    OMG – am I first??QT

I had a couple Jehovah’s Witnesses show up at my door today. They said they were missionaries visiting people in the area to spread the word of jesus. I told him they would have to go someplace else, because compared to them I may as well be the anti-christ. I then proceeded to tell them goodluck and have a nice day and the look on their faces was that of utter confusion.

The way some on the Left are reacting to Obama reminds me of what Bill Maher said on his show: stay loyal to the principle, not the person. Sounds exactly like what the Left is doing and while it sounds admirable they should be prepared when the GOP starts to use their own words against Obama – which they should if they want to raise doubts.I was reading a free newspaper in NYC and one half a page was about Obama disappointing the Left, followed by blogger (actually commentators) quotes from Dkos and Democratic Underground expressing such disappointment in Obama that one of them removed an Obama bumper sticker from his car. Stuff like this are all over the blogosphere, but when you hear about this on the MSM, blogs pop up saying the MSM is overreacting.Recently over at TPM, someone made a long list of why Obama is Bush and went on to make some inflammatory remarks. What happened? A clique of TPMer’s slammed him. But the funny thing is everything he said was said by all those very same bloggers – “He betrayed us”, “he’s sounding like Bush”, “I worked so hard to get him elected”. They all said it before, but when an outsider tries to jump on the band wagon of “Give Me My Vote Back” – they cry foul. I don’t get it.My gut feeling tells me that Obama will remain popular with mainstream America while the Left and the Right criticize non-stop. And if he remains popular despite the attacks, the Left will become irrelevant – they’ll have little to no pull if they want him to enact one of their policies. Chris Matthews likes to talk about dancin’ with the one that brung ya – Well the Left helped (and thanks to the other 50 million people) him get elected, but Obama is the only one that get them into the V.I.P room – work together guys.Sorry for the rambling. I’m not as good as you Bob. I just wanted to get that off my chest. Please seriously address the expectations issue because I am sick and tired of being labeled a Kool Aid drinker when all I want to express is that he can’t do everything by himself with the stroke of a pen.

Greetings all.J M – If I have time I usually give them time to practice their spiel. They won’t change my mind, but I ask interesting questions. Not to antagonize, just to give them something to think about. If I think they are frauds, then I am less kind. Most of them are sincere and only wish well for others so I have no problem respecting that. If I’m too busy, I just tell them that they would be wasting their time with me but I wish them well and hope they learn from their efforts. I rather think the missionary stuff is good for people of faith. It forces them to interface with people who don’t think exactly like them. I’ve had outstanding conversations with mormons who were doing their mission work.I’m going to watch “Australia” so I’ll be back later.

Back in college I had stayed at a friends house after a fun night of partying. We were awakened by a group of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I used to paint my nails black and had funky hair (it was the 80′s).I was very much interested in learning all about different religions and spent almost 2 hours asking questions. One of the things I learned that day was that I questions a lot of things that most people of faith have never even thought of.It was a very interesting conversation. I don’t know what they thought of me, but they sure did stare.OTdid tweety just say chuck todd was brilliant??

yeah and NCIS isn’t even on…I gotta watch House.

Does anyone have background info on why the Dem’s are voting to not fund the Gitmo closure?

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

^^ Apparently the White House didn’t provide a detailed plan, putting all of the congresspeople on the hook when gitmo residents are transferred to prisons in their state…. on the hook for giving the president a blank check. So they voted against the whole thing, and think they’ll be able to get the funding as soon as the president presents an actual plan.QT

I hope the doucheborough is watching Olbermann tonight. This ex-CIA man is the shit.

    Thanks Queen

I’ve had some really great run-ins with the JWs.Once was when I was about 8 mos pregnant with my 3rd kid (who weighed in at almost 12 lbs, so I was HUGE). It was a hot day & my 16 mon old daughter was wearing only a diaper & my almost 5 yr old son was running around in a t-shirt & underpants. Both kids came to the door with me, both in tears…and the JWs started off by asking me how I felt about abortion. I just stared at them. One quickly changed the subject to ask how I felt about divorce. I replied that right then, it sounded pretty damn good. They looked shocked, but asked if they could leave me literature about Jesus. When I told them I was Jewish they took off at a quick trot.I saw them around the neighborhood after that, but they never came back to my house. go figure.

  • Alex

allincompassing, hopefully it’s because it costs 80 freaking million dollars to do it.

I had some people knock on my door Saturday. I didn’t answer it. I looked through the window and saw the bibles and went back to reading. They left me a book about how the world is coming to an end. I looked through it to see if it was because of Obama, but nothing specifically said that. I recycled it.

  • http://homepage.mac.com/wildlifeweb/bird/flamingo/honolulu/flamingo01.jpg veralynn

and ceu? I can just see the look on your face!!

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

QT is first. Is that a first for her? (((HUGS)))This is how I handle the Witnesses:When Witnesses come to my door, I ask for the name of their Leader-Unit™. Then I explain that I am in the Federal Witness Protection Program, better known as FWPP™, and that I do not wish to be disturbed, thank you very much. Then I shut the door.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Q: What do you get when you cross a Unitarian with a klansman?A: a burning question-mark.

  • http://annette-justmylittlepieceoftheworld.blogspot.com/ Annette

Why does everyone expect Pres. Obama to do everything? He has already stated he wants to overturn DADT and is waiting on Congress to pass legislation and he will sign it.What does he have to do write the bill himself?

  • ceu

so let me get this straight – the Dems voted down the funding for closing Gitmo because they wanted a say in how the prisoners are treated….?

  • ceu

and WHY do the Congresscritters continue referring to the prisoners as terrorists, when 25 out of the 29 tried have had the charges against them dismissed, and therefore can’t legitimately be called terrorists?? I mean…one is not actually a criminal unless one commits a crime, right? So why is it ok to label someone a terrorist who has not been shown to be one?

I wanted Reid and Pelosi to go before the election. I really want them to go now. Reid is shaking every time the repugs and blue dogs say anything. Pelosi is the consummate politician. Obama wants to change the way DC works, I understand you need to work within the system. But Pelosi is too partisan and Reid is ineffective.Who is the second guy in the Senate? Durbin?

  • http://homepage.mac.com/wildlifeweb/bird/flamingo/honolulu/flamingo01.jpg veralynn

good question ceuanswer: DC is hardwired for repugs, the media shows it everyday. They call them terrorists, so they are terrorists.

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Ceu – Under Bush, the word terrorist was torn down to be nearly meaningless as it was the word assigned to nearly everyone that isn’t white.Observe the fact that the nations ‘terrorist watch list’ has over 1 million names on it.

a jehovah’s witness came to the door once when I was about five. my dad answered and said, in an inexplicably perfect british accent, “sorry, we’re sacrificing a goat in the back right now…care to join us?”

  • fe

goat sacrifice is a thread killer, huh?

  • http://emsique.blogspot.com emsique

I got sick of JW’s coming to my door so I moved to China. Problem solved!

  • http://emsique.blogspot.com emsique

Everybody’s watching bad Merkin TV. I was impressed that the senate actually overwhelmingly passed credit card reform. The only thing missing was an interest cap. Wow!

  • ceu

HA, fe! I like that one.

  • http://arkytek.blogspot.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

fe -I once got rid of some JWs (I was very busy) by telling them “I’ll take one of your books if you’ll take one of mine called “The Book of the Law” by Aleister Crowley. I never saw JWs leave so quickly and the really funny thing was I never saw them again.

  • ceu

wow. This is interestingIn a 22-page decision issued Tuesday evening, U.S. District Court Judge John Bates ruled that members in Al Qaeda or the Taliban could be detained, but that mere support for Al Qaeda activities is not a sufficient basis for the government to hold prisoners at Guantanamo Bay or elsewhere.Could be I was right & that Obama’s approach re: detainee trials will result in the release of most of them by judges? Takes the political heat off him….(I’m hardly ever right on these things…)

  • ceu

meant to include this in above:Bates’s decision does not mean it would be impossible to hold someone for knowingly giving aid to Al Qaeda. Rather, the government would have to proceed with a criminal indictment or perhaps a military commission or court-martial, all of which would are likely to give Guantanamo prisoner more rights than he currently enjoys.

  • http://arkytek.blogspot.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

ceu -I think you are correct in your supposition. Most of the detainees are being held because someone thought they might have known someone who had a cousin that once actually met Osama himself. Or similar very shaky grounds.Yes. Telling the JWs that you are Jewish or a Satanist will cause them to never appear at your doorstep again until you move. I have no idea how they share this intelligence but they do somehow.

  • http://homepage.mac.com/wildlifeweb/bird/flamingo/honolulu/flamingo01.jpg veralynn

    newt on the daily show

  • http://homepage.mac.com/wildlifeweb/bird/flamingo/honolulu/flamingo01.jpg veralynn

newt damn well knows members cannot go public with ANY intel briefings, that would be treason. bushco would have brought charges through the Speaker at the time, Haskert. And gotten n investgation against her and claimed she was the root of all evil. And what about the other members of bot committee? The repugs were in charge and had more members on the committee’s than the dems. So they were also complicent, to what bush co was doing. Where are they? The CIA has ADMITTED their info was maybe not accurate.

  • Alex

Ugh, why would they have Newt on? Unless it ends up being Jim Cramer-esque.

  • http://homepage.mac.com/wildlifeweb/bird/flamingo/honolulu/flamingo01.jpg veralynn

It is a good interview, not so much Cramer like, but Jon got him to almost say Obama has been a transformational President.

  • http://arkytek.blogspot.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

Newt is a disingenuous scuzzbucket. He should not be on my TV.
