Quote of the Day

“What I am saying is that no torture or harsh interrogation techniques were employed by any U.S. interrogator for the entire second term of Cheney-Bush, 2005-2009. So, if we are to believe the protestations of Dick Cheney, that Obama’s having shut down the “Cheney interrogation methods” will endanger the nation, what are we to say to Dick Cheney for having endangered the nation for the last four years of his vice presidency?” —Col. Lawrence B. Wilkerson, former chief of staff of Colin Powell’s Department of State

Suck on that one, Scarborough.

I am really beginning to love Col. Wilkerson. I just want him on more shows, everywhere. Git always puts a link to a video of the Colonel on Rachel which is a must see. Also, i=while you are looking at that, Git also posts another video that everyone should watch. It is a montage of bushco lies.

Perhaps what is meant is: when you take these techniques off the table, it makes us look weak to our enemies. Like a toothless tiger. It’s debatable.

  • Lexaburn

Is it not obvious that Scumborough SUCKS enough already, Bob?Too easy!

  • Kevin

Oh, snap! Nice work, Colonel–if only the MSM would catch a clue!

  • D. C.

This is just like all the republicans who are now wetting themselves over the closing of GITMO and possibility that “terrorists could come to our neighborhoods”, even as they were completely silent when Bush started releasing some of its detainees back in 2006.

JohnTorture is not debatable. It is illegal. It is morally wrong. We are the United States of America, we are not supposed to act like the terrorists. We are supposed to be better than that. These techniques have been off the table because of the facts I stated above. They are also off the table because they do NOT produce good information. If you think that is debatable, maybe you should reevaluate your morality.

Looks like the doucheborough will need a good supply of antiseptic mouthwash as there will be more to come (bad word play, sorry ’bout that).

The ice Mr. Cheney has been standing on is getting thinner and thinner. Soon, he will know how the polar bears feel. Rachel Maddow – Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Ret. – Torture and Cheney. Ouch, Dick…

  • John

Vera,What I mean is, you make such a public spectacle, as has been done, drawing attention that we’ve”taken these techniques off the table” removing all doubt that they would ever be used… it renders our image as weak to our enemies.Whether you like it or not does not make it untrue. You’d like to think everyone loves that”We are the United States of America”.Do you really believe that?

  • Alex

John,I’m pretty sure he’s pointing out the hypocrisy of Cheney’s statements, not making a case for torture….

  • John

Clarification for Alex:Perhaps what is meant by Cheney is: when you take these techniques off the table, which has been done in spectacular fashion, it makes us look weak to our enemies. Like a toothless tiger. It’s debatable.

  • John

removing all doubt that they would ever be used..

  • John

whether we use them or not.

The Bush Administration implemented a criminal conspiracy to raid the treasury by following the plan architected by the Program for a New American Century in the mid ’90s. Perl, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were major players at PNAC. A major portion of the plan was an invasion of Iraq to provide oil for Israel and to funnel public funds into friendly corporations that were complicit with the conspiracy. This is perhaps the largest successful robbery in history. US War Criminals – The Bush Lies Montage

again John, they have been off the table since the 40′s. if you were an enemy of the US and you were in a firefight, you would be more likely to give up and become a POW rather than keep fighting. if these techniques were on the table, you may choose to fight to the death.and yes I believe in the ideals this country was founded on. I think we can be that “shining city on the hill”. it may be corny, but yes I do believe in this country. I believe we are a humane people. I have been proven wrong by the last 8 years, but I have faith we will get back to being who we say we are.this experiment the founding fathers started should always strive to be better and treat all people with respect and with dignity. that should never be compromised. we have faced more dangerous times and did not resort to these techniques.

thanks Git for posting the videos here :)

John -I understand what you are saying, but Cheney is full of shit. Taking these off the table removes the biggest recruiting tool used by the terrorist organizations. Obama has made it much harder for them to recruit now. How that makes us less safe I fail to comprehend.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

You are welcome vera. Thank you for suggesting it. They are very appropriate on this thread.

John, you don’t terrify the bad guys by torturing them in secret and detaining them indefinitely so that they cannot go forth and spread the tales of America’s swift and terrible wrath. And by the way, I don’t give a flying fuck if some uneducated, 12th century-loving, wipes-his-ass-with-his-hand terrorist assclown is afraid of my country or not. We are called the Most Powerful Nation on Earth. We have been able for 50 years to rain down death from above and from below. We can have an entire battlegroup just offshore within a day. We can land a battalion right on top of anyone’s head with little notice. We have the knowledge and ability put a MAN ON THE FUCKING MOON. None of that awesome power or ability has stopped one terrorist from planning and even implementing any attack. Honestly, considering all that we are capable of, do you really think that the possibility of torture is all that’s needed to stop them in their tracks? Somehow we are viewed as weak, in spite of everything that we are and are capable of doing, because we refuse to strap someone to a board and pour water down their throat?Fuck off with your “we will look weak” for not threatening to torture. My country is better than that.

  • http://tarackian.deviantart.com J M Ashby

Taking torture off the table makes us look weak? What fucking world do you live in?Yeah I guess us riddling your country with thousands of munitions coated in birth-defect inducing depleted uranium is not threatening enough. We gotta add torture for safe measure.Jackass

  • Alex

John,I would then redirect you to the quote above. Hypocrisy.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

John,If you think that using professional interrogators “looks weak,” then you have another think coming. Why do you think tens of thousands of Japanese surrendered in the Pacific? Why did hundreds of thousands of German soldiers come running as fast as they could toward American forces instead of getting caught up by Soviets? Why were Iraqis surrendering to CNN crews in 1991?Because WE. DON’T. TORTURE.The horror of the last eight years will come to haunt us the next time we have to go to war against someone. They will make it harder for Americans to win and make it far more likely that Americans will be treated harshly. And for what? Torture doesn’t even provide good intelligence:http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/05/14/torture/Torture has always been, and will forever be, about political motivations.

  • John

Matt. That’s your opinion.I was just stating what Cheney may have meant.Man.

  • John

And Alex, okay, you win, I surrender.I can’t take too much nonsense.Imagine why not many opposing views stickaround here due to the twisted logic, fantasticsilly git conspiracy theories(even though 50+millionvoted R in the last election, but 2000 musthave been rigged…)and down right proposterous verbal attacks onother Americans, using psychologically torridverbal assaults.sure, America the Beautiful.Turn on an episode of Cops.

  • http://www.xkcd.com/ ∇•B=0  Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ

Yes John -Use the ‘conspiracy theory’ label to mindlessly discredit that which you are ignorant of. If you think our elections are safe and foolproof than you have not read the CA SoS Top to Bottom Review of Election Machinery or the results of the OH SoS EVEREST. Both of those reviews were conducted by recognized experts and both concluded that our election machines are hackable, insecure, and unfit for purpose. You can obtain the PDFs from these scientific studies by computer and computer security experts from the web sites of the OH and CA SoSs. Hours of lovely reading about how the U.S. taxpayers are being ripped off paying for overpriced, defective, easily rigged garbage to count our votes in so-called elections. This information is well know in the computer security community. I have no idea why our MSM has never mentioned this widely known to computer experts and rather important to everyone news. Could it be they prefer we don’t know? You should read Dr. Felton’s Freedom to Tinker blog. The shoddy state of election integrity is well documented there. The four biggest election machine experts all blog there.Just because you are obviously ignorant on a topic does not mean that we all are. You don’t get to dismiss reality by yelling conspiracy theory you ignorant ideologue.

  • John

ok silly – you win. Anger is such a beautiful reflection.
