Lynette Rice at Entertainment Weekly:

…word is that Sorkin is mulling over the idea of a new TV drama that takes a behind-the-scenes look at a cable news program (think: Keith Olbermann’s show on MSNBC).

Hurry up and mull. Then get this thing to air asap.

Incidentally, this would be the second time Sorkin has featured a character based on Olbermann.

Was Dan or Casey on Sports Night based off Keith? Either way this sounds like a fun idea. First, he can write a cable news show better than sketch comedy (cos man was the show-within-a-show on Studio 60 ever not funny). Also, as long as he doesn’t make another annoying doomed relationship that no one cares about the center of the show (coughcoughMatt&Harrietcoughcough) I’m sure it’ll work out.Although I personally think his next show should be The Adventures of Chesty Mrs. Bartlett.

I hate to say it, and its a sad truth, but a highly rated TV drama about such a cable news program would probably effect more change in the mind of the country than the actual news program it is based on. Perhaps it would up the viewing of the real thing on the side atleast.

I believe Dan was based on Olbermann, and Casey was based on Dan Patrick. I just finished watching my SportsNight DVDs, and I’d love to see another Sorkin show on the air.

I thought funnyman Bill Burr was already working on a similar parody. What happened to that?

Absolutely – this thing can’t get on the air quickly enough. Sports Night was one of my alltime favorites.
