Khalid and The Nexus

Sam Stein reports:

Some of the first questions asked of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed upon his capture and during the time during which he was waterboarded were about possible connections between al Qaeda and Iraq, according to a review of several reports on U.S. intelligence operations.

But let’s spend some more cable news airtime talking about whatever Nancy Pelosi knew because she’s all kinds of guilty of, you know, NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS.

    Misdirection

  • http://broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Really? You’d think they would ask about a ticking time bomb. You know, some “imminent threat.”

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

They wont let go of that for a couple weeks. She’s given them all something to rally around, a bad guy to defend the honorable government servicemen against(that they also shit all over with there “government is the problem” manifesto), that are just trying to protect us from terror in spite of all the Democrat Party is doing to weaken us.Here’s the question I have for Speaker Pelosi:CAN WE HAVE A FUCKING INVESTIGATION NOW?!?!? WHAT ELSE IS LEFT? DOES DICK CHENEY HAVE TO EAT A PUPPY ON TV FOR YOU TO GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO AFTER HIM? WHAT? IS THIS NOT ENOUGH?[/optimism]

  • Norma

I pretty much agree with all you have said Bob, but when is someone going to get down to the nitty gritty. Why were Bush and Cheny so bent on making this war? Was it that Bush still has daddy issues and wanted to prove he had bigger balls than his father….by taking out Saddam or was it Cheney wanting to make all of his buddies at Haliburton rich? Or maybe a little of both….hummmmmmmm

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Norma – It was 100% about money. Thats it. Its all about the green. Haliburton is only part of it. It was about a wholesale corporate takeover of Iraq.

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Adding.. a wholesale corporate takeover of Iraq, funded by the american taxpayer.

  • http://snarla.wordpress.com Snarla

Naturally the one single individual most responsible for American torture of detainees is the woman who was not consulted about it, but it informed of it as a fait accompli.Up against the wall, Pelosi! Dick Cheney wags his mighty head in sad disappointment at your bad behavior.

  • alopecia

J M Ashby: I don’t disagree, but I do think you’re oversimplifying a bit. Sure, Cheney (among others) was more than happy, even eager, to give corporate America skiploads of taxpayers’ cash, but that wasn’t all that was going on.Norma is right that Junior wanted to show Poppy that he was a Real Man by taking out Saddam. In fact, I doubt his motivation went much beyond that. Quelle surprise. (To be clear: the oil companies were drooling over Iraq’s reserves, of course, and Junior was sympathetic, but I don’t think the man was sociopathic enough to start a war on their behalf.)Let’s not forget the ghouls at PNAC. They desperately wanted a Petri dish so they could test their (insane) notions about the Middle East. Saddam was an unpleasant character and had a history with the Bush family, to put it mildly, so that’s where the bulls-eye was painted.Lots of players, lots of motives. Occam’s Razor doesn’t work well in situations like that.

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Alopecia – Nah im not oversimplifying it. You’re right, but the main focus of the whole thing was money.Bush may have wanted to get back at Saddam, which made him a useful idiot to be puppeted by the ghouls of PNAC.The ultimate goal though was money and power.

  • alopecia

J M Ashby: Again, I don’t disagree. If it came down to choosing the one overarching reason for the invasion of Iraq, I might very well choose “money and power.”But everyone pushing for it had other reasons, as well. That’s all I’m saying.

  • alopecia

Sorry for the double post. My touchpad’s a little, well, touchy sometimes.

Let’s ponder these statements:”There’s no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat… Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He’s had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001… He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn’t have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we.” — Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002″What is at stake is how to answer the potential threat Iraq represents with the risk of proliferation of WMD. Baghdad’s regime did use such weapons in the past. Today, a number of evidences may lead to think that, over the past four years, in the absence of international inspectors, this country has continued armament programs.” — Jacques Chirac, October 16, 2002″The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow.” — Bill Clinton in 1998″In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security.” — Hillary Clinton, October 10, 2002″I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons…I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out.” — Clinton’s Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003

  • ceu

And yet, NONE of those people invaded & occupied Iraq. And NONE of them ridiculed & ostracized Hans Blix & Scott Ritter. NONE of them went before the UN and lied to justify a war. And NONE of them tortured prisoners to obtain false information.Basically – so what?

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

John – Are you aware that WE (The United States) sold chemical weapons to Saddam in the 80s to use again Iran?

  • John

Yes, perhaps they left it up to someone else. Then maybe you’d let their speculations come true.

  • John

Yes Ashby I’ve heard about that, from several sources, perhaps close to 40 times.

  • John

Ashby, who controlled Congress in the 80′s?They give approval for things things.Check it out when you get a chance.

  • John

Bizarre.I know I typed:”They give approval for these things.”

  • ceu

Yes Ashby I’ve heard about that, from several sources, perhaps close to 40 times.John, don’t rely on what others have told you. Find out for yourself. Read the Riegle Report, put out in 1994, especially the part titled U.S. Chemical and Biological Warfare-Related Dual Use Exports to Iraq (Riegle was chairman of the Senate of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs with Respect to Export Administration)I had saved a list of the chemical & biological agents we exported to Iraq, before and AFTER the attacks on the Kurds which killed over 5,000 people….it’s pretty freaking scary. However, that computer died & my link & list were lost. However, there are many recaps of it online, including this one which includes this:

A 1994 US Senate report revealed that US companies were licenced by the commerce department to export a “witch’s brew” of biological and chemical materials, including bacillus anthracis (which causes anthrax) and clostridium botulinum (the source of botulism). The American Type Culture Collection made 70 shipments of the anthrax bug and other pathogenic agents.

  • ceu

and no, “they” didn’t give approval to these things – the exports were done via private (meaning non-government) firms, licensed by the gov’t.here’s a better link which lists not only the “products” but the firms involved.

  • john

    Well there’s a trusted source. progressive.com?Please. Bent.

  • ceu

Then read the Riegel Report. What Blum said – as published by The Progressive – is what the report said. Blum’s is easier to read, but hey – you don’t want to trust a 100 year old publication, then go to the damn source.Or be lazy and continue to parrot bullshit.whatever.

  • Alex

Oh we’ve already reached that point with arguing with an idiot where they simply discount any source you give them….

  • ceu

yeah. sorry, Alex et al. I’m done.I was in the mood earlier, but even I eventually learn not to piss into the wind

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

    Great work Ceu.Fuck off, John.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

John has proven himself to be a loyal plastic automaton of the ruling authoritarian junta. His ideas are provided. Thinking for oneself is not allowed. Only sources approved by the leader may be read. No reading any of the socialist euorpean newspapers. In other words, another idiot fascist. He’s a lost cause since he forgot how to think for himself, if he ever knew.

  • John

such pleasant hate speech, provided by non other than Lurkers of the BCGA, ? Silly Ratfaced Git ? and his gerbils.

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

Git I think we’ve seen John under a few different names. Always different names, same coward. We can add John to the list of douchebags we ignore.

  • brutlyhonest

Wow, I’m surprised you took the troll bait all day.

Of course it was about money and proving their democracy in the middle east domino theory, but never forget that these are the same people who helped uncle saddam stay in power. He was a good dictator then, of course. Had he only kicked Iran’s ass like he was paid to do, the sob would probably still be alive.
