Challenger Now

Senator Specter is seriously asking for the Democrats to put up an unstoppable primary challenger. Specter today:

“There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner.”

I think the senator has totally lost his shpadoinkle. There’s a still a long way to go before the Pennsylvania primary. More than enough time for a strong challenger (Sestak) to build support and for Rendell and President Obama to back away from Specter.

At least Specter didn’t endorse Lizard People.

That’s it. Sestak should run in a primary. I don’t care what promises were made to Specter. Specter shows us on a daily basis why he should no longer be a PA Senator. I can’t believe he said that. What is he thinking? His shpadoinkle has left the building.

Why, again, did Specter become a Democrat? Just for the support in the primary? And what exactly are the Dems getting in return for letting him keep his seniority and not forcing him to become independent?

That’s it for Arlan. He’s way too feeble and two-faced. I agree with 1st post, let’s primary him out.It would have gone done better if he’d just admitted he wasn’t running for re-election; he’s a pariah in both parties now. Screw him.

In all seriousness, isn’t it possible he just misspoke here? He is a very old man. Taken at face value it doesn’t even make sense. Even the hard right is suggesting that Coleman keep appealing not that he just be seated as if he won.

Did any Democrat, like, talk to Specter before he changed parties?

  • Zanath

A couple of things:1). In all seriousness, I really think Arlen is losing it. And I don’t mean this as an insult. He’s 79, he’s had brain cancer (I believe). The way he’s been acting has been very strange.2). It doesn’t matter who Obama supports. Even Specter said that he was not promised a clear primary field. Just because Specter has Obama’s full support doesn’t mean he’s going to campaign real hard for him.

Actually, it’s looking like that was a Halperin hack job of taking that quote out of context!Like the question was something about his being the last Jewish Republican Senator????????It’ll be good to see it in it’s entirety!

Michael -It’s worse than that. He said this in response to a question that was asked him. The question was (paraphrased) Are you alarmed that their are no more republican jews in the senate?Cole lost the recount and every appeal he has tried. In fact after each appeal that Coleman has tried Franken’s lead gets larger. In Coleman’s appeal he demanded that rejected votes be counted that were rejected because his legal team demanded that they be rejected. Most of the appeals involved them completely disagreeing with their previous positions. I’ve never seen appeals based on changing your own legal position after your first position caused you to lose. They have been allowed to try every position possible and keep losing anyway. The legal process is being jerked around by a bunch of disingenuous weasels that work for Coleman. Franken should have been seated in the senate two months ago.The fact that Specter seems to approve of the flakey tactics of Coleman’s legal team indicates to me that he has lost his mind and can’t be trusted anymore. Time to replace him before he does harm.

I think Zanath is right. And I think we need nothing less than a Constitutional Amendment whereby people who are slipping into senility, but whose constitutents are too stupid to vote out, can be removed via some other means.Examples include, but are not limited to, Ted “series of tubes” Stevens, Strom “jungle fever” Thurmond, and Robert “BARBARIC!” Byrd.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V95eGgZbrU

kansasdem, is exactly right. That was the question to which he was responding. I know this is out there, but is it possible he was being sarcastic? I’m just sayin’……………..

In the initial giddiness of having a Repube senator defect, the Dems, including our president, didn’t spend a lot of thought regarding just exactly who they were getting. They got themselves a DINO, and a contrary curmudgeon to boot. I hate to say this, but if Tom Ridge ends up the Republican candidate, he would be no worse than Specter.

HuffPo is covering the ‘was it a joke?’ angle and it certainly seems possible – Specter does have a wicked dry sense of humor…

  • SharksBreath

Anyone have a poll showing Sestak vs The Magic Bullet Theory.

  • crazyideaoftheday

(Crazy Idea For The Day)Specter changes parties but continues voting and thinking like a republican, he makes far right appeasing statements in the process (i.e. this Coleman thing), gets back into the good graces of the republicans, and then once the poll numbers are better, says “the dems are mean and hypocritical and didnt want me to vote my mind, so I’m going to go to the party with the best ideas on how to make this country great”, and changes back to an “R”. He humiliates and sabotages the dems, and gets re-elected by the Rs.(/Crazy idea of the day)

I think what he was trying to do was to tell a joke that would appeal to his new democratic constituency; ie Bush v Gore. Unfortunately for him it didn’t fly well because, well… we just don’t trust him yet.
