Wow… so now we are going to even THINK about making soldiers pay for their service related injuries? Um…Maybe we should recall Shinsecki for even thinking of it.QT

What the fucking fuck in a fuck sandwich?!When Shineski came up with this he might as well have just printed out “Obama Hates Vets” signs and handed them out to every Tom, Dick and Wingnut.

Crosses fingers that this goes the way of LaHood’s Prius Tax. I want to hear this:Shinsecki: Hey, I have a great idea, let’s have vets pay for their injuries!Obama: Um, No. Hell no.Shinsecki: Okay.

Yeah this is a bad idea. It’s on par with charging them for meals while recuperating and making them pay for phone calls home from their hospital beds.By the way, what if the service member has no private insurance?
Scribblechic
Jenski42,That’s exactly how its gonna go.Even if this is an option among several that they are discussing/debating, Shinseki’s a doof for saying so out loud. Can Gibbs do ALL the talking for everyone except Obama and Rahm…PLEEEASE! Sheesh!

Hey… I’m all for brainstorming and thinking outside the box in an effort to come up with ways to cut governmental overhead. But you brainstorm in a staff meeting, and reject out of hand any stupid ideas before they get out the door. This is incredibly stupid. Is there something in the water in DC?
GIthePotato
If this happens, soldiers should refuse to do anything that would put them in harms way because they will have to pay for their injuries. This can not happen.Where the fuck is the IAVA? They should be waterboarding Shinseki for this crazy.

WTF?! Has anyone stepped forward to begin damage control?

Why would a military man like Shinseki even entertain an idea like that? I have a feeling there’s something else going on here.
Shinseki didn’t come up with this idea himself. This is what is called a sanctioned “leak”.”Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.”This is a confirmation. Not the first time it’s been heard. Someone higher up than Shinseki came up with this eureka moment.

Things like this are why there are three equal branches of government. Glad to hear Congress hasn’t lost their mind, which some in the Obama admin obviously have.

Read it again. If the vet has private insurance that would cover the treatment, then that insurance has to pay for it first. Hell, that’s how TRICARE works for active-duty families now.
That said, it’s still a stupid idea that should have never seen the light of day knowing how politically charged it would be. Better to get things like this done when there isn’t such a, “we love the military (but for gawds sake don’t draft us).” Sort of like the way retirees & families don’t get the free health and dental care for life we were promised because it’s too expensive.

Is there something in the water in DC?
I don’t think it’s in the water, but it’s called insurance lobby funds (bribes).

I get that, PPP. I’m just wondering why Shinseki didn’t tell that “higher up” that they had to be out of teir fucking mind if they thought this was a good idea.

This will die in Congress-a quick death.WTF is Obama doing? Obviously the private insurance companies are screeching since they’ll soon will be irrelevent. Guess they would love to have millions of our vets paying for their crummy ass coverage.NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN.

The article doesn’t specifically state that Shinseki proposed the idea…more than likely it’s coming from Dr. Orsag’s office. My thinking is they want to use the Tri-Care model (of linking military with civilian health care providers, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses…but I could be wrong…the article doesn’t elaborate on specifics.
24hourjack
wow…this sounds like a terrific idea.next they can push through the fairness doctrine and follow that with some sort of kitten drowning bill,or an executive order to take away little girls teddy bears.im pretty sure the GOP is turning this into a 2012 attack ad as we speak.

Just imagine how this is playing on wingnut sites if it’s getting this kind of knee-jerk reaction here!

This one’s DOA, but it’s a little out of context. Vets’ private insurance already gets charged for NON-service connected health care. While I understand what Shinseki’s trying to do here, as a (mildly) disabled vet I give it a thumbs down.

What the fuck? How many speeches did we hear about taking care of veterans during the campaign? Was that all bullshit?

Earthquake, fire, terrible flood . . . LOCUSTS!
Back up. Read. Comprehend.

From the Eric Shinseki article:”Eleven of the most prominent veterans organizations have been lobbying Congress to oppose the idea. In the letter sent last week to the president, the groups warned that the idea “is wholly unacceptable and a total abrogation of our government’s moral and legal responsibility to the men and women who have sacrificed so much.”I couldn’t agree more. What really bothers me though is to compare and contrast the Shinseki statement from the “Obama administration” with the speech Obama gave to the miliatry regarding Iraq. Here is the relevant portion of that speech:”Expansion of Military, Health Care for VeteransYou and your families have done your duty – now a grateful nation must do ours. That is why I am increasing the number of soldiers and Marines, so that we lessen the burden on those who are serving. And that is why I have committed to expanding our system of veterans health care to serve more patients, and to provide better care in more places. We will continue building new wounded warrior facilities across America, and invest in new ways of identifying and treating the signature wounds of this war: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, as well as other combat injuries.Support for Military Families Is a Top PriorityWe also know that service does not end with the person wearing the uniform. In her visits with military families across the country, my wife Michelle has learned firsthand about the unique burden that your families endure every day.I want you to know this: military families are a top priority for Michelle and me, and they will be a top priority for my administration.”This Shinseki statement from the Obama administration is in complete contrast to the spirit of that speech…so what’s up here?
