Jindal has admitted that the Katrina story from his speech the other night was fake.

…a Jindal spokeswoman has admitted to Politico that in reality, Jindal overheard Lee talking about the episode to someone else by phone “days later.” The spokeswoman said she thought Lee, who died in 2007, was being interviewed about the incident at the time.

So let’s make him president! Go Republicans! You’re doing great!

    Wasn’t even a hero’s tail. Sherrif Lee heard about the boats after the fact too. Here’s what he said on Larry King Spetember 11, 2005:

    …KING: You’re not getting it.LEE: I fully believe that when then matter is looked into, we tried to get some boats in the water early on. When I realized that we had a problem, I was the one that made the call in WWO (UNINTELLIGIBLE) radio if there was anybody with a boat to come to a place so that we can get the boats in the water because I was around when — the other big hurricanes, and most of the rescue done early on were individual fisherman, recreational fisherman that had boats that went in the water. Those boats where not allowed to get into the water when they were needed and I just found out about seven days later one of the reason boats couldn’t get in was they didn’t have enough life preservers and some of them didn’t have proof of insurance. And I’m sure that there’s a FEMA regulation that says that. But when a storm of this magnitude hits, you through those regulations out the window and you do what you have to do and start saving lives.KING: Sheriff, we’ll have you back again. Congratulations on your work. Sheriff Harry Lee the sheriff of Jefferson Parish.

    I called Bullshit on this the moment he uttered it. It was such an obvious fabrication. Just like the lie that some intelligence guy would be afraid to “use enhanced techniques” if America was being threatened by a nuke attack because he might be prosecuted for it.They love to construct these elaborate Fantasyland scenarios where one of them is prevented from being a hero by the big mean bureaucracy.Why this tale instead of one perhaps of him trying to secure funding for Katrina reconstruction, or one where he stood up to contractors charging too much, or of how he demanded the President return Louisiana’s National Guard troops and equipment to aid with reconstruction?They always want to play hero and never want to do the hard work of being heroic.P.S.Dear Bobby Jindal-Wasn’t Sheriff Lee the guy that prevented people from crossing a bridge to safety because he was protecting an affluent white neighborhood?Very heroic.

    I remember the time Bobby Jindal was trying to climb into a volcano and stop it from erupting, and the bureaucrats said, “No, Bobby, you don’t have the proper paperwork,” and Bobby said, “Well, by golly, you can arrest me and this volcano because I’m going in there!” And then he defeated the volcano, without any help from volcanic monitoring (whatever that is).Or maybe I’m making that up. Oh well — Bobby won’t care.

    Wow. I so wish we were having elections next week. Could it get any worse for republicans? Maybe. They’ve gone from a strong majority to a fringe party in just 4 years. Ironically it pretty much started with Katrina and here Jindal bookmarks it by lying about his self-imagined heroism during Katrina.

    I’d just like to address the sheriff’s comment about boats not allowed in the water due to insufficient life vests. I’ve heard a statistic indicating that in rescue attempts by untrained responders, 1.1 people die for every person who dies in the original incident. Well-meaning people under stress who want to help, but don’t take the appropriate safety precautions, will slightly more than double the body count.It’s a nice inflammatory comment about them darn gummint bureaucrats getting in the way, but as usual in these examples, the real numbers don’t back them up. Since I’d expect that the good sheriff has had to sit through any number of emergency response training courses as a condition of his employment, I’m sure he’s quite well aware of that fact. If so, he’s disingenuous, if not, his qualifications are suspect.
