The Real Motive Behind the Cheney Family Torture Tour

Enjoy and Digg often.

Adding… I think it’s odd that the same people in the establishment press who cheerlead the invasion of Iraq are more often than not the same people who are opposed to investigating torture. Weird.

Either you’re channeling Randi Rhodes or she’s channeling you. In either case, the argument is a good one. Add to it Randi’s speculation that Cheney’s Talk TV Tour of Tours might possibly be an effort to pee in the prospective jury pool. Good stuff, Bob. I read you every day.

Excellent Bob. You presented the facts as we see them very well. Thank You.

Great job Bob, I couldn’t have said it any better. Soufan’s testimony was incredible, debunking all of the Cheney talking points in one fell swoop. Ought to be a lot of Rat thuglicans scrabbling for lifeboats pretty soon.

  • Lee Stranahan

    An especially brilliant piece, Bob…

Excellent work as always, though I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the idea of Cheney being connected to the Tate or LaBianca murders.

  • D. C.

Absolutely. Someone should check his alibi.

  • J

“even though, obviously, Cheney had nothing to do with [the Tate murders.” Oh, reeeeeally. Sure about that? maybe Jesse V was hinting at something…Hey, it’s a significantly less crazy idea than Obama Re-Education Camps.

We’re all on the same page…Cheney=MANSON!!! Let’s just hold a vote to rename Cheney “Charles Manson.” I hear

This very concept has been eating at me since Liz first hit the airwaves (“Former State Department Official” – whatever the fuck that means) to deny that what was done was torture. This full-court press by Cheney and his family is an attempt to distract us from the ugly truth we are about to stumble upon.Now. Cue Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to hold a press conference stating that we will not be investigating the lies that led to the war because we just have so much to do and have to look forward. “Why so cynical, Ron?” you might ask? Cheney has by all accounts admitted to committing a war crime. He wouldn’t be so quick to do so if he felt, for even a moment, he would be held to account for it. He is secure in the knowledge that the Democrats have no stomach, or spine, for an investigation and that his Republican Cabal in Congress would successfully block it.

@nano: How did we come to this??!!

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

Good question. How did we go from a Congress that was ready to impeach Dick Nixon over far less criminal activity to one that won’t even seriously consider investigating the criminal conspiracy that was the last administration? The easy answer is that there are very, very few true statesmen left on either side of the aisle. And I don’t think that’s an accident. I think that the plan for the past thirty years was to appeal to the lowest common denominator and elect the least qualified individuals. Part of the problem with the current Congress is that the Republican side of the aisle is populated by underclassmen that entered congressional duty under Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay. Neither of those two were interested in compromise or statesmanship and their progeny have no idea how to be legislators. It’s all about blocking the opposition or steamrolling them. You don’t need to be very good at your job to do that. Now we’ve arrived at a moment where the former Vice President of the United States can admit, on camera and without remorse, to committing war crimes in violation of federal law and international treaty and it’s treated as if it is merely a debate about policy, with even the media unable to use the word “torture” to describe what was done.

It’s horrifying. I honestly believe that the southern states could be like “we’re going to secede and start up that slavery thing again” and the government would be like “………” How do we NOW live in a country where “empathy” is a negative trait?! Who are these people??

  • Midad

Great piece Bob. I also caught Jesse on LKL. Awesome!

Bob – Great job, I’m a big fan of your work. As a matter of fact, I try in my blog to go in and hotlink evidence and points of interest in the same style as you. I totally agree with your perspective and reasoning in your latest entry – but as a dyed-in-the-wool conspiracy theorist, I think Cheney Also has disinfo as motivation and as an “assignment” from the real powers that be. I “cheerleaded” the invasion of Iraq, and I am opposed to the US investigating the torture. This is a matter for the international community to judge. Litigating war crimes has ALWAYS been up to a community of nations, since the Second War to end all wars. Why should the world trust our Congress to handle this investigation justly? Do you really think they are capable of that? However, your piece was pretty good, Bob. I was glad to see you stayed away from teh crazy to make your case.
