I’m back, baby! And glad to be home.

Carlos!Good to have you back.I hope you had a relaxing time.

Welcome back mister Carl.I really love Ed Shultz show. But why on earth does he have Tancredo on there? Having someone on with an opposing viewpoint is good but atleast have someone who isn’t rude to the other folks appearing on the show.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl™

Git -had a great time. Thanks.Ashby – Thanks. It’s one thing to have an opposing viewpoint, but that doesn’t mean it’s a valid one. Too many times on this show and Tweety’s, the opposition is just a talking points dittohead repeating lies. For once I’d like an honest debate instead of denial when faced with the facts.

The corporatist doesn’t understand that there are only a very small number of credit card companies now. They have all merged into one big greedy fuck the sheeple corporatist orgasmatron. Yes, they are all abusing their customers. The only way to not be abused by your credit card company is to not have a credit card. Fucking corporate shill scum.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ ∇ Silly Ratfaced Git ∇

Other than that I have no strong opinions.

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

I personally have not been physically abused by my credit card company (Capitol One) but I know others that have. I don’t use mine that much though so maybe im not worth abusing.Ive got a friend and she has 2 kids and she got into debt and instead of helping her pay it off the company doubled her rates and she ended up having to go to a 3rd party to help her settle her debt.

BC -The wrong wing has a distinct inability to debate anymore. All they do is mindlessly spout talking points. They have become the powerpointillism brigade. We don’t write essays or novels, instead everything is a powerpoint presentation. We love those outlines of talking points. It’s why they have no answers. Everything is based on the superficiality of the talking points. You want depth, go elsewhere. They have spent decades solving infrastructure problems with a coat of paint. The underlying problems are still there but it looks nicer. They are all about appearance and the superficial. Substance is of no concern. Try to talk about substance and they change the topic. We see this everywhere. They are followers with no leader. The puppets have no puppeteer.

This is the fundamental flaw of Authoritarianism. It is undesirable for people to think for themselves, they have leaders to tell them what to think. Our wrong wing is currently lacking a leader. There are hoards of wrong wingers running around without a leader to tell them what to think, so they are using Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. as their leader. Someone must fill the vacuum since these people never learned to think for themselves.Since Limbaugh is a fuckwit, the entire wrong wing now sounds like a bunch of fuckwits.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ ∇ Silly Ratfaced Git ∇

He was asked a question, that is what he said.He was asked another question, that is what he said.Someone else went into great detail on why the regulation was needed. He repeated the TP.As he had the fact that *all* of the credit card companies were raising rates with no warning, He shouted the TP overtop of the other person speaking. He was a rude, ignorant, talking point dispensing shill for the credit card industry posing as a member of the House. I think his name was Tancredo.

  • RockandTroll

Silly-I didn’t see it, and can’t find a reference to it right now, and I don’t know who this Tancredo is either.I agree with you that just repeating the same TP is usually of little value. You should be able to defend your position, if the opportunity is there to do so. Again, without seeing the actual exchange, my experience is that people keep repeating things if they believe the listener is not grasping the main talking point, which in this case I would think would be, free market = little/no regulation. Or, he could just be a dickhead.

    In particular, this part:

    In popular usage

Contemporary popular (as opposed to social science) usage of the term is more pejorative, emphasizing the role of business corporations in government decision-making at the expense of the public. The power of business to affect government legislation through lobbying and other avenues of influence in order to promote their interests is usually seen as detrimental to those of the public. In this respect, corporatism may be characterized as an extreme form of regulatory capture, and is also termed corporatocracy, a form of plutocracy. If there is substantial military-corporate collaboration it is often called militarism or the military-industrial complex.

We haven’t had free markets in a very long time.”If I’m into OIl, then I am cautious of any threat to it.”Caution is one thing. Buying up technology to suppress it should be illegal. With the case of “Big Global Warming”, it has the Government(s) in it’s back pocket, and will push everything else considered a threat off a cliff.Meanwhile, many people are losing their way of live, thier way of living, and are being forced into losing everything they have.Thier only recourse is that maybe they will eventually be re-trained for the Green economy.

“Furthermore, where there’s Big Business, there’s also Profit Taking, and protectinist activities from the Companies that are involved.”It’s the protectionist activities that I want to put a stop to and the Republicans worship because it funds their campaigns.Since when is making a profit a bad thing? You make it sound like big businesses are a bad thing. Or are they a bad thing when they are intended to reduce reliance on your product? We have to reduce our use of fossil fuels. This is not a debate. We have to reduce our use of fossil fuels. That includes coal.If I were building a hybrid car, I would use a gas turbine engine. This engine could be eassily configured to burn gasoline, hydrogen, propane, natural gas. With a bit of changing it could burn diesel or vegetable oils. This engine would turn a generator to charge batteries and run the motors on the drive wheels. This configuration would be much more fuel efficient then the IC engines now in use.Moving from hybrid to pure electric cars. Automobile engines have a thermodynamic efficiency that maxes out at around 24%. 20% is a nice round number. This means that you burn five times as much fuel as you actually need to get you work done. The other 80% is just lost as heat.Electric Power generation plants work at thermodynamic efficiencies in excess of 70%. Lets just say we lose 20% to electric transmission and battery charging. THis leaves us with an overall efficiency of about 50% for electric cars. We are now wasting only half of our energy instead of four fifths.Thermodynamics is a nasty mistress. It’s part of our fouling the planet by using lower efficiency technology to move things around. Moving things by train is much more efficient than moving things by truck. Detroit has done everything they can to kill trains and we are paying the price for their behavior.

Since Big Oil and coal control much of our government and industry, and they are opposed and threatened by alternative energy, it is a good thing that government help green energy get a leg up. It is a long way from becoming a big industry, let alone Big Business.

blue dog -I am still not getting your concern. You are not a troll and I understand that you have a concern even if I don’t grok what that concern is.Let me walk through the facts as we have them and perhaps you can point to your concern better.Anthropomorphic Global Warming is a scientific certainty. The only debate is about how much of the warming is from human activities versus natural processes. There is no doubt that humans are causing a portion of it.We must reduce our carbon emissions. The majority of our carbon emissions come from burning fossil fuel.We have to increase our use of electricity in order to reduce our use of fossil fuel. If automobiles were electric instead of internal combustion we would reduce fossil fuel usage by more than 1/2 by switching from 20% to 50% efficiency technology. We need to reduce fossil fuel usage even more than this. Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Hydrodynamic, anything that does not involve burning fossil fuel. We will probably have to build new nuclear plants. The Government is going to provide incentives for companies to develop this technology. This is not new. The government has provided tax incentives for companies to develop technology many times in the past. Under Clinton, there were huge tax incentives for R&D. Bush did away with those incentives and R&D came to a screeching halt. Am I the only one that has noticed that all of the new products for the past 8 years have come from everywhere but the U.S.?Note that our use of oil will not stop. It will never stop until we run out. So many of our plastics and pharmaceuticals are based on oil. We should have stopped burning it ages ago. There is going to be a much larger number of companies involved in electrical power generation. It won’t just be Westinghouse and GE anymore. Hopefully there will be Engineering R&D jobs in the U.S. again. This is called progress.

  • Teh Minx! Now with new wheels!

Emsique & My Friendly, Not-So-Local Silly Git– Thank you! I’m very excited. To answer your question, Git, the car rides high. No getting on the ground to get in. Smooth, quick acceleration & quiet interior. I need to watch for the blind spot, though, it’s in a different location than in my old car.Ems– Oh boy, would I love to try the green, leafy stuff. Hook me up with a couple of your friends & I will make the road trip. Wisconsin is exceptionally backwards regarding medical pot– I don’t expect this to change in the near future. Perhaps the federal laws will change to support medical pot. I’m thinking of trying Traditional Chinese Medicine, though. Got to go– my arms are burning from too much IPod Internet writing…

Minx -Find a good acupuncturist and a good herbalist. It will probably help. Our medical system is science based, but it doesn’t know everything. A good Chinese herbalist can make a huge difference in how you feel. The problem is finding one. Acupuncturists are easier to find and often they can hook you up with a good herbalist.
