Good News on the Obama Budget

Ezra reports:

What [Budget Director Pete Orzag] did say, on a conference call a few minutes ago, is that “we are very pleased that the House and Senate budget committees are considering proposals that are 98 percent the same as the budget proposal the President sent out in February.” He said that “out of 18 discretionary spending categories, 13 are exactly the same in the Senate and 12 are the same in the House.”

Healthcare, energy and education reform are collectively growing larger in the window. Hopefully there will be a filibuster-proof reconciliation vote at the end.

We don’t need a filibuster proof vote if it is for reconciliation. That only takes a simple majority.
Hopefully we can get this done!
In other news, I just noticed Amazon.com is removing “one star” reviews of Mark Levin’s book. I posted one yesterday morning which inspired all the dittoheads out of the wood work. After some harsh back and forth my review was deleted…
There used to be 20 1 stars, now there are only 15 and dropping…

Sent to Alaska Mark Begich on March 25, 2009:Mark,To see that you have aligned yourself with Evan Bayh and Joe Lieberman (and other “conservative Democrats”) against key elements in President Obama’s proposed budget (and as such, against middle-class America) is a huge disappointment.Pragmatism is one thing, betraying your core principles is something else entirely.Perhaps, though I’ve known you for many years (and donated to your campaign), I never really understood what your politics actually are.The term “Democrat in name only” is rattling around in my head at this point.Frankly, I don’t expect an answer (since I received no confirmation that my last message had even been read by anyone in your office) but I’d be very happy to give you an opportunity to explain.Patrick MaloneKenai, Alaska

Blakeman was just blustering that the GOP HAD to use budget reconciliation because they had such a slim majority & it was the only way to get it past – but it’s unfair of the Dems to do the same thing because…..they have a bigger majority, apparently.Good letter, Pack. good luck with an answer…
