One conservative comeback to this is that there are more Democrats in jail than Republicans. They’re implying that being a Democrat influences one to commit crimes. But Democrats aren’t the types to suggest that people should arm themselves and prepare for revolution. They don’t suggest that the government wants to take away their guns. These are all things a number of conservative talkers say. There is a direct causal relationship between right-wing leaders implying a need for armed revolution, and some people taking that seriously and acting on it.The actual relationship between crime and Democratic party ID is that they are both spurred by poverty. Living in poverty increases one’s tendency to commit crime, because of social dysfunction or desperation. It also increases one’s tendency to be a Democrat, because Democrats favor policies that help lift people out of poverty.

The wrong wing is divorced from reality. They don’t live in the reality that most of us live in. Their perceptions see enemies everywhere. They misinterpret nearly everything they hear. They think that Fox News is actually a News channel.Many of these people secretly cheer these shootings. They think they are somehow justified. They do not want the Crazy™ to be toned down because they think the fantasies that Deludus Maximus is on about are true.I don’t know what we should do about this.The video game / Columbine connection reminds me of the scene in Repo Man when Duke lies dying on the floor of the convenience store he was robbing right next to the generic corn flakes, and he tells Otto that society made him into a criminal. Otto yells “Bullshit. You’re a middle class punk just like me.”Neither Society or Video Games make people pick up guns and do outrageous things. People do outrageous things because they have seriously bad judgment or they need help or both.That said. When you have large numbers of people living in a delusional version of reality, having people like Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann constantly talking about taking up arm and regaining control of the ‘stolen’ government is as responsible as walking around puddles of gasoline while smoking. You don’t really think that either party gives a rat’s ass about the poor, do you? Individuals within the parties might, but the party machine does not. The poor are merely a means to an end, a convenient sound bite for re-election. Giving speeches about helping the middle class or the poor is worthless; the words are as empty as a broken bottle.Despite what Democrats or Republicans will tell you, NOTHING substantial is being done to help the poor in our nation. Bob would argue most strenuously with me about that, but the proof is in the results. Currently, both parties spend most of their time gathering contributions from lobbyists and special interests; such as big oil, health insurers, pharma and big tobacco. If you want to eat at the big table, you’ve got to have millions to throw at the two parties.Otherwise, you’re just a sheeple to Democrats and Republicans.Maybe we have a President who can make a difference about that, but his own party will fight him tooth and nail on the issue of lobbying reform.
