I would just like to say that I’ve smoked a lot of pot. The only driving I did was to Del Taco. But I probably drove about like a person driving a Cadillac. So…outlaw pot smoking drivers when you outlaw Cadillacs.

I’m so sick of this argument about risking stoners behind the wheel; DRINKING and driving is illegal, so BEING STONED and driving should be illegal. The easy argument here is that kids aren’t going to FUCKING BARS and getting stoned, you call-in gimp!

Well, I tried to hold on to see if I could chime in again, because I wanted to say something to the caller after me. I’ll say it here.1st: congratulations on your recovery. Recovery from addiction is an achievement to be proid of, one day at a time.2nd: the driving argument cannot honestly be considered an argument against legalization – people drive drunk all the time, unfortunately. The DUI argument is rather a test of legislation. The point I’m trying to make is that legalization/decriminalization has to be done as a suite of legislation that covers consequence (DUI law is a consequence, but also, I argue for stronger consequence law in protection of family), and most importantly, treatment – including mechanisms for mandatory treatment in some cases.When Lee says he’d be upset if legislation reached the president and wasn’t signed, he apparently doesn’t account for the fact that legislation might be bad legislation. I would oppose any legislation that only got the decriminalization part done, but not the rest.QT

It already is. If you pass a breathalyser they make you take an impairment test. If you fail that, then you get arrested and they ask you to submit to drug testing. If you refuse the testing you are assumed guilty.Most scientific studies have not shown cannabis to impair motor function and coordination until the point at which you fall asleep. Several studies showed that video game performance was actually enhanced by cannabis. Studies done in Europe do not get much mention here outside the scientific circles. Those kinds of studies are virtually impossible to do here since Schedule I controlled substances are not available for any purpose, not even research. The DEA does not want lots of research that shows that cannabis does not belong on Schedule I which is what would happen if research could be done.

You never hear these anti-legalization nutbars raving about the dangers of a driver that’s had one too many cases of Milwaukee’s Best (*shudder*) getting behind the wheel, and as far as I know, alcohol consumption in this country is still legal.

I provided additional info to support your statement which was snarky and possible to misunderstand.I’ll also mention that cannibis does not improve everyone’s video game performance, in some cases it degrades performance. Cannabis’s effect on moter skills and hand eye coordination has barely been studied scientifically.The caller’s objection was a canard brought about by the common misinformation that is spread about cannabis.
