Chris Matthews, I have to admit, has been impressive recently. Here he nails Ari Fleischer on the ‘No Attacks Mythology’.

    That is a great performance by Matthews, EXCEPT at the very end, when Ari suggests that Saddam was responsible for the 9/11 attacks (“Saddam might strike again”), and Chris doesn’t call him out on it!

    Yeah, Chris did okay here. Still seems like he’s pulling his punches. Of course, Ari handles himself well. Except, at the end, didn’t he say how could we take the chance that Saddam might not strike AGAIN? Was time a factor or did Chris not hear it… Of course, the excuse is just that the wording sounded like that’s what he said but that isn’t what he meant. Say it on primetime, correct it during infomercials.

    I don’t know, I sorta think Ari eats Tweety’s lunch here. I think Ari’s got his head up his ass, but I think a Conservative watches that clip and thinks Tweety’s a partisan bonepicker with a Liberal Media Bias. Not pleased.

    I completely disagree. Matthews looked overmatched just trying to duck the bullshit.No attacks since 9/11? Where was Tweety’s rebuttal? ANTHRAX MOTHERFUCKER! ANTHRAX!!!

    Matthews gave Ari “The Knife” plenty of room in allowing him to spew his spin (AKA ‘parallel universe stretches’, AKA ‘talking points’).Ari also came off angry, and if Matthews pushes too far, he loses him and may not get him back on the show again.That was a trademark of the w admin; Access on Their terms. Ask the wrong questions, and you lose access (see: Helen Thomas)…it’s a dance they do: Talk your talking points, attack the questioner as biased and uninformed if he “goes there” (kill the messenger -librul media and all) pass the blame on to the Dem’s, and and avoid any depth when discussing topics.Ari showed his stripes, andf Chris may have indicated just how long the leash is…

    I keep telling you guys – Matthews is wonderful. Every now and then, he’s an idiot. But he’s a sincere idiot. Or, he’s a paid one (I think sometimes management interferes). But at heart, Matthews LOVES Obama, and he’s concerned and excited in Obama’s favorite.QT

    Yeah, ok, I see what people are saying about Chris struggling in this exchange. BUT – the fact remains that Chris was on the right side of the argument. The only thing I can say I feel bad about is that Chris Matthews clearly wants to be liked by Ari, and so the kind of pushback and character assault that he comes under kind of winds him.Which is what happens sometimes when the commentator is as emotional as Chris Matthews.QT

    fleischer was being 100 percent disingenuous when matthews asked him about a theoretical attack on obamas watch.bush not only gets a pass on 9/11,we’re supposed to be wildly grateful to him for presiding over ONLY that one historicaly deadly attack.on the other hand,we’re already getting strong signals from the right(and others in the “liberal” msm) about how pres. obamas policies are dangerous,and closing gitmo is gonna lead to thousands of dangerous terrorists roaming around the united states(but dont worry about the terrorists gwb let loose,or those we couldnt prosecute because they were tortured).if there were to be another attack,big or “small”,you better believe republicans will not behave in a post 9/11 type way.
