Give my regards to Broadway….just kidding Carl

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

I think the trolls have been set loose and are very hungry tonight.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

what makes you say that JM?

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Just the folks in the previous thread that are convinced that Obama is Hitler.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

    I want an ignore option.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

Hey gang! I won’t be participating tonight but just wanted to stop in and say hi! (Thanks, Vera! LOL) Kick some troll ass for me. ;) Heil Obama!

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

Carl-you have fun it is you are doing!random thought: I am watching BBC America and I want that stupid reality show for Andrew Lloyd Weber to be done. I don’t care about a multicolored coat!!also, over at balloon juice they are discovering the dirty sanchez, etc. I am having very bad flashbacks.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

that should have read Carl you have fun at whatever it is that you are doing, damn typist

Greetings.Obama is Hitler. What does that make Pat Robertson? Satan?

  • ElMystico

    >>Obama is Hitler. What does that make Pat Robertson? Satan?Right. And Pat Buchanan is that little furry guy who eats the crumbs that fall out of Jabba the Hutts boob folds.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

Myst, does that make Falwell Jabba?

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

I believe Git I saw a sign from one of the tantrums that said he was Stalin as well. Or was that Mao? The crazy is really getting thick. Although, after talking to some of the moderate McCain voters I work with, they are being pushed to the left by all this. That can’t be bad.

  • cminri

I think Lush Rimjob should be Jabba.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

even better cmok, so who is Falwell? The blob? no, the blob is too civilized and reasonable.I got nothing.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

I’m stepping out for pizza, but ABC is spinning the Chavez book thing as Obama getting “punked.”Details just went up on my blog.

  • Mike The Lurker

Is it me or does is seem that our country has slid apart like two continental plates? Instead of geothermic energy the rift in our nation’s citizens seems to be along political lines.I sometimes wonder if this is because of having just two political parties and that moderates have to choose which side of the fence to jump over based on which party appeals to most of their core beliefs. As a moderate Republican I found the whole tea party thing rather disappointing and the gentleman who was interviewed on CNN with a caricature of the president as Hitler offensive, akin to burning the flag, as he was disrespectful to a decent man (Mr. Obama)and also disgraceful to our highest political office. We lost the election, now get over it and pull together as one nation, or get the hell out.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

Mike the Lurker -We don’t hear from the moderate Republicans nearly often enough. I know you people are out there because I know many of you and I know that Rush Limbaugh does not speak for you.The crazy extremists have taken over your party. I don’t know what you are going to do about it. The moderates need to steal their party back or leave it to the Religious Right and start a new party.I agree with your statement and you have my support and sympathy. People like Dirksen, Goldwater and Buckley were good for this country. People like Cheney and Rove not so much. I want to see the fiscal conservative / social liberal republican party back.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

Vera – I’m checking in and out because I don’t have constant access to The Internets™. I’m on a spotlight tonight instead of running the lighting console. Very few breaks when you’re on a spot. I did manage a couple of comments on other threads though.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

MikeI have felt that way since Gingrich got his way in 1994. It really started with the religious right getting into politics in the early 80′s. Gingrich and his band of merry men ruined the way the US House of Representatives did their job. Everything became political. Even before w, it was you are either with us or against us. In the early 80′s, I started paying attention then, congresspersons worked with each other to get things done. The beginnings of the current sate of affairs were blooming, but things still got done.None of that happens anymore. Case in point, torture. 20 years ago who would have ever believed we would be debating torture? It was and is illegal and the debate ended in 1945.And for all the people out there who believe torture saves lives, nay Americans lives, and should be not only condoned but the law of the land-read the founding fathers on their thoughts. They were in a much more dire position than the idiots this week. The idiots this week CAN protest their government, even if they have no idea what they are talking about.sorry to have gone on and on, but seriously, we are Americans and we know better.

  • emsique

Hey Carl, did you see the Indians drubbing of the Yankees??? The Yankees broke a record 14 runs allowed in one inning!!!!!

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Score one for The Mom! (forgot how to do the handy-dandy TM thing, so just imagine it there.)My young semi-genius child, now 13, in the 9th grade, 2 years ahead of himself, lives in a world very different from the one his mom grew up in. I don’t just mean that he lives in 2009, while Mom was his age in 1980. I mean – he is surrounded both in his home neighborhood and in school, by non-black people. Much of his experience of blackness therefore comes from his family, his younger years, and his own self navigating his world. I’ve always had mixed feelings about this – on the one hand, I’m immensely proud of how well he navigates. He seems to have nice friends, he’s a nice kid, and he likes whatever music he likes, without worrying about it being “black” or “white.” STILL – there are some things I worry that are outside of his experience. I worry, for instance, that when I reference biblical stories long the province of black folk’s understanding of ourselves and our struggles in the world, he hasn’t much of a clue what I’m talking about – both because neither of his parents are Christian, and because he’s a product of the Obama generation – the generation of kids who think that it’s cool (but not a “I-never-thought-it-would-happen-in-my-lifetime” kind of thing) that Obama is president. He takes on all the benefits of increased self-confidence now that Obama is president – without having ever believed it was an impossibility in the first place.Anyway – feeling the need to correct the gaps without overburdening him with stuff that’s outside his reality – I bought him a book – “Julius Lester’s Black Folktales.” He looked at it and ignored it for about a week and a half. But today, with a little nudging from mom, he finally picked it up. It’s a short book – he’ll probably finish it today. But it was a genuine joy to see him grinning over some of the humor. He’s got such an amazing smile whenever he gets around to smiling for real… and he’s having a bunch of fun with some of the stories… “Mom! In this one, God says that Mrs. God is trying to get him to give up smoking!”This was one of my favorite books when I was his age – it had been my father’s and I asked permission to read it. I feel pretty good having passed this on one more generation. :) QT

Hey Carl! The spotlight sounds like fun, I probably shouldn’t go near itemisque–did I read correctly earlier, you said “spot on”???

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

sorry emsique for messing up your name

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

    nice QT :)

  • emsique

Mike,Things really used to be much more civil. Ronald Reagan and his nemesis, Speaker of the House Tip O’Neil were also good friends, and enjoyed drinks together. This politics of division is really bad for our country. It is dangerous and if it keeps up in this direction could end in much violence.I feel bad for you. When I was younger, the Republican Party actually were in many ways the responsible, grown up party.

  • dontpanic23™

I’ve just been told in last night’s PTT to STFU by heilo. I offered to apologize if we were wrong on it being him and not a troll who sounded just like heilo’s first ridiculous night here, but he has informed me that I should not only apologize but am to shut the fuck up, his words. I’m sorry but that ain’t gonna happen, icepick.I pulled my back out and don’t plan to hang around long but I thought those of you who still don’t believe heilo isn’t an asshole who insulted Carl and who called all of us one that first night weeks ago (and I’ve heard from a few of you), maybe you can talk Bob into settling the issue with an IP check. Meanwhile I’m not going to be told what to do by someone whose first words ever were insulting to all of us, including our host. Those of you who think heilo is an angel, have your fun but watch your backs until the issue is settled.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

emsique – I did! I loved every minute of it, being a Mets fan and all.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

emsique -Really nice bro. Poor Carlos stuck on a spot and you have to rub his nose in Yankee incompetence. The Phillies aren’t doing so well either. Pitching is teh suxor. It’s early. We’ll see what’s happening in Sept.(BTW, I root for the Indians because I knew two of their players who came from my hometown in PA.)

  • emsique

Vera, I did not say “spot on”. I wrote it. Git was being profound and I was moved so deeply that I was able to overcome great cultural barriers and make the baby step of writing it. It still causes gag reflex when I try to say it.

  • emsique

Oh Git you silly Pom. I knew Carl was a Mets fan. All my NY friends are from Brooklyn and I know in my heart how evil the Yankees are.I’m excited now because I can actually watch on TV here my Portland Trailblazers play the Houston Rockets in the playoffs. Anything with Yao Ming gets prime time here.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Mike, you didn’t abandon the Republican Party. The GOP abandoned YOU.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

either way emsique, very impressed with you!DP-you say whatever the hell you want and whenever the hell you want. I hope you feel better. If you want I can bring you some muscle relaxers.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

DP -why bother with that douche? I think he has a couple too many tequilas when he stops by. Maybe he ate the worm?

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

QT -Thanks for sharing that. It’s really good to have hope again.Carl -I guess we can rib one another. Mets and Phillies fans are natural enemies.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

Carl -Also too, I think this is the Mets year unless the Cubs decide it’s time to get their act together. The Rays may repeat in the American League, but the Red Sox spend lots of money.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

How’s the pizza Matt? BTW, reading is fundamental!! When I was 8 or 9 there was a program at the base I lived on at the library, I don’t know if it was nationwide or military or what, and it was called RIF. I have been a reader ever since! It would help this country if more people read. They could start with the Constitution and the bill of rights.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

I’m old enough (and Yankee enough) to remember RIF, Vera. The pizza’s excellent, btw.

  • dontpanic23™

Carl, until someone does an IP check there are going to be some here who believe this person–and I’m far from the only one as you may have seen in other places. Maybe I am wrong but I don’t think so. And since I’m not allowed to apologize or fucking SPEAK (according to this ice) I’m going to either wait until he is busted or ignore him if he is not. That kind of rudeness (from the start of his debut here onward) is not acceptable to me.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

emsique -I forgot Carl was a Mets fan. Your memory on such things is better than mine.DP -I don’t know what to make of hielo. I don’t consider anyone an angel, well maybe you, minx, gypsy, kat, vera, ady, and jane. But other than those I don’t think anyone is an angel. I think Carl’s theory is a good one.

  • emsique

Damn, this is the first chance I’ve had to enjoy PTT in a while due to moving, delayed internet install, and baaaaad stomach. It’s a beautiful day here in reverse time land and I gotta go birthday shopping for my wife. So in parting, I’ll just say, “Fuck Joe Scarborough, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Bachman, Tim Geithner and Larry Summers!” Oh yeah, and fuck Bruce the Fauxstralian too!

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

No one has called me an angel in a long time, thanks Git :) Enjoy your day emsique!

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

DP? You weren’t playing in the grass on this beautiful day right? I have an image of you lying on a hammock reading a book.

  • dontpanic23™

Thanks, Git. I haven’t been called anything nice all day and “angel” might be pushing it but I’ll take it. I’m starting to get a complex. I’m just past benefit-of-the-doubt since I was verbally bashed just now on last night’s PTT–and yes, I know I dished it out but I feel I have the right to speak here. I can’t even reach the floor because of this back thing and I’m cranky. Sorry, guys. This just bugs me and it could be so easily settled.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

Git – I would love to see the Mets go all the way, but the Sports Illustrated cover jinxed that. Still, it’s a long season. And even though you’re a Phillies fan, good luck.Vera – YES! I remember the RIF commercials when I was a kid. It was a national program.

  • dontpanic23™

Vera, playing in the grass–or the weeds between the few blades–is the reason my ruptured disc has flared up. Love the weather, hate the shit that comes with it. Especially the dallisgrass. That shit needs nuclear blasting but I have dogs I don’t want to poison.

  • Ady

Okay, I’m on Dilaudid & Phenergan combo pills for my migraine, so I might be asleep. How do I put my name in red like all guys? I want to conform, but I don’t know how. Also if you love and pet the trolls very heavily when they come around, they’ll…well, they might bite a little but will eventually go buh bye.I just want my name in red…that’s all I ask.

You really gotta get the boy to do that DP. I thought that is what people had kids for?! (kidding all you parent’s out there.)Carl and Matt-I am glad it wasn’t something that was just the military. I don’t remember commercials though. I do remember it was 1976 and every book we read we got to put a sticker of the liberty bell on the tally sheet. I don’t know why, but I have always remembered those stickers. Crazy the things you remember from your childhood.

Ady, that’s what your name looks like when you put a website URL in the bottom box as you post. Click mine, and it takes you to my blog; click Vera’s, and it takes you to a pretty picture (I like to look at Vera’s pictures, woot!).

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

thanks Matt- I like to read your blog!

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Sigh. Am I the only one here without a damn Facebook account??

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

    Thanks for reading, Vera!

  • dontpanic23™

Thanks, Matt. I’ve found that some non-death weed killers do a bit of good but this dallisgrass (and the prostrate knotweed from last year) have the constitution of cockroaches. I’ll have to dig the dallisgrass with a shovel when it gets bigger like last year, but the weather has to be rainy enough to germinate grass within days or the seed druplets just start it right back up. Knotweed is the nightmare. The root has to come up and each one goes 3-6 inches deep with a big knot an inch below the soil. Bane of my existence, that shit. I hope I killed myself enough to get it all last fall (except the few seedlings I can spot at 5 feet and I can get easily now except for the back problem). I’ll bookmark your stuff–thank you.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

Yes Matt and get your butt over there and set up an account!!

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

oh and BTW Matt, I did a quiz in your honor today and when I posted that last post I realized I said in my FB post, this one is for you Matt I am so laughing at me right nowthe quiz was what is your ninja name lol

nope that isn’t true, Git doesn’t have one either.

  • Ady

Matt, yes you are…VL-no,I won’t go. Okay, so I went. Is my name in red?

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

me too Carl–thanks! very coolthose are the guys from Hill Street. Loved that show, i wish someone would replay it.

  • dontpanic23™

Matt, you don’t have to use your real name on FB–I didn’t. And you can only tell who you want to, such as only the parts of the group you wanat to follow, meaning no one in your brick and mortar life can find you if you us an email (published there or otherwise) that no one knows. It has to be real but use a gmail and Tell No One.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

no Ady, it isn’t. You will be able to see it in red.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

MattYou can control who sees what on FB. I messed up and went to my high school and got listed there. Which wouldn’t normally be bad, except that most of the friends I went to hs with are now right wing nut jobs. I swear they weren’t like that in school!

  • Teh Minx

Hello All! Silly Git, I am so touched that you would think of me as an angel. I don’t always feel that way. I’m glad that we had an actual meeting IRL–I love putting my memory of you on your notes here. I wish that I had asked Mom to take a picture, though. Oh Well, next time.DP, regarding hielo, I am getting the impression that he is saying that his screen name was hijacked (THAT’S a mouthful!). I always want to see the best in people; and, like our sweet fe, I have been burned by people with less than kind intentions. I like jokes and kidding as much as the next person, but the things that this dude said (hielo or not) were inexcusable. On the other hand, IF hielo’s screen name was hijacked– there’s little that he can do to prove it. That’s sad. I don’t know what I would do if someone was asshole enough to do that to me.Silly Git? Is there any way to keep your screen name from getting hijacked? Is that sockpuppetry?

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

I am still not at the book of faces.I’ve been giving it serious thought and have not made up my mind yet. I have issues with the privacy policy.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

Hi Minx!Git, I voted today on the new policies. Maybe Minx can get you a copy. It is on my wall Minx if you need the link. I don’t know if Git will be able to see it, not sure if you have to be on FB to read it. As I am not sure what part of the policy you don’t like Git, I don’t know if it will allay your qualms.wow I sound like a thesaurus, what is up with that? Oh yeah, I am drinking some Jager, must make you smarter :)

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

Minx -There is nothing that I can think of to protect your nym. Anyone can type anything into the name box. What hielo, and several others have had happen is called masquerading. I had someone make several posts using my nym. It has since happened to others.Sock-puppetry is when one person posts with multiple nyms to appears to be more than one person. Hence one asshat and multiple sock-puppets.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

To prevent masquerading we could go back to typepad. It might be worth it. Typepad has been working well for me at TPC and Wolfe Tone’s blog.

  • http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/greater-flamingo_image.html veralynn

when I first signed up to post here I had to go through typepad. But I lurked for awhile and when I first posted I wasn’t logged in to typepad. I have been confused by that since.

  • hielo

Hey AllIt is quite weird to watch what someone else says IN YOUR NAME.It may very well happen to you. Why would someone be afraid to post in a name that they just invent? I really don’t get it.Has this happened to anyone else? Why can’t a screen name be connected with an IP address?

  • dontpanic23™

    >>there’s little that he can do to prove it.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

Bob no longer requires typepad. It was required when I first started posting here. It had some problems then. Laffy turned it on at TPC recently and I discovered that typepad is working better than it was.

  • hielo

Hey, here’s the deal. I appreciate those of you that understand what happened. But, I am too fucking proud to put up with dicks like “Don’t Panic.” After friday night, i remembered that all I have to do is delete the Cesca blog from my bookmarks and keep on fishing.Adios to all the good people I “sort of” met here. Good bye Minx and fe.

  • hielo

    And Git

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

    Buh-bye, Hielo.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

hielo -I could write blog software to require that comments from a given nym always come from the original IP address. This has multiple problems if one were to do this.People would not be able to post from work or when on vacation, or while visiting family. Also, very few people have internet accounts with fixed IP addresses. That usually costs extra and most cable providers don’t even offer the option since you only need it if you are running a server and most cable providers don’t allow servers in the T&Cs.TypePad was invented to solve the nym ripoff problem. And yes, A troll used my SillyGit nym in one thread one day. He or another troll has masqueraded as several people here. ceu and fe have both been victims. I don’t remember who else but there were others. So you were not the first.

  • dontpanic23™

So I’m the only dick, eh? I went back and found the night you made your assholish debut and believe me, I’m not the only one who was insulted by you. I was even one of the quieter ones. And that was the REAL you.Buh bye.

    Bravo Matt.Another fine one.

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

If Bob doesn’t want to relive the TypePad nightmares, he could use the registration that is native to this site (this site is on “Moveable Type” – don’t know if that’s related to Typepad, but I’ve seen Moveable Type registration over at The Atlantic – it’s pretty nifty).QT

  • dontpanic23™

Thanks, Git (my keyboard macro). Guess we’ll never know for sure even though most of us have an opinion one way or another–and many going each way. I’m ready to wash my hands of the whole thing now.

  • dontpanic23™

QT, I get the feeling Bob isn’t reading the PTT lately or doesn’t have time or whatever to do the Moveable Type thing. Maybe you should write him.

  • Teh Minx

Hielo, am sad to see you go. I am sadder though, when you told DP to STFU in Friday’s PTT. I know that this whole experience would be frustrating & degrading to me, but DP DID set out the olive branch & you slapped DP’s hand. I said it before, and I will say it again: maybe I am a bit naive, but I do assume the best in most people(unless proven otherwise). This stealing of nyms is shitty. If you have something to say, say it; don’t hide behind someone else’s name & think it’s cute.I do like you, Hielo, and wish that none of this had happened.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Hielo isn’t done with us, DP. He’ll be back with another moniker. Know that old one about the frog and the scorpion…?

  • dontpanic23™

Git: Carl’s theory would imply that you are what you eat. That works.

Matt, I guess I’ll be reading the posts of anyone new with a magnified scrutiny from here on out. It has been so fun and relaxing here for so long. That will be sad for me, not trusting newcomers until I’m sure they aren’t you-know-who. Or as sure as I can be.

  • dontpanic23™

And what is the one with the frog and the scorpion? Aesop?

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ Silly Ratfaced Git

MovableType registrations work pretty well. I’d prefer that to typepad.

And thanks, Minxy.I’m getting swimmy from the pain stuff–stronger than my usual stuff. G’night, guys, though I’ll probably keep one eye open for a few in case Mr. Buh-bye was faking the Buh-bye.

Good nite vera.I’ll make no comment about stick candy. And yes, DP, I wish people would be nice. It’s not hard. In fact it takes effort to be a prick.

I’m in favor of anything that requires registration and doesn’t cut out some people whose computers don’t like it.

I was heartened today by a post from Mike the Lurker who was lamenting what is happening to the Republican Party. Mike is a moderate and is not happy that the extremists have hijacked the party. He’s going to have to steal it back. He’s not the only moderate out there that feels that way. I know quite a few.

Another note to all followers/enjoyers of Matt Taibbi– His blog, The Smirking Chimp, is in desperate need of funds to keep going. Any donation amount, $1, $5 or more will be much appreciated– you can go through Paypal or just send it in the mail. I just found out about this at his site. A lot of people are hurting financially, but even a small donation will help from a lot of fans. No, I’m not getting compensation for this–but I know that Matt has admirers here.

I smell a third party for the moderates and sane Republicans or for the wingnuts and insane Palin drama idiots. It won’t help the moderates for a while but it is a start.G’night, guys.

My mistake, The Smirking Chimp isn’t Matt Taibbi’s blog, although it does come up on a Google Search on his name. He may write for them occasionally. The still need help, though, if you can give it.G’Night All. I love you all, drugged or not (especially when you share your drugs with me!).
