Challenged in court that civil unions are not the same as marriage – equal protection thing (IIRC) and the challenge succeeded. Blumenthal & Rell both said they would not fight the decision. Rell knew the votes weren’t there to overturn it. There was never a serious attempt to ban gay marriage here, although I’m sure the people who are against it were quite serious.VT had a civil union act – I think they were first – and now is moving toward a same-sex marriage law. The Senate was gonna be the hurdle, and it passed there something like 26-4. It is predicted to sail thru the House.
