Weird Commercial Placement

I just saw the following very creepy and very dishonest commercial on MSNBC:

It was aired during the Rachel Maddow Show.

Beyond the weird placement, it never ceases to amaze me how a hateful, bigoted majority can behave as if they’re the victimized minority.

that just shows how fucking stupid they really are?! spending money to show that shit to rachel viewers?! wtf?! it’s like waving a piece of rotten lettuce in front of a tubby eating twinkies while giving him 100 dollars!i guess we see what they are choosing to rebuild their party on. the same old shit! this will be fun!

  • kansasdem

    Crock-o-shit!

  • GItheJOE

Someone is going to have to answer the question, “HOW THE FUCK IS YOUR MARRIAGE GOING TO CHANGE!?!”I am not an expert but aren’t there already 18000 gay marriages in California? Did the married folk of this country start developing the need to lick their own vagina or fuck themselves in the ass? SERIOUSLY, WTF?

  • GItheJOE

LGBT community,This was not an attack on you but the morons that buy into this shit.

  • GeorgeJungle

GItheJoe-There are no gay (legal) marriages in CA at all. Gay marriage is only legal in four states, California is not one of them.

  • Sounder35

Yes, this ad is dishonest and even creepy. But it is well done, and I would guess effective with the right audience. Why couldn’t we have had this quality of commercials when we were fighting Prop 8 in California instead of the crap that all of our money was spent on?

  • Lexaburn

Was that a late April Fool’s Day gag? That was seriously the stupidest fucking ad I’ve ever seen.

  • Alex

Uhhhhh Georgie, gay marriage was in fact legal in CA and did actually have gay marriages during that time. Those marriages don’t just cancel out because of Prop 8.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Doubling-down on Teh Wacky™. That’s what this is. The wingnuts have lost, are losing, and will continue to lose, so they’ve adapted by cloaking themselves in the language of the left — “rights,” “rainbow coalition,” etc — to reframe the issue. But it won’t work. They still don’t understand how screwed they really are.My guess is, if you follow up the ad credits you’ll discover it’s the same old wingnuts with a new PAC.

  • IC

Ken Starr is trying to get the existing marriages canceled out or invalidated because of Prop. 8. Or rather “denied recognition.” Or something like that.Ken Starr on invalidating existing same-sex marriagesWhat a bunch of double-talking, fork-tongued BS.I got the Gathering Storm video in an e-mail from Courage Campaign just about an hour before Bob posted it. “Creepy” is an understatement. Almost creepier is going to nationformarriage.org and checking out some of their “tactics.”Marriage Talking PointsI wonder if all of those actors are really totally in that camp or some are just mouthing the words in order to get paid? I also wonder how those who really don’t totally believe all that crap can easily live with themselves after being in that raging homophobic propaganda.

  • Shelley Bee

Ha! A “rainbow” of ethnicities and religions against gay marriage! How, exactly, does someone else’s marriage effect their own? And Matt, you are right about the “language of the left.” Not paying close attention, at first I thought “Yeah, how dare they deny same-sex couples the right to marry” before realizing they were advocating the opposite. And why would a doctor have to choose between her faith and her job re: gay marriage? She wants to refuse treatment to someone who is gay-married? Why can’t they be like BSG’s Doc Cottle and stay out this good-guy/bad-guy crap, and just frakkin’ treat people already? Jesus. Eff you, actors.

I can’t wait til gay marriage is legal in New York so I can divorce my wife and start sucking The Cock™.Do they realize that Rachel Maddow is… um… gay? And that anyone watching her show is probably going to A) get really pissed off that their bigoted stance or B) laugh their motherfuckin’ ass off at the horrible writing and acting in that commercial?National Douchebags for Marriage.

  • GeorgeJungle

Alex & GII apologize. I was mistaken on that point. Domestic Partner Registration now, and the 18,000 still stand as valid.

  • Eric

Here’s the response to it (with video):”Audition tapes found of phony “testimonial” ad created by anti-gay groupsby John Aravosis (DC) on 4/08/2009 06:58:00 PMThey’re running ads telling the stories of “real” people who have been “hurt” by gay marriage. Too bad someone found the audition tapes for the ads – you’ll get to see lots of real actors telling the same “personal” story over and over and over. These people are pathetic. If there are so many “real” people hurt by our civil rights, then why do they have to hire actors at all? Because it’s all a big lie, brought to your during Holy Week, of all things. Amazing.”http://www.americablog.com/2009/04/audition-tapes-found-of-phony.html

    Good find, Eric!

  • SillyRatfacedGit

YouTube presents (provided your YouTubes are not clogged by your insect leaders): See the actors behind the new religious right anti-gay lie (H/T Michael and GottaLaff)IC -Remember that legal principal the wrong wing claimed prevented changing tax rates to recover the bonus paid to AIG people? Well, that applies here. You can’t pass a law today and then arrest people for breaking that law last year. The ~18,000 same sex marriages in CA will remain marriages. They were legal marriages when they were entered into and they remain legal marriages today (because they were legal when entered into). Ken Starr is a fool if he thinks he can convince Judges to nullify those marriages. It will not happen. Not in his wildest dreams.I doubt that proposition 8 will stand. It is effectively a Constitutional Ammendment, and it did not follow the Constitutionally required process for an Amendment. You can’t Amend the Constitution with a proposition. Without a properly processed Amendment, prop 8 is unconstitutional because it violates the equal protection clause. The CA supreme court has already ruled on that once and they were correct then.I expect Prop 8 to get shitcanned by the courts as an improperly processed and therefore unconstitutional Amendment.&lt:joke>Those Goddamned activist Judges are always insisting on following the law instead of the Bible. They will burn in hell for that.</joke>Those Judges shall be blessed by the FSM and the IPU. Just say AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH to help fight global warming.

My daughter is 5’3″, 120 lbs dripping wet, 17 years old, gay…and attends school in a conservative christian school district. I fear for her every single day when I drop her off. She is my baby and these people want to do her harm….tell me where god is in all of this……please. The other day she came home and told me that because she is who she is….she will spend eternity in the 7th layer of hell. this came from the “christians” in her school.Jesus is weeping.

It’s the SillyGit Christian AntiGay Jihadese (CAGJ) to English Translation Service™CAGJ: I’m a California Doctor who must choose between my faith and my job.English: I’m a California Doctor that suffers under the delusion that my faith may override my Hippocratic Oath. (I hope they divulged this wingnut idea to their malpractice insurance provider. And don’t get too attached to that medical license, you aren’t going to have it long.)CAGJ: I’m a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK.This is wrong on so many levels that multiple translations exist. First off, if schools teach anything about marriage, I’m not convinced that they do, if they even mention gay marriage it will be that gay marriage is lawful. OK is a judgement call and is opinion based not fact based.English: I’m a MA parent that can’t decide which school to send my son to so I send him to a different one every day and all they ever teach is stuff about gay marriage. (Must live in Northampton.)English: I’m a MA parent that is deathly frightened that his public school will teach my son that teh gay is not bad. If he believes them over me he might realize that I am a bigoted homophobe that uses Christ as an excuse for my bigotry. (Someone show me in the Bible where Christ ever said that teh gay is bad.)I’ve never met anyone in MA that gave a shit about teh gay. There must be some, but I saw lots of openly gay people all over MA and I never saw anyone acting uncomfortable. NO ONE IN MA GIVES A SHIT ABOUT TEH GAY. I don’t think people that could say anything as stupid as this scripted nonsense would be allowed to live in MA. Please move to Utah, you are too stupid for New England.(Travellers Tip: When visiting lovely Massachusetts, if you are allergic to teh gay, the places to avoid are Provincetown, Northampton, and various places in the Berkshires. But be warned, teh gay is everywhere in New England and it doesn’t hide because no one gives a shit.)This Propaganda is probably coming from the asshats in Utah again.CAGJ: The storm is coming. But we have hope.English: Teh Stupid has arrived. And it is hopeless.

chauncey: I’ve been there. Promise her it’ll get better and, when she’s older, to move to New York or San Francisco, or at least a bigger city. She’ll be surrounded with people who understand and support her.and, with regards to the ‘what the fuck would a doctor have to do with gay marriage’ question…there was a law upheld by the Supreme Court a while ago that said discrimination based on orientation is illegal. Thus, this possibly-fictitious doctor is no longer able to deny a gay man access his dying partner, or refuse to offer an emergency c-section for a lesbian in trouble during childbirth, or allow a gay man to decide to pull the plug on his comatose partner, etc, etc.By the way, none of these rights come with domestic partnerships and civil unions. Which is why gay marriage needs to be legal.

  • SillyRatfacedGit

chauncey1186 -I feel your pain. Those “Christians” are “Christofascists”. They have perverted Christ’s teachings into a justification for hate. Christ taught love, not hate. Christ taught forgiveness, not jugement, jugement is for God, not for Christians. My oldest daughter is bisexual. She was exclusively gay for a time. She has been in a stable heterosexual relationship for over 3 years now. This is how I know that no one gives a shit in New England. She never had problems in school because she was dating girls. It was not always this way, things change slowly.

Sorry, Jesus, and so close to Easter too, but these Christopaths piss me the fuck off.

  • Tusz

Not only does nobody in MA give a shit, nobody in my generation gives a shit either. A couple years ago when I was in high school (in a well-to-do “we can’t teach them condoms” high school), there were a sizable number of homosexuals/bisexuals, and nobody ever gave them crap for it.As a side note, that entire talking points page revolved around “we’re totally not bigots, we just think all kids should have a mother and father, even if the marriage doesn’t involve kids.” Why do they hate single parents?

  • 24hourjack

there was a guy(i cant remember his name) on hardball last night debating the woman behind this ad.he made the point perfectly, saying that since its no longer acceptable to simply say that gay people shouldnt have the same rights as everyone else, gay marriage opponents now have to resort to the typical wingnut strategy of fear, blatant mistruths(AKA lying),and more fear.the idea that teaching children that gay people marrying is awful and unfair since it may conflict with the views of the parents.but if these people actually DO believe in equal rights then it would be just as unfair to teach kids that it isnt okay, right?and what the fuck is wrong with msnbc?airing this ad during rachels show?y’think you’ll ever catch an ad for planned parenthood during oreilly’s show?maybe its not a fair analogy since you’ll never catch ANY reasonable politically based ad anywhere on fox.but still…

I didn’t see the commercial. Yeah, it’s strange that the Rachel Maddow show would be the place they would sell it to. But even stranger is that the Rachel Maddow show would be the place to BUY it.

Could this be MORE egregious? It’s fucking surreal.

It’s up to us to insistently restate and defend the true Christian principles – Jesus’ principles – of justice, humility, grace, and compassion. It’s up to us to walk with the poor, the sinners, and the undesirables. It’s up to us to finger those on the righteously religious right as hypocrites for abusing the name of Jesus to promote their personal bigotries, hatreds, and revelational fantasies
