Correction

On the Wednesday radio show with Lee Stranahan, I mentioned that Abu Ghraib, in the late Winter of 2004, was perhaps the first example of American torture revealed to the public. I was off by a little more than a year.

In December of 2002, the Washington Post uncovered violent interrogation techniques used by American officials at Bagram in Afghanistan, as well as the existence of CIA black sites and extraordinary rendition of prisoners to nations known for their questionable human rights records.

The following passage from the article caught my attention:

According to one official who has been directly involved in rendering captives into foreign hands, the understanding is, “We don’t kick the [expletive] out of them. We send them to other countries so they can kick the [expletive] out of them.”

So while there were the methods outlined in the OLC memos (waterboarding, stress positions, walling, the attention grab, etc — the methods being casually downplayed by the pro-torture right) there are a variety of other techniques which are barely being acknowledged in the current discourse — if at all. Some of those techniques are seen in the Abu Ghraib photos, but we may never know about what horrors were done in to some prisoners who were rendered to various lenient nations.

But we do know what techniques for which some of these nations are notorious: for instance, Jordan, one of our extraordinary rendition nation, uses beatings and strappado — the technique used on John McCain.

^ Not only oursourcing it but endorsing it in Latin American and the Middle East for decades, under both Republican and Democratic presidents.

Republicans excel at outsourcing. In fact they have outsourced all of their thinking to a specialized Elbonian think-tank called GOPthunk®. They all have cochlear implants so everything they need to say is fed to them from GOPthunk®. Sometimes you will see them pause and smile to themselves. This is when their personal Elbonian DT (designated thinker) tells them that the Democrat they are debating didn’t get laid last night. It’s all hush hush but it’s so obvious once you know about it. BTW, the Elbonians are still living in the dark ages and think Charlemagne is still running things.

Anyone that attempts to downplay this should be forced to watch Taxi to the Darkside. It has interviews with people who were actually there carrying out and witnessing these events.

Whenever I hear the word “render” I think of it like the term “render the fat” and get an image of broiling meat, meatgrinders etc., but associated with prisoners instead of beef. Very unpleasant word, for an unpleasant process(for the prisoners, not the meat).

Rendition is a legal term. It refers to the point at which an extradited prisoner is handed over to the agents of the state that asked for extradition.Extraordinary Rendition is your typical newspeak construct where you don’t bother filing the legal extradition request, instead you just kidnap them.Extraordinary Rendition is a euphemism for kidnapping. If they called it kidnapping (it is) it would sound illegal (it is). By calling it extraordinary rendition they are making something illegal sound legal. This is the kind of criminals we had running the country for eight years. The republicans will impeach over oral sex. Democrats can’t bring themselves to impeach even when the president uses the constitution as toilet paper. My disgust with the clowns in D.C. is pretty overwhelming. With the the exception of Rep. Kucinich every single one of them is an oath-breaking criminal. They failed to do their constitutionally mandated duty. They have no excuse that is even remotely valid just the typical politician rationalizations.

“[Expletive]” is such a beautifully medieaval/superstitious way of hiding one of the Evil Words That Corrupt The Mind Of Anyone Who Reads it.Anyone who seriously still does that shit needs to join the rest of us here in the 21st century where context matters much more than certain letters arranged in a certain order.
