Krikorian Digs Deeper

Remember the NRO wingnut who wrote yesterday about how we should pronounce “Sotomayor” however the hell we feel like pronouncing it? He’s digging a deeper hole for himself:

[F]or those actually interested in the point, here’s what I was trying to get across: While in the past there may well have been too much social pressure for what sociologists call Anglo-conformity, now there isn’t enough. I think that’s a concern that most Americans share at some level, which is the root of the angst over excessive immigration, bilingual education, official English, etc.

Basically: everyone’s in a racist tizz about the rising tide of brown — the least we can do is make sure the savages don’t tell us how to talk.

Oh noes! brown people! How does he feel about orange people? (Boehner)Skin color and culture has absolutely nothing to angst over illegal immigration and bilingual education. No, thats all about tax dollars, law enforcement, and the job market. Maybe for him its all about color. If he is so afraid about brown skinned people, maybe he should move to northern russia where everyone is white as a ghost.

I was born white, so naturally, I’m racist. (or so I’m told) But, isn’t all of this more of a nationalist thing than a racist thing?

You can always detect backlash when the purveyor of teh stoopid has to revisit and clarify. Not that I object to this particular asshat digging himself deeper, mind you, but what he should have done was walk away briskly from that stinking pile of horseshit rather than continue to stir up the smell. Ah well, if nutsacks like him WANT to keep making our point for us, who are we to complain?

Or he can move to Northern Wisconsin, where even our black people are white.Counting down to the number of comments before i am called a racist……..(It was a joke!)

Sotomayor is as American as I am. She was born in the Bronx, NY and I was born in Reading PA. She is one year older than I.To claim that there is a pronunciation issue over a natural born US citizen’s name is utter bollocks.I grew up around some strange names (to me). I asked people how they pronounced their name when it was not obvious. Stoltzfus, Pfautz, and Radziviliuk are easy to pronounce one you’ve heard them pronounced once.Mr. Krik is a crank. He appears to be the uncivilized vicious savage in this altercation. Ms. Sotomayor is the stunning example of civilization at its best.

which is the root of the angst over excessive immigration, seriously? That’s the problem, not enough “Anglo-conformity”? That explains why Mel Martinez and Alberto Gonzales changed their names…And who is it that is experiencing this “angst”?

If it’s so difficult the pronounce names with a stressed last syllable, why is Stephen Colbert so successful?

Mr. PPP, I’m confused. She’s from NYC. Born in the Bronx. That’s as national as it gets.Is there a list of last names somewhere that don’t make American “patriots” and “nationalists” freak the fuck out?Jeebus, insecure white males are just as frightening as racists. Sheesh.

My last name is an Irish name. Very short and not uncommon, but people usually mispronounce it the first time they see it. According to Krikorifice’s logic I should not correct them and let them say it the “American” way.

I don’t know about you, but to me it seems like we are moving in the right direction when my response to every comment on current affairs by the right wing spokespeople gets nothing more from me an a big guffaw. There was a time when I would have aneurysms, or at least a few minutes of screaming epithets at the television. No one but cretins can pay serious attention to their BS.

Just for fun, I’m going to point out that Stephen Colbert is actually of Irish descent and the rest of his family actually pronounces the “t” in his last name. He changed the pronunciation for his show biz career. Also, any good Penn Dutchie knows that Newt Gingrich also changed the pronunciation of his last name when he moved to Georgia. Apparently, the correct pronunciation, Ging-RICK, which stresses the last syllable, was too “ethnic” for the people of Georgia.
