Tonight Show

Other than the cringe-inducing bowling remark, the president was pretty damn great on the Tonight Show. Highlight video here.

Had I not heard Olbermann speak of the remark, I don’t think I would have caught it, as it was said during applause. Even replaying it multiple times to listen to the exact wording, I didn’t catch the first couple of syllables.I’m not excusing it, but I guess we’ll see how much it spreads by tomorrow.

True that, BC.It’s an awkward clip for the soundbite swine media to stew over, indeed. With that said, Obama’s got some apologizing to do, but it’ll all be okay.Unless “the party of woe” calls for his impeachment over this. Ahh, chances are months from now some Republisquare will probably fudge up their efforts to sabotage Obama by using the same comparison to describe his first few months as C-in-C, and everyone will go back to looking past Obama’s meager faux pas to focus on Republidork hypocrisy.

my 6 yr old niece has downs syndrome, and when i first heard the “special olympics” remark i was stunned, then pissed.but i tried to be completely objective about it and i realized that i could have made the same remark in the midst of attempting to be funny on national tv in front of a hundred people or whatever.so anyway,im gonna assume that as soon as he said it he got that sinking feeling and now feels genuinely bad about it.also,my sister-a religious conservative who doesnt like obama politically-dismissed it as a stupid remark that almost anyone could have made.of course now what we’ll get from the fnc/drudge/AM hate radio doucheocracy is that whole bit about “if this was bush…”

  • 24hourjack

and the bullshit umbrage being taken by steve doocy is truly disgraceful and nauseating and obnoxious.

  • TruthSerum

Pleese…imagine if this was Bush, Pallin, or MClain. You librals make excuses for this dummy every day. He is useless without Axerod bi his side.

  • JeremyB

Intersting. No sooner had 24hrjack wrote,

“of course now what we’ll get from the fnc/drudge/AM hate radio doucheocracy is that whole bit about ‘if this was bush…’”

…as if on cue, Truthiness comes in and replies with,

“Pleese[sic]…imagine if this was Bush, Pallin[sic], or MClain[sic]. You librals make excuses for this dummy every day. He is useless without Axerod bi[sic] his side.”

Like I said in the very first comment on this thread, there is no excuse for it. It was a dumb thing to say, and the President should be held to a higher standard. But if we’re honest with ourselves, I think everyone has used some form of wording to imply mental or physical handicap in such a way. “Retard” (pronounced ree-tard) has been used forever until it became politically incorrect, but I occasionally still hear some older people and comedians use it. I remeber using it in the playground as a kid and all through high school. It ws another version ov “dumbass” as far as I was concerned until you peel away what it really implies. “Duh” evolved from the same place when you exaggerate its pronounciation. And EVERYONE uses “duh.”

Obama’s “Special Olympics” comment wasn’t said in a malicious way and he was making fun of himself, so yes, the faux outrage is a bit much. I mean it wasn’t as if he was flailing his arms about making fun of people afflicted with Parkinson’s disease or anything.

@ 24hrjack – your sister is right. In an unguarded moment, anyone could have said it. I didn’t see Steve Doocy’s obnoxious display but I think he was upset because he actually is retarded. BOOM! See what I did there?

Oh, and Truthiness, I think he was pretty articulate without teleprompters. Surprise!

  • SillyRatfacedGit

Lack of teleprompters didn’t bother him at either of the CA townhall meetings either.

  • 24hourjack

or during any of the 25 or so debates he’s participated in.
