Crazy Quote of the Day

“On his 100th day in office, Barack Obama enjoys high job approval ratings, no matter what poll you consult. But if a new survey by the New York Times is accurate, the president and some of his policies are significantly less popular with white Americans than with black Americans, and his sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are.” —Byron York, The Washington Examiner

Say… I wonder what President Bush’s approval ratings would’ve been without the evangelicals, or white southerners, or Republicans. All those evangelicals made Bush’s positions more popular than they actually were.

I’ve been breaking my own rule about not commenting on Quote posts, but jeepers creepers. There’s a word for someone who makes this distinction only when it comes to black people, but not white people.

Well, blacks are not REAL Americans, of course! Maybe my opinion should be weighted as just three-fifths of an opinion…

Incidentally, I don’t really approve of the job he’s done, on balance.

Okay, “Unapologetic Racist Bigots” $800 (music)DAILY DOUBLE!This Washington Examiner reporter once said that only because African-Americans faired their President better his approval ratings were high.

  • gypsy

bob, would that word be fuckingteabagsuckingpieceofshitratbastardracist?!

  • allincompassing

Here are the facts, Blacks only make up 16% of the population at best. That leaves ruffly 84% of the population that he is popular with. If you include the Hispanic population, then your down to a median of 70%. Either way, the president is popular because he is doing the job he was elected to do.Trying to phrase his popularity by race will get you no further than any of your other lame attacks. The man is Goddamn Awesome! And that’s a good thing with all the problems we have.

  • Theghostsong

OMG 13% of the electorate supports the first member of their ethnic group to hold the presidency.ALERT THE INTERNETS

Huh? ’cause like Blacks aren’t legitimate poll subjects, so when you do include them in, things become artificially inflated, not as they “actually” are? Or are Blacks included in the poll at a higher percentage than their numbers in the general population?Well, oops, actually that last one is an issue.New York Times/CBS News Poll: Obama’s 100th Day in OfficeBlacks are around 13% of the overall population, yet about 30% of the respondents in that poll (212 out of 701), so that does actually lead to an artificial higher average of positive results than would be found in the general population. Not that Byron York had the sense to note that fact fully. This is all he said along those lines: “(According to the U.S. Census, blacks make up about 13 percent of the population, while whites make up about 80 percent. The Times poll divided respondents into black and white, with no other groups reported.)”

  • stats

Oops on me. Well, I didn’t read “how the poll was conducted” before spouting off any better than Byron York apparently did. If a supposed bias in terms of percentage of black respondents is even what he was implying. I suspect he doesn’t understand statistics enough to even have been trying to go there, so we’re back to black respondents’ opinions not reflecting things as they “actually” are, and thus racism on his part, yup, yup. From “How the Poll Was Conducted”: For purposes of analysis, black respondents were oversampled in this poll. Phone numbers at which a self-identified black respondent had been interviewed in polls over the last nine months were recalled and a random member of the household was interviewed. If that person was black, he was included in the oversample. All blacks were then weighted back to their proper proportion in the poll, as determined by the Census Bureau.

So why exactly does it matter what color the people being polled are?Oh yeah, it doesnt matter unless you’re a racist fuckhead.

  • http://heatherbrion.wordpress.com Heather!

HA!But seriously, are you implicating that African Americans just nod to what their African American President is saying simply because of race? Really? As my Grandma would say: “Jesus Christ Shepherd of Judah.” You had better come with something harder than that. The implication that Black people can not have an independent thought not about their race is beyond fucking stupid. I mean its Hannity stupid.

Yeah, the far-right imbeciles’ race-baiting and fraud-peddling will get even more catastrophically…”special” throughout Obama’s years in office.

  • ODB

I think what he meant is that blacks should count as 3/5 a vote.

For forty-plus years, hasn’t that word been, “Republican”?

Stats -Thanks for the analysis of the polls statistical basis. It sounds to me that the statistical accuracy of the poll is actually pretty good. I’m not Nate Silver, but I know a bit about statistics and polling.Byron York – Racist Statistics Gumby.Dear Byron,Try reading things like What Oversampling Means in a Poll before writing things that make you appear to be a racist Gumby.

You’re welcome, SRG.Dang, some of the comments in reply to the original article are scary, indeed. As bad as anything out of Hot Air or RedState, etc. Way to bring them out of the woodwork, Byron. The black-white divide in Obama’s popularity

Obama could bone his own children on the steps of Capitol Hill. The media would cheer the ‘closeness’ of the Obamas, and blacks would start defending incest. Those opposed to his behavior would be labeled racist and closed minded.

Methinks Jack drives a pickup truck with a bull scrotum on the trailor hitch.

And then we have this gem:

    Joan of Argghh!

    Apr 29, 2009

It’s a vile example, but I’m afraid Jack is pretty much spot-on. The monolith of the black voter must be corralled and controlled at any cost. Racism is over except in the imaginations of the Media and the Politicians (but I repeat myself). The rest of us could care less about the color of someone’s skin. Too bad that makes for an equitable world-view that is unserviceable for political gain.

Rascism is over, but we have to corral and control the monolith of the Black voter.

That’s. Just. Despicable.I’ll bet Joan thinks Michele Bachmann is brilliant. These are my fellow Americans? How does this happen?

speaking of shallow, hateful clueless republicans…of all the shameful, misguided, narrowminded disgusting things said by republicans recently, virginia foxx saying-in front of sheppards mother-that the murder of matthew sheppard was merely a robbery, has to be the most disgraceful, right?arguing that climate change is simply made up,that more tax cuts for the rich and/or a complete spending freeze, everything michelle bachman says etc…these things are all funny, and mostly harmful to the republican party.but what foxx said, thats different.its thoroughly offensive, and it makes me wonder how we’ve come to a point where one of our two major political parties consists of many, many people who believe filthy nonsense like this.because its not just foxx who is arguing that there is no such things as a hate crime.beck had on someone the other day trotting out that fucked up line about “all crimes are hate crimes”.this isnt merely the “fringe” of the wingnut party(once they ALL move to the fringe, what happens to the people who used to be the “crazies”?),fighting against bills designed to help victims of hate crimes, fighting for the wealthiest while simultaneously fighting against tax cuts for poor/middleclass who need it most, openly hoping for the failure of the president of their own country and on and on…this is who these people have become.and its terrifying and sad that even 21 percent of americans would opt for the label of “republican”.

someone mentioned racism is only going to get worse for obama. i think you’re right. these people are not creative enough to keep covering up their words with innuendo’s. the nastiest of the nasty will come. but i hope they just get bored or lazy or drunk and find a hobby. like fixing some of the cars in their yard. hehe…
