Thanks, But No Thanks

Palin has priorities:

Gov. Sarah Palin is refusing to accept more than 30 percent of the federal economic stimulus money being offered to Alaska, including dollars for schools, energy assistance and social services. [...]

Palin is not taking about $288 million of the $930.7 million that Alaska is due in the federal stimulus. Palin said she is accepting the federal stimulus money that would go for construction projects, but not funding directed at government operations.

She’s claiming that the money she’s refusing would “grow government.” Sounds scary, doesn’t it.

Palin is turning down money for weatherization, energy efficiency grants, immunizations, air quality grants, emergency food assistance, homeless grants, senior meals, child care development grants, nutrition programs, homeless grants, arts, unemployment services, air quality, justice assistance grants and other programs.

Scary! Why does Sarah Palin hate meals for old people?

At least she’s accepting money for roads and bridges. That never backfires against her. Not at all.

    From Salon’s War Room:

Palin said in her statement that she doesn’t want to “dig ourselves a deeper hole in two years when these federal funds are gone.”

Yeah, ’cause why do something helpful for just two years when you can just not do it at all. That’s way better.

Bob – Even MORE reprehensible is that “The biggest single chunk of money that Palin is turning down is about $170 million for education, including money that would go for programs to help economically disadvantaged and special needs students.Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau said she is “shocked and very disappointed” that Palin would reject the schools money. She said it could be used for job preservation, teacher training, and helping kids who need it.”But not to worry. Palin also said that “she wouldn’t be surprised if the Legislature tries to change it (the education money, especially).”The plan is pretty obvious. Alaska, at the legislature’s insistence, WILL take the money. But Palin can then say, when she runs in 2012, “You betcha, I tried to cut government and such as, but that pesky Alaska Legislature! And also.”

Didn’t we just hear a story about some Alaskans having to choose whether to eat or have heat since they couldn’t afford both? Is she expecting that they will die so they won’t be able to vote against her?Keep it up Sarah. Soon only the deluded 30% will think you are swell. You betcha.

let me be the first to go on record predicting a scene at a republican primary debate where palin, mark sanford, bobby jindal, timpawlenty and possible haley barber spent large amounts of time debating over who refused the most stimulus money.as in:”you took nearly 40 percent of that bullshit communist socialist marxist gay marriage wealth redistribution money.whereas i refused any/all attempts to feed the homeless in my state.im staying true to conservative principles.whats your fuckin’ problem”?

Ms. Palin really frightens me. Or rather, I should say, I am frightened by the mindset of those who have put her into office, and are apparently happy to keep her there. What on earth are they thinking?

    Bobbie – they aren’t.
