner they believe will be the most tittilating to the most people. Nahhhhhhhhh, they wouldn’t do that would they? Where’s Walter Kronkite when we need him. When he said something you could rely on it.

  • Connie

Morning Joe is about the worst I have ever seen or heard in my 75 years. They have never been in the Obama camp, as that’s okay. However to sit there morning after morning trying to tear down this President is unforgivable. They have only one side and never have both sides on. Mika is disgusting and as dumb as she looks. I for one no longer look at them. I go to CNN, while I might not agree with everything at least I get to hear both sides of the debate. LETS BOYCOTT MSNBC!!!!!

  • David

MSNBC has been and remains Obama’s whores.
