Elizabeth Warren on Maher

I was extraordinarily impressed with Elizabeth Warren, chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel. I think Maher was, too.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they were on the couch being good little consumers until a black guy took office.

I agree. She was also wonderful on Jon Stewart last month if you want to check that out.

Elizabeth Warren has been on the Rachel Maddow Show several times and on Countdown at least once. She has always been impressive. She had a very long interview with Rachel and Rachel asked rather tough questions which Warren anwered directly without the slightest evasion. This woman takes her job very, very seriously and I doubt anyone better qualified could be found to take her place. I am very comfortable that she is in that position.

Was it just me, or did Maher come off a little condescending at the very beginning of the interview? Sort of a “gotcha” feeling I got watching it, then backed off when he realized Warren knew what she was talking about.Maybe he really didn’t know was TARP stood for or was just clarifying for the audience, but the tone of it seemed weird.

I think Maher started out looking for the comedy punch – always an easy out when dealing with politicos.Maher’s quick on the uptake. Realized he had a smart, sincere guest who wasn’t looking to score points but rather elucidate ideas. This clip should take wide play and this woman should be given more authority.

    I agree with cousinavi’s assesment.

Bill Clinton was Reagan on steroids. But I don’t like these “it all began when” Hartmann-like statements. It’s not nearly that simple. As I’ve stated on my blog, there were severe economic problems here as early as the late ’60s.It’s not like: ’40s- economic paradise… until..’80s- everything went to shitI think that this country was actually destined to stagnate after WW2. It’s the nature of life.

Every time I see this woman on a show I’m always left thinking, Why the hell is no one listening to her?

We need more Elizabeth Warrens. Many, many more. She is a model public servant.

Elizabeth Warren is a rare gem. She was on Doucheborough one day and impressed the hell out of everybody including Joe Douche himself. I always look for her any time I can see her.She should be Treasury Secretary instead of the insider weasel we have now.

She made the whole case for re-regulation even clearer than she did in her Daily Show appearance. She detailed the boom/bust cycle in our economy since 1792, the first credit freeze. Warren explained how in the 1930′s rules were put in place that gave US a 50 year span of prosperity free of these severe business cycles. Then starting in 1979 when usury laws were overturned, the great “unraveleing” of 30s regulation began. the savings and loan crisis and economic turmoil resulted from Reagan era deregulation. In the 90s Glass Steagal, the law that kept banks from engaging in risky trading schemes, like derivative trading fell. Finally in 2007 the short selling uptick rule was canceled. This enabled the inevitable crash as worthless “credit default swaps” ( basically insurance backed by no real assets that “guaranteed” the value of bundled mortgage backed securities) rendered banks insolvent.Hedge funds then piled on the bank and insurance stocks as they fell, ever faster and further, with no uptick rule to prevent the monkey pile. Just as they did in the great depression era. Hedge fund scammer Joe Kennedy was appointed first head of the SEC to stop the slide. He knew how the scamming worked and how to stop it.Warren is the only one to trust with re-regulation, she should be put in charge of the effort ASAP!
