Anatomy of a Smear

Just staggering. For measure, here’s a reminder for Willie Geist and the rest. No one in the establishment media, save for perhaps Olbermann, made mention of Bush’s seven year smirk when discussing Iraq casualties and war.

That is an excellent compilation of exactly what happened. A 43 minute interview boiled down to a 15 second giggle. The weird thing is I knew it would happen. A family member text messaged me about what we agreed was an excellent interview. I wrote back, “Yeah, but all they’re gonna talk about was his laughing during the auto bailout question.”It’s so. Fucking. Predictable.

I heard the laughing meme before I actually heard (podcast) the 60 minutes piece. I was expecting some kind of cringe-worthy bundle-of-nerves laughter.Instead, it was 20+ minutes of very interesting, well-informed interview, with a chuckle about his position and having to clean up Bush’s mess in sometimes unpopular ways. And maybe since I listened to it, rather than watched it, I might have missed the teleprompter that he must have brought along on the stroll of the WH grounds.

AC, the teleprompter was taped to his back, of course. How could you have missed it?

yet even olbermann picked up the “what’s he laughing at” meme. the press is a joke, only it would be funner if it wasn’t so destructive.

O.T.A.I.G. executives that had been given retention bonuses so that they would stay and use their expertise to wind down their accounts are now quitting. This will likely cause the U.S. taxpayers to have to dish out much more than the $185,000,000 that the retention bonuses would have cost us.I thought all along that this was a sabotage move. The retention bonuses were being equated to performance bonuses very disingenuously. The two concepts have nothing in common. They leveraged the man in the street’s ignorance about retention bonuses so that a huge monkey wrench could be thrown into the AIG cleanup. It looks like it worked. The retention bonuses were the wrong thing to freak out over. Perhaps that will become clear now. We have been punked again. What the hell is the press doing. Only myself and another anonymous commenter here bother to point out what retention bonuses are and why it is probably a bad idea to not pay them. So anonymous commenters on GDAB have a better handle on this than the MSM? WTF?Here is the resignation letter that triggered this rant: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/25/opinion/25desantis.html?_r=3&ref=opinion I’ll repeat one more time. Retention Bonuses are given to key employees that you can not afford to lose at times when they would otherwise run away screaming. It is a bribe to stay and bail out the water. The run away screaming has begun. I hope they have enough left to bail the water. Would you take a job there? I would not.

The economy is no laughing matter! It’s also not a football game…RUSH.

rove set the tone the last few elections…attack the strength. Now that the permanent campaign has become a permenant negative campaign. Obama, brilliant, knowledgeable, thoughtful, thought provoking, serious, articulate, empathetic… so much like John Kerry’s wounds weren’t real, all his attributes are illusions. speaking in sentences? Only because of a teleprompter. Serious…no he is laughing at the problems.. and on and on.

While the media was reporting how terrible this laugh gaff was, GM stock has gone up 7% and Ford 6.5%. This Presidential laughter must stop. See how it is effecting the markets!

  • MG

When Obama laughs I laugh with him. He was making a valid joke. When the chimp laughed I wanted to punch him in the face… with a sharp object in my fist.(paraphrasing for hyperbolic effect)”President Bush, when the blood and gore of tens of thousands of innocent people rains down on your head whe you visit Iraq does it affect you?”"I thought you were going to ask about the pig. Hehe hehhehehehehe.”

  • ElMystico

Gah! Why is this always the way? Take a tiny thing that, taken out of context, could be made to sound bad and make a big deal out of it. It’s a pitiful tactic, but the media seem to fall for it every fucking time. 20 minutes into a completely serious interview, the president dares to laugh!?!?! That means he doesn’t take anything srsly?!?!?!Oh and “some people are saying” things. Well, some people also eat squirrel pudding, and I wouldn’t take their menu suggestion seriously either.

The video from your HuffPost is no longer available. I wish we could find it and try to give it wide distribution….

My favorite part of the whole thing is in the bottom right corner of all of the pundit show-screens. They talk about how bad it is for Obama to laugh about the nation’s opinions on bailouts while simultaneously showing the nearly 500 point gain the Dow made that day.Hilarious!

Wow. It’s about time the tables have reversed. Now the liberals get to see the media attacking their side for a change. This makes me chuckle like Obama, the baby killing president of the united socialist states of america.
