Begala Can Write Healthcare Memos, Too

Paul Begala has composed a healthcare memo of his own in retaliation to Frank Luntz’s latest attempt at Republican marketing gimmickery.

This is absolutely going to be one of the most important political/policy fights of the president’s first term and we have to be ready for it. Luntz and Gingrich and the others won the day last time using the very same hackery Luntz is recycling this time. But judging by Begala’s memo, we’re ready for them.

Gentlemen, start your engines.Or in the words of a well-known wrong-wing doofus: “Bring it on.”

    Highlight (for me):

You must not let Republicans succeed in defining the crisis downward. Having to sit in the waiting room is a nuisance. Not being able to afford to go to the doctor’s office at all is a crisis. That is the actual crisis we’re addressing with the President’s proposal for quality, affordable health care for all.

I’m reading through and love it, but my biggest complaint about our leadership in Congress is their complete inability to make a convincing argument for doing just about anything, especially when confronted with a full-on bullshit assault from the Republicans. This is going to require some heavy lifting from surrogates outside of Congress and all of us to keep the pressure on the Congress to make sure they stay on track.

“suggests pointing out that insurance company bureaucrats are at least as bad as government bureaucrats”Whoa…who’s side is this guy on? The Republicans or the Democrats? That has got to be one of the doof quotes of the day in my book.

if you focus on reforming our food system you can address health care, climate change and energy in one fell swoop.

    a) Paul Begala rocks. b) How sad is it that Democrats and Republicans need people like Paul Begala and Frank Luntz to spell out these common sense arguments?
