    Uh oh.

  • GItheJOE

This is not going to go well. Why isn’t Leno live? I thought that was part of the fun. I can understand a 6 second delay in case someone slips a naughty word into the mix.

2nd time he’s caught at this. Bit of insensitivity there with him…Well, no one’s perfect, but this is going to be the next outrage.QT

  • http://www.thenewwearsoff.com/ Kyle

    Epic fail.

  • Kat

Oh, dear. A bit too relaxed, were we?

  • Kristin

Crap. Pretty sucky.Eunice Shriver’s gonna be on him, and boy, is it gonna hurt. Caroline. Ted. Not going to be pretty. Let’s remember how Special Olympics started, mmkay?

  • Zanath

If this is the next “outrage” then “outrage” will have officially jumped the shark. Stupid thing to say? Yes. Does this really matter in the grand scheme of things? No, not really.

  • http://www.thenewwearsoff.com/ Kyle

Zanath, you know as well as I that the media cares not about what is important in the grand scheme of things, so expect some MSM outrage.

  • Mike

Here’s the play:It was wrong for him to say it and I’d like to hear an apology… a real apology, not a non apology apology. But before any high horses are mounted, let us recall the incredibly offensive things said and defended by Republicans under the defense of “it was only a joke.” We won’t have to go back too far, will we?

  • SillyRatfacedGit

I think y’all are making a mountain out of a mole hill.I laughed. The audience laughed. I think that you are being hyperPC. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.I have friends that have been in the Special Olympics. I’ll call tomorrow and see what they thought.

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

I got $5 in my pocket that some fucking media hack asks Sarah Palin what she thinks of that remark, ’cause, you know, she has that baby and cares so much about special needs children. This will be all the talk tomorrow on Doucheborough, Hannity and O’Reilly. Bet on it.

I laughed. The audience laughed. I think that you are being hyperPC. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 20, 2009 1:16 AMThe people were laughing at Leno’s reaction, not Obama’s remark. Obama said it under rather loud laughter, like he was sneaking it in or something. From what I’ve seen of the clips, I must begin to agree with Doucheborough’s quotation from this morning, which I posted here earlier. This is just silly nonsense in the middle of an economic crisis.I’ve attended Leno’s show twice as an audience member. The first time I went I didn’t give a damn about him. I was there for the guests. But I fell in love with his demeanor and genuinely humble attitude. I must include this disclaimer because I’m basically indicating that this sort of thing is nonsense for a president to be involved with, especially during this time.Did Rahm Emanuel advise him to do it? That great genius….

  • Lexaburn

Yeah, Obama stepped in it with the little remark, but he’ll just apologize, and all will be forgiven. We know that he really meant no harm. What, are we going to start labeling the president as “anti-special Olympic athlete.” Well, I know the Republitwerps will, but will we critical thinkers not chuckle watching them attempt to make some of this? This failed attempt at self-effacing humor of President Obama’s is no big deal, really.Oh, other than the fact that it gives the unsinkable Mrs. Palin an consistent attack line during what, ultimately, will be a floundering presidential campaign in 2012, this is small potatoes.Shit, he probably should have said he bowled like a girl or something. If he really wanted to go for the big reaction from the dorks, he should’ve said he bowled the way Bush governed for 8 years.

  • Lexaburn

Before you know it, the GOPunks are going to waste money on attack ads because of all this. That, or they’ll simply prompt their puppets in the swine/”liberal”/BBQ/useless media to discuss the many “fascinating” nuances of Obama’s throwaway line on The Tonight Show.

  • GeorgeJungle

Shouldn’t have said it…agreed. Everyone says something at some point that doesn’t come out exactly right. An official apology to that community would be in order, and should suffice I would think. His intent was to poke fun at himself, it just didn’t come out exactly right.

  • http://www.netmediazone.com Tim

Or the sound bite would be great for a Ben Stiller movie.

  • ceu

Oh, other than the fact that it gives the unsinkable Mrs. Palin an consistent attack line during what…Let’s remember that Palin halved Alaska’s grant money to her state’s Special Olympics. That’s how much she cares.

  • Lexaburn

Uh, CEU, you don’t think a little hypocrisy like that will stop Palin from attacking someone, do you?I mean, were you actually watching the general election? Mrs. Palin had a list a mile long full of contradictions, as did McCain. That didn’t stop either of them from talking a lot of junk.

  • joshd

OK, I did not watch the interview because i loathe Jay Leno THAT much, but I’m sorry: That is the most awesome remark ever made by a sitting president.

  • 24hourjack

like i said in the other post,im the uncle of a little girl w/special needs and it disturbs me that someone who i ve defended and supported relentlessly could be capable of saying something so insensitive.however,i am perfectly willing to chalk it up to an otherwise sensitive person attempting to be funny while out of his element.however,i dont think just apologizing in a press release and leaning on his reputation as a charming guy.i expect him to come out and adress the issue in an open, honest way.in fact, during the upcominf address to the nation would be a good time.i understand that by doing so he runs the risk of making it a bigger issue than it otherwise would have been.but sometimes, whats best politically HAS TO take a back seat to simply doing whats right.and anyway, coming out and facing it head on,even at the risk of some short term political damage could end up benefiting him long term in the sense of showing people that he really is willing to do things differently.it could be a tremendous example of bringing real, legitimate political change.

  • BrokenArrow

Speaking from one who was raised in a family with a special needs brother with Down’s Syndrome, and a member of the Special Olympics, I took no offense.People calling other people “retards” is offensive. This joke wasnt’t the best, but the intention to hurt or insult the special needs population was clearly not present. Lighten up!

  • BlueFan

Apparently I’m in the minority – don’t think it’s a big deal but naturally a big fuss will be made about it.Our previous fucktard Prez was a walking, talking gaffe but IOKIYAR.
