Crazy Quote of the Day

“There are 245 hard-core terrorists that would be turned loose in the United States and one of the locations where they would be putting them is Fort Sill… You turn these people loose and they become magnets for terrorism all over the country.” —Senator Inhofe

turned loose? What, are they going to drop them off on I-95 with $10 and a bottle of water??The worst thing about these statements is 1) wingnuts believe this shit 2) the media continues to let them SAY this stuff and not call them on such horseshit.Maybe if the dems would get a spine or grow some and stand up and fight…………oh wait, I forgot WE’RE IN THE MAJORITY!!!!!!!!!Hell.

Senator Inhofe, thanks for the warning. I did not realize that Fort Sill was run by incompetent pussies. Perhaps we should fix that. Maybe we should send you there so you can tell them in person how pathetic and miserable they are.Senator Inhofe, you are a despicable piece of garbage.

  • The Dogfather

“Magnets for terrorism”, eh? Isn’t that a GOOD thing? I mean, won’t it be easier to round up all the turrurists if they’re all clumped together in Fort Sill?

  • jmrunning3

Yep! That’s my senator! The incomparable Senator Jim Inhofe. Global Warming no-wayer. Oil Industry fellator. Gun snuggler. Insurance industry lover. He is an ass and is dearly loved here, along with Coburn.”Turned loose in Ft. Sill.”Wot a maroon!

From my home state… Kit Bond and Roy Blunt.. both yelling about the closing of GitMo.. both yelling about the terrorists being “let loose” and Bond even did the reply to the President this weekend…Here is a post from ShowMe Progress that hits them on it they never protested this.. when we had an actual detainee in our state…lol

I’m still waiting for someone to explain something to me. Let’s say the worst happens and a terrorist (or several) get loose on American soil. Exactly what is it they’re going to do?Is their charisma so powerful that they’ll instantly draw an army of recruits to help bomb or disrupt something? Can they pull on a rubber mask that makes them look like everyone else and just wander into a gun shop? Can they summon a load of cash out of thin air? Will they raise a finger and fire laser beams or mind bullets and have us running for our lives? What the hell, are they evil super-powered mutants from the Marvel Universe ready to take over the world at a moment’s notice, starting with the Taco Bell just outside of Ft. Sill?I guess they have one super-power: terrorism. They make you afraid, and fear makes you panicky. There’s an easy way to defuse that power. Don’t be afraid.Come to think of it, maybe Inhofe is a terrorist, too. He’s attempting to spread fear.Lock him up!

There is a grain of truth to be considered in the arguments for and against. Please consider this:”WASHINGTON – The Obama administration will not release terrorists from Guantanamo Bay into neighborhoods in the United States, Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress on Thursday as he sought to reassure worried lawmakers.”We don’t have any plans to release terrorists,” HBut he also said some of the detainees at the facility will be let go, indicating the administration believes some held there are not terrorists. Asked after the hearing if he believes some current Guantanamo detainees are innocent, Holder did not answer.”Read carefully Holder’s statment. This is the crux of the matter. If they do not consider them “terrorists”, but instead call them detainees, then they can be let go. So when Holder says they have no plans to release “terrorists”, by his definition that is correct. Keep reading, to see this point illustrated again, from the same article-”Republicans critical of Obama’s plan claim Guantanamo detainees cannot legally be brought to the United States because federal law bars entry to anyone who has received terrorist training.”"Sen. Richard Shelby, a Republican, pressed Holder to say whether he believed he had the authority to release someone with terrorist training into the United States. The attorney general did not directly answer Shelby’s question, but said the government doesn’t have any plans to release terrorists.”Again the distinction between terrorist and detainee applies. He then continues with-”There are currently 241 people held at the detention center at the U.S. military base in Cuba. Holder said some will be released, some will be put on trial, and some “are going to be detained on a fairly extended basis.”So, by Holders words, some are going to be released.

Yeah.. some of them were picked up at the age of 12 and 13 years old.. so they could be tortured and used to make their fathers talk. Then they were sodomized, raped, forced to watch their sisters raped, mothers raped, tortured some more and then taken from Abu Ghraib to GitMo away from their homes and left to rot in the nice vacation spot Dick Cheney says anyone should be proud to be in.So, yeah.. lets not let these people who are not terrorists loose, lets keep these so called detainees locked up there forever.

  • J

But…the only reason not to release them if they aren’t terrorists, regardless if they’ve received “terrorist training” (what the fuck is that?) is if somehow we think that they are NOW dangerous, when they weren’t when they were picked up. Which means GitMo made them dangerous. Which means GitMo creates terrorists. Which means GitMo IS a terrorist training camp and should be closed.Unless you believe that everyone in GitMo was totally a terrorist when they were picked up. A belief that I’m fairly sure has been strongly disproven and someone with more energy for Goggling than me could easily find those stories.

CH -Should we waterboard them over and over until they all become terrorists so that we can keep them all locked up without due process forever? Is that what you want? You are aware that BushCo released over 100 Gitmo Detainees last year aren’t you? Where was all of this fabricated faux concern then? When did we start detaining people with absolutely no evidence that they did nothing wrong for periods of years without giving them any access to an attorney or a court? You do realize that the people that did this are exactly like the worst evil this country has ever fought in a war.You need to consider what you are saying and then explain to me why I should not consider you a dangerous fascist with total disregard for law.

  • chauncey1186

@CHI see your point but what you may be failing to see is that for the majority of “detainees” there has been no due process, no trial, no evidentiary hearings to determine if some of these folks are indeed terrorists or merely unfortunates who were caught up in the post Irag invasion hysteria. Most of these people have been held for years without any sort of legal proceedings at all! There IS a distinction between terrorist and detainee, just as there is a distinction between accused and convicted. Let’s allow the AG to finally do what should have been done from day one…allow the legal process to begin so those who are guilty can be humanely incarcerated and those who are innocent can return to their families.Closing Gitmo is a first step in the right direction.

Who exactly is going to turn them loose? What a fucking idiot. You know thousands of REAL criminals are walking the streets among us every fucking day. They usualy wear suits and ties though so I guess that makes them less dangerous.

  • CH

Chauncey1186-”There IS a distinction between terrorist and detainee, just as there is a distinction between accused and convicted”I agree with the second part, but the first part is indeed my point. The difference between accused and convicted is straightforward, we know exactly what those two things are. The difference between terrorist and detainee, may be in a large part subject to interpretation. What critiera is used to mark the difference between the two, and who decides? So when Holder says he won’t release “terrorists” that answer doesn’t 100% answer the concerns of people who are concerned about these people’s release. Please bear in mind a said a “grain of truth”, I did not say this was the entire truth.

  • ch

Silly Rat Faced Git-Your question was “When did we start detaining people with absolutely no evidence that they did nothing wrong for periods of years without giving them any access to an attorney or a court?”I believe this explains it:” As Chief Executive of the Nation and the “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States,” U S. Const., Art. II, section 2. the President has full authority to direct the armed forces to seize enemy forces in an armed conflict and detain them until the end of any armed conflict”So you asked-”You need to consider what you are saying and then explain to me why I should not consider you a dangerous fascist with total disregard for law.”So since it is well within the powers of the President, as Commander in Chief to do this then there was no disregard for the law, and therefore no dangerous fascist here.

  • AMERICANADIAN

” As Chief Executive of the Nation and the “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States,” U S. Const., Art. II, section 2. the President has full authority to direct the armed forces to seize enemy forces in an armed conflict and detain them until the end of any armed conflict”"So since it is well within the powers of the President, as Commander in Chief to do this then there was no disregard for the law, and therefore no dangerous fascist here.”And the proof that these people are enemy combatants? Most are civilians. Really stretching it there.

  • Ch

Americanadian-”Most are civilians. Really stretching it there.”Is a terrorist a formal member of a government run military? No? Well then, I guess that would mean they are what? If there are not military they are________? Hint. Rhymes with givilians.
