Secession

Texas wants out. Fine — just give us Austin and go.

Seriously, are the Republicans so devoid of new ideas that they’re reverting to an idea that once caused the deaths of 600,000 Americans?

give us charleston and they can have south carolina too…

Perry thinks that crap will ride him through the Republican primary. He’s an idiot. If only Perry were in some type of authoritative role where he could recommend lowering taxes.

These teabag fetishist are SO full of TEXAS STEER MANURE!

Bob, Austin is the only part of that state I would save from destruction. The rest of the place can burn, for the hell I care.Know what? They can have out. Federal spending accounts for 33% of their state budget.http://texaspolitics.laits.utexas.edu/9_4_1.htmlHey, I have an idea. Let’s encourage the tinfoil-hat squad to put it up to a vote.

They can have Texas for all I care but they have to take Beck too.

Maybe Rick Perry can hook up with Sarah & Todd on this one….

  • Silly Ratfaced Git

Good Riddance. Give us back the ARRA funds and go. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

I fucking hate Rick Perry and I live in Dallas. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin voted for Obama to win the presidency.I’ve lived in Texas all my life, 43 years may just be enough. It’s too hot here anyway. The pacific northwest is looking pretty damn good to me now.

I’m from Screwston and currently residing in Dallas. Please don’t judge us by Governor Goodhair. If it’s any consolation, which I’m sure it’s not, he only got 39% of the vote last election and he’s going to get creamed in the primaries next year. I love my state but if our government continues a flirtation with treason, which is unlikely seeing as how Democrats are just one seat short of controlling the State House and all the cities of any major size went to Obama, I’ll just have to join you guys on either of the coasts.

“Please don’t judge us by Governor Goodhair.”Yay! A Molly Ivins reference! I always loved the Gov. Goodhair Perry stuff..it was hysterical. I miss her, she would have had fun with this today!

This is the part that troubles me most:”He said when Texas entered the union in 1845 it was with the understanding it could pull out.”Nope. It can become a total of 5 states, not secede. Something the governor of a state should know, maybe. Someone please get that man a copy of Michener’s “Texas,” okay?(And the juvenile part of me thought, ‘heh, pull out’ when I read that. It’s what I get for having to hear ‘teabagging’ all day, I guess.)

Texas was built by disgruntled Southerners that were unhappy with the outcome of the civil war. They are di-hard Confederates-most of them, but there is an element of tough Truth-lovers, the yellow-dog democrats that wouldnt even budge for Bush. Dan Rather and Kinkie Friedman come to mind. Dont forget Ann Richards and our dear Molly Ivens. They are tough people over there (from Arizona perspective) but many of them are crazy. And brain-dead from the Southern Baptist dominance. They can secede, but they gotta take the South with them. Sometimes I think Lincoln made a mistake. Whenever they get into National politics, they screw things up. Except Jimmy Carter.

Oh, and Yeah: Texas voted half Obama and half McCain. So did Arizona. The cities went for O and the rural red-neck, tea-bag, FOX-watchering militants went for McCain. They pass around those rediculous e-mail forwards and ignorantly act all informed.

Hey now, I was born in Austin, grew up in Houston, and spent time in San Antonio before moving to LA, and I can tell you with certainty that the metro areas are mostly devoid of Gov. Goodhair’s bullshit.Danann,Your comments seem full of vitriol, covered in a sweet half coating of vanilla. To be honest, it kind of cancels itself out when you yell as loud as you can “Texas Sucks!” and then follow it with “but I like half the population in it and some really awesome people come from there”.

  • danann

Half my relatives are outside of Dallas-I have mixed feelings. By the way, my relatives, including my mom are right-wing baptists. As a life-long democrat, I have cried bitter tears for the brain-washed. They just think I have been corrupted. sad. How do you just hope people will wake up?

  • McWolcott

BTW, Texas CANNOT secede.Texas vs. White. You would THINK the governor would know this.

  • eve

Perry is an idiot. You would think he would know, as already pointed out, that Texas cannot secede. And wtf is a governor doing promoting treason? There are seriously dangerous wackos that he is encouraging with talk of secession.

  • AC

Vermont trying to secede is no less stupid. It’s the cowardly way. Like walking away from an argument before it’s settled.Plus, it’s a game of “how small can my world be?”First, you’re an American, but only as long as it suits you. Then, you’re an Alaskan or Vermonter or whatever. What next? Counties?

  • midad

AC..love it. I only like people on my street…and of course here :)
