Fakery

That anti-same-sex marriage commercial I posted last night appears to show real people who will be somehow oppressed if gay people are allowed to get married. Again, real people who the National Organization for Marriage seems to have plucked off the street to testify how gay people hate America.

Guess what?

Fake! Not real people!

    They have already lost.

I’m afraid these commie bastards will never let Youtube into their tubes again. I can’t make a link for you, but if you look up Lewis Black and gays, he does a great piece on gays destroying the American family. BTW,I love that Iowa is more progressive that California.

If you can’t do your job as a doctor (treating the unwell and infirm) and please your god at the same time, then honey, you’re not a bigot, you’re a Satanist.

  • rogect8

This attempted pushback against gay marraige is prettty much laughable. Their majority support is slowly but surely eroding, and their ideology is on its last legs. It would actually be funny to watch if it weren’t so repulsive.

  • Tusz

Was there ever any doubt that these people were actors? I’ve come to expect that of every commercial testimonial that doesn’t have a “not an actor” clause.

  • Shelley Bee

Tusz, the commercial Bob posted last night featured the brief fine-print disclaimer at the bottom of the screen “The stories these actors are telling are based on real incidents. Find out more at http://www.nationformarriage.org.” To be fair, unless that was added later in response to controversy, I don’t see how the group’s commercial was busted in a startling exposé. That they used actors is not exactly a scandal.

No, that would (most likely) be a Christian.

Satanists, being for all intents and purposes their own gods, can quite easily do their job as a doctor while pleasing said ‘god’. Wikipedia’s overview of Satanism is decent, have a look.

I expected that they’d use actors. I mean, seriously, we’ve seen the caliber of Fine Americans that appear at the kind of rallies that support this sort of commercial. Not nearly as articulate, or ethnically diverse, as we just saw in that commercial. It’s interesting that they see no hypocrisy in complaining that they are not being given voice in deciding this issue just as they are telling everyone else that their religious ideology should decide this issue for the rest of us.This is their last gasp. That commercial was nothing more than a badly composited death rattle. Once again, unable to form a rational argument to support their ideology, they are resorting to fear. Fear with lightening, like God uses when he wants to teach us all a lesson.Of course, the saddest part comes at the end when they claim to be coming together “in love” to protect their cherished way of life. What a bunch of fucking losers. And oh yeah, this thing is really amateur. Cue the endless stream of YouTube mockery that is sure to follow. Teeheeeheeeeeeeeeee!

Let’s publish the names and phone numbers of everyone involved. Bribe a production assistant for the information. The we should call the participants and ask them if they really despise equality. Are they proud to make a paycheck not peddling soap but peddling hatred.

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

I don’t think that’s the answer, Francis. They’re just trying to make a living. However, I think digging deep and finding out who is funding these commercials (airtime on Rachel Maddow couldn’t have been cheap) and what their names are would be far more productive. Shining a light on these bottom-dwellers would be better. They love to hide in the background and let others spew their hatred. Let’s see who they are.

I don’t care if they are just actors trying to make living. If that’s the case, hardcore porn would have been a more morally sound choice than participating in this shit.

I have a post up about this and have the out takes up on it too.. It is funny showing the out takes that are posted to YouTube… they are great.

The guy at the end of the commercial. Be sure to watch the cheesy flash video.

  • Lee B.

come on, don’t you guys get it? You’re discriminating against them by not allowing them to discriminate against you.

Thanks for the link to us, Awesomeness on a Stick! I sent it to Stephanie Miller and they played the video on air.Woot!

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

Those guys from the auditions don’t look like real actors. They could hardly read. I think they went around the back office there at Daystar Studios and asked if anyone wanted to show their love of Christ.Oh God (Thor)! I watched that video and horked all over my keyboard! YOU OWE ME A KEYBOARD KYLE!!The whole family gathered around while the girl plays the violin? Sheesh. The only thing missing from that lovely Christian Frontier Exhibition was an attack on their lives by the godless Indians…

Yeah, the woman who was defending this crap on Hardball yesterday mentioned the disclaimer. Of course she also kept saying ‘whenever someone disagrees with you, you call them a liar and a bigot.’ Well, sugartits, if you weren’t organizing against a particular group on a basically superficial level and y’know, saying things that weren’t true all the time, it would be harder to call you that. Also… HOW HOW HOW is your choice or freedom (to do what they don’t say) being taken away by The Gay™ getting married? And does that doctor not treat The Gay™ or is it only The Married Gay™ that forces you to choose between your religion? Also, if you’re a doctor, and someone has a broken leg, it shouldn’t matter who it is, you set the leg. I learned that from Chesty Mrs. Bartlett. I’m sorry, Chest Dr. Bartlett.

    Background Ad Rebuttal

“The Real Truth Behind the Fake Ad”

The general argument of the ad is that the push for marriage equality isn’t just about rights for same-sex couples, it’s about imposing contrary values on people of faith. The examples they cite in the ad are:

    1. A California doctor who must choose between her faith and her job.
    2. A member of New Jersey church group which is punished by the state because they can’t support same-sex marriage.
    3. A Massachusetts parent who stands by helpless while the state teaches her son that gay marriage is okay.

The facts indicate that (1) refers to the Benitez decision in California, determining that a doctor cannot violate California anti-discrimination law by refusing to treat a lesbian based on religious belief, (2) refers to the Ocean Grove, New Jersey Methodist pavilion that was open to the general public for events but refused access for civil union ceremonies (and was fined by the state for doing so) and (3) refers to the Parker decision in Massachusetts, where parents unsuccessfully sought to end public school discussions of family diversity, including of same-sex couples.

All three examples involve religious people who enter the public sphere, but don’t want to abide by the general non-discriminatory rules everyone else does. Both (1) and (2) are really about state laws against sexual orientation discrimination, rather than specifically about marriage. And (3) is about two pairs of religious parents trying to impose their beliefs on all children in public schools.

The real facts of each case are:

    • The California doctor entered a profession that promises to “first, do no harm” and the law requires her to treat a patient in need – gay or straight, Christian or Muslim – regardless of her religious beliefs. The law does not, and cannot, dictate her faith – it can only insist that she follow her oath as a medical professional.
    • The New Jersey church group runs, and profits from, a beachside pavilion that it rents out to the general public for all manner of occasions –concerts, debates and even Civil War reenactments— but balks at permitting couples to hold civil union ceremonies there. The law does not challenge the church organization’s beliefs about homosexuality – it merely requires that a pavilion that had been open to all for years comply with laws protecting everyone from discrimination, including gays and lesbians.
    • The Massachusetts parent disagrees with an aspect of her son’s public education, a discussion of the many different kinds of families he will likely encounter in life, including gay and lesbian couples. The law does not stop her from disagreeing, from teaching him consistently with her differing beliefs at home, or even educating her child in a setting that is more in line with her faith traditions. But it does not allow any one parent to dictate the curriculum for all students based on her family’s religious traditions.

Just as they pick and choose which portions of their scriptures to obey (paraphrased: homosexuality is an abomination, eating pork is an abomination, eating shellfish is an abomination), they also seek an a la carte ability to obey or ignore discrimination laws that everyone else is required to conform to just because of their belief in some fairy tale construct.Evil propaganda. Coming from Christofascists. Jesus weeps at what is done in his name.
