He Wants To Take Our Nukes, Too!

Not only is President Obama trying to take your guns out of your cold beefy hands, but he’s also trying to take your thermonuclear warheads, too. Insurrection now!

(Adding… He’s not really trying to take your guns.)

The reactionaries will howl, which is fine. Obama said in his inaugural that he was going to work for peace, now he’s doing exactly what he said he’d do.Adding: Obama really needs to confront Teh Wacky™ head-on. If I were him, I’d look for a press question about the recent spate of shootouts and say: “Look people, I am not going to take away the guns. I don’t don’t want your guns.”

The dangerous thing here Bob is that someone might actually be thinking this and then go shoot 5 people.

Matt: the problem is that the kind of people who would partake in the violence wouldn’t be dissuaded by direct reassurances. They’d say he wouldn’t bring it up if he weren’t considering it; he’s just trying to lull us into a false sense of security. Absence of evidence is evidence of a coverup. And so on.

Tusz is right. Even if the entire staff of Fox News went on tomorow and told people to calm down, its already too late.

Tusz,It doesn’t matter what the tinfoil hat squad says. What matters is that Beck and his ilk are trying to take Teh Wacky™ into the mainstream, and the only way to counter that dangerous development is with direct verbal denial with a mild dose of ridicule. Here’s the TP I suggested for Barack in my blog the other day:You know, during the campaign I was explaining to a bunch of left coast liberals that Americans who’ve been disenfranchised and left behind by a changing economy are sometimes bitter about it. They feel left out and alienated and scared, so they cling to their guns.At the time, some people thought I was being condescending. But it seems like every time there’s another shooting, it’s always some poor, bitter guy who’s lost his job and has nothing better to do than watch wacky TV shows and listen to talk radio, and those guys encourage his bitterness. They tell him that I’m a cartoon villain who’s going to come and take away his guns.So let me say this right now: it’s not true. It’s not true. I don’t want to take away your guns. I don’t want to tear up the Second Amendment and turn ninety-three million Americans into criminals.Just as a practical matter, it’s impossible. It would be too expensive, too bloody, and too messy. There’s no upside to that scenario. No sane man would ever contemplate it.But there are some things I would do. I would enforce the gun laws we already have. I would change some rules so that Mexican drug lords can’t buy their guns in America. The FBI and ATF right now are investigating several cases where we have clear-cut and substantial evidence that guns used in this new wave of drug violence south of the border came from right here in the US of A, and that has to stop. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. I believe that sincerely. Let’s be brave and stop giving in to fear.

What next, our poverty and , too? Is there anything this president will let us keep to destroy ourselves? To do otherwise is, well, un-American! Un-American, I say!

I disagree Bob. President Obama actually came into my house, went to my closet and took my gun and wouldn’t tell me where he was taking it.Update: Robert Gibbs showed up today and brought my gun back with a thank you note from the President.
