The President of the United States

At the risk offending the cool kids and sounding all gushy and soupy again, here’s a brief incident from the G20 summit that makes me proud of our achievement in electing this president.

With one word and two private informal conversations, President Obama resolved a heated conflict between Hu and Sarkozy — with the apparent ease of someone who’s been operating in this capacity for years.

    Ah, our president…..what a showoff!

Gush away! I honestly think this is one of the best stories to emerge. While Chris Matthews (who I LIKE, btw) was giving Obama the “Hardball” award for firing the GM CEO (but not any of the Wall Street CEOs? How is that Hardball???), I thought our President should get some special award for this effort, which means more to me than playing “hardball.”QT

That is awesome. The President of the United States got two World leaders to meet in the middle and resolve a heated dispute. They were willing to listen to the President and see the bigger picture and reach a compromise.Yesterday, the budget passed the House with not even one Republican voting in favor of it. That whiny, bitchy, uncompromising, childish, selfservative, ideological bunch of babies couldn’t manage to find middle ground in the interest of the common good. These guys think they have 2010 in the bag?Fucktards.

This is a great moment–mostly because it shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be a surprise that our president mediate disputes successfully, but sadly it’s become something new and different. It’s nice to see that Bush didn’t damage our standing irrevocably. Also, it reminds me of how parents settle disputes between their children and I find that delightful.

Bill Hicks:I’ve never known rudeness to have a partisan bias. Thanks for confirming that.QT

This is a “useless blog” you say?You sure managed to find some use for it. Perhaps you should thank Bob for providing a platform from which you can then ridicule him.Say it. Say “thank you”.

Change your name, the real Bill is rolling and deserves to rest in peace.

Obama has escalated The War? When did that happen? Am I missing something?Oh yeah. Afghanistan. Yeah, I’m not happy about it. I believe that whole sorry area of the world should be left to live in the 12th century if that’s what it wants. I don’t believe we should be wasting a fucking dollar there. Their mortgage is not my problem. I do, however, trust Obama on this. The escalation will turn into a draw-down soon enough. Mark. My. Words.

Can’t imagine McCain being able to finesse a situation like that. Once again confirming that America made the right choice in November. And to Bill H. just because we can cheer for a good development doesn’t mean we are blind to the mixed bag that is any politician. If I only voted for folks I knew had beliefs in total lock-step with myself, I’d never vote. And I’d probably have to go live in a cave.

Bill Hicks:If you wanted to make a point about the Afghanistan War, I imagine you would be able to do so entirely without the ad hominem attack on Bob, or this community. When you act like a jerk, don’t expect anyone to treat you like anything but one.You can apologize, and then start over… but until you do, I sincerely hope that all of the Awesomites continue to treat you as you justly deserve – namely, with complete lack of taking anything you say seriously. As for me, I’m not a “liberal” – pseudo or otherwise. I heard the man loud and clear when he said he was going to escalate the war in Afghanistan. I expected it, I voted for him, with the expectation that he would do it, and see no reason whatsoever, why I should all of a sudden today be upset and surprised that he’s fulfilling his campaign promises.QT

Troll wrote:>>>Cesca – it’s well known you are one of the biggest Obamatrons out thereWhich is why I spent the better part of three weeks RIPPING the president over his inclusion of Rick Warren. Which is why I’ve been critical of Tim Geithner ever since his first disastrous appearance. Which is why I’ve criticized the president for his repeated use of “it’s my job to”. Which is why I ripped him for his Special Olympics remark.Re: Afghanistan… He’s merely attempting to repair eight years of damage. What was the lesson of our covert intervention in the Soviet-Afghanistan war? We bugged out without doing the requisite humanitarian things that were necessary to prevent the spread of radical anti-Americanism — anti-Americanism that led to the rise of Bin Laden and al-Qaida.And the president isn’t going to make that same mistake a second time. Besides, because of Bush’s failures, the Taliban and al-Qaida are moving closer and closer to overtaking Pakistan. If that happens, hold onto your trollish ass because a nuclear missile will be launched against a target with western alliances.By the way, I don’t care if you’re a liberal or a hobbit. You’re a troll. Nothing more, nothing less.

Billy H.First,You betta recognize ‘the REAL Bill’!!!!Next,I ain’t no pseudo-liberal. I ain’t even a liberal.Cuz, fucks like you try to taint it…I myself am a PROGRESSIVE. So, how are ya gonna spin that into a negative???Oh yeah, not to worry. Just don’t come back!!!

You’re right, Bill, they do. See over there they have nutcases (oh gosh, there I go with names!) who stick to one talking point over and over again but can never explain it.And then you prance over here like an unwelcome fart at a cocktail party with your deliciously complex and well considered line “Obama is escalating the war in Afghanistan”. You repeat it several times for good measure but do you say anything more? Nope. No facts. No argument. Not even a bloviated defense pulled out of your rear. Just the same, tired line.Other posters take offense, as is to be expected, and still you cling to your line like Linus and his security blanket. I guess to put it in blunt terms, if you can’t back it UP then back the fuck OUT.Have a wonderful day!

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

JJ, the offense is not at his pointless post, but at his offensive attack. No matter how much Bill wants to pretend that his opening post was just about Afghanistan, the words on the page just won’t rearrange themselves to fit this reality. Let’s review, shall we?

If you were to ever meet the guy, you’d probably hump his leg….Welcome to Bob Cesca’s Goddamn Useless Blog!!

Was there any attempt at dialogue even pretended here? If so, I missed it. This was a drive-by insult, and if Bill lacks the social skills to recognize that this is not the proper way to gain discussion on topics of interest, or to engage a debate with people one presupposes one disagrees with, then we shall have to correct him on his manners. Or, wonder why his mother didn’t teach him any.QT

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Bob, is there anyway we can show the troll the door? Attempts at pointing out his lack of manners, and attempts to engage him in conversation despite it being fairly obvious that he’s not actually looking for any, have all failed, and now he’s taking up useful space…QT

I’d be pretty salty if my McCain/Palin sticker wouldn’t come off my pickup truck either.Poor little guy.

Ahhhh there’s the source! Oh Travis, you goof! Playing with the name changes….

This is unbelievable. On CNN’s site an interview with Fareed Zakaria bears the headline :” Zakaria: Obama Disappoints As World Leader “. Obviously, anyone reading the headline and not the interview would assume Zakaria is disappointed with the President’s performance at G 20. However, when you read the interview, this is nowhere suggested. In fact, Zakaria says ” The problems Obama is facing on the world stage have nothing to do with him ” , but rather “…that power is shifting away from American dominance to a post-American world.” What in hell is going on here ?

  • prcleburne

This is most interesting: I revisited CNN’s website several hours after writing the above comment. The heading for the interview now reads : ” Zakaria : Obama critics have it wrong “. I am not going to claim sole responsibility for the change; the error was so glaring that someone at CNN must have noticed. But perhaps the e-mail I sent did bring it to their attention. Maybe we can score one for “the little guy “.

  • SillyRatfacedGit

CNN is a propaganda dispensing machine. It’s the Corporatists News Network. They are almost as bad as Fixed News in their distortion and filtering of facts to suit their master’s agenda.Do not be surprised. This change has slowly happened over the past decade.I do not rely on CNN for accurate information. They are now completely worthless.

You wanna talk Afghanistan, Bill Frist or whatever your name is? Bring it on!First a history lesson:The Mujaheddin groups that Reagan armed, trained, and funded to fight the Soviets were the most reactionary conservative Islamist elements in that country, and they attracted similar-thinking scum from the entire Muslim world. These groups eventually reorganized into the Afghan Taliban and the Arab extremist al Qaeda. The Taliban instituted the most backward oppressive regime in the world: no education for women and girls, no music, no friggin’ KITES. Al Qaeda embarked on a world-wide anti-Western campaign, bombing US embassies in Africa, the USS Cole, etc. They benefited from the Taliban government’s protection in Afghanistan.September 11: All the evidence points to al Qaeda, headquartered in Afghanistan. Dubya actually does a few things right – he pressures Pakistan (the only government in the world that recognized the Taliban), he drops food, he makes alliances with local anti-Taliban forces (notably the Northern Alliance), and he removes the Taliban from power. The war in Afghanistan is not a war of choice like Iraq. The perpetrators of September 11 were holed up there. Dubya was right to go in there and root them out. But of course, he seriously botched the job.Instead of a Marshall Plan to rebuild Afghanistan, Dubya decided to fulfill the PNAC wet dream in Iraq, diverting much-needed men and materiel to steal those rich oil fields. As we all know, he ended up botching that war too.Can you imagine what Afghanistan would be like today if Dubya didn’t pour trillions of dollars in a sand-pit in Iraq? Or needlessly sacrifice the lives of over 4000 US troops? Or unleash a civil war that killed hundreds of thousands and created millions of refugees? If a fraction of the resources that were wasted in Iraq had been used to pacify and re-build Afghanistan, we wouldn’t be stuck there after seven and a half years. The only reason to oppose the troop build-up in Afghanistan is if you’re a “truther” who thinks that al Qaeda and the Taliban had nothing to do with 9/11, or if you’re a hippy-dippy peace-at-all-costs pacifist who thinks that the United States should have turned the other cheek after 9/11, even though it was a monstrous crime and an act of war.Which are you? You’re pretty quick with the insults, but you won’t tell us why finishing the job we ought to have finished in 2002-03 is a bad idea. Are you a truther or an extreme pacifist?
