Bob-Since I saw your posting of ” The Larger Bowl ” video some months back, I have become a huge Rush fan. Thanks for showing me that there is more to the band than ” Tom Sawyer “.

The amazing thing about Rush is their most recent work is, hands down, their best work. That’s not to say their older stuff is bad — it’s just that their new album is outstanding.

The TreesArtist:RushThere was unrest in the forest,There was trouble with the trees,For the maples want for sunlightAnd the oaks ignored their pleas. The trouble with the maples,(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)They say the oaks are just too loftyAnd they grab up all the light. But the oaks can’t help their feelingsIf they like the way they’re made. And they wonder why the maplesCan’t be happy in their shade. There was trouble in the forest,And the creatures all had fled,As the maples screamed “Oppression!”And the oaks just shake their headsSo the maples formed a unionAnd demanded equal rights.”The oaks are just too greedy; We will make them give us light.”Now there’s no more oak oppression,For they passed a noble law,And the trees are all kept equalBy hatchet, axe, and saw.

I listen to THIS Rush religiously. Nothin’ wrong with that.

Yes, shasta, Neil Peart was a Rand objectivist. In the middle 1970s.Arianna Huffington was a Republican in the 1970s.Cenk Uygur was a Republican, too.Thom Hartmann worked on the Goldwater campaign.Hell, I was a Republican — when I was 15 years old and didn’t know any better.

I’ve come to depend on Bob for providing excellent Rush videos. I love the live “Snakes and Arrows.” I need to pick up the DVD for late night, under-the-influence viewing.

Be cool or be cast out, right Bob? You really believe Pert grew out of his thoughts?Or that they buy your manufactured hysteria and childish intolerance? That they no longer believe in an intelligent life force? That their talents are just developed through primative colaboration and nothing else?Perhaps you should revist Permanent Waves, they weren’t exactly “young and dumb” when that was cut.

Read Peart’s own words on his political leanings, shasta. He describes himself as a left-leaning libertarian.Regardless, the great thing about music is that no matter what the original intent was, you can interpret your own meaning. It’s not like a political essay, the allegory intentionally leaves song lyrics open to interpretation.

Always loved Rush, my first concert was the Permanent Waves tour. What’s with the Barbie dolls in front of Alex Lifeson’s effect pedals?
