Republicans Are Addicted to Fail

The Republicans can’t help themselves. Their weekend townhall meeting (which took place inside what appeared to be an old Chi Chi’s franchise) was composed of a guy with the most unpopular last name in recent political history, and the guy who lost the Republican nomination by a gazillion delegates. And now they’re consulting three former Bushies:

Republicans looking to recover from Bush-era defeats are turning to an unlikely source for advice: top aides to former President George W. Bush.

Former White House press secretary Dana Perino, former Bush counselor Ed Gillespie and former White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto are among those set to provide words of wisdom to House Republican press secretaries at their annual workshop this Friday.

This would be similar to, after the 2004 election, all of us gathering around to absorb the sage wisdom of Bob Shrum.

When I read that, I almost knocked myself out when I doubled over in laughter and hit my head on the desk.I especially love that they were referred to as “the gold standard for Republican communications professionals.”

Nothing to see here, it’s just more of the blind leading the blind.

Bob, can a civilized nation afford a political party that “Hates” government? I would say that if the Republicans were one of three, four, or even five major competitive parties then that answer would be yes. However, in a de facto two-party system just the fact that Republican’s have a place at the table mucks up any real chance at good governance.Republicans PROTECT WEALTH. That’s almost all they do. That’s not a politically profound ideology in any sense.

“Addicted to fail” is a fine way to put it. The demographic that the GOP is betting on? Not exactly party-loyal. In fact, the more the Republicans embrace Teh Wacky™ the more their teabagging ‘base’ will turn out to be fickle conspiracy nuts living outside the reality-based community.

the republicans have reached the point of desperation where i start to feel sorry for the person, even when it’s their own doing. if they weren’t trying to take the country down with them i might even be nice to one or two of them. but they are, so i won’t. ;)

They should schedule their next meeting at Milliway’s. It’s where they belong with a one-way time travel ticket.“Ladies and gentlemen,” he said, “The Universe as we know it has now been in existence for over one hundred and seventy thousand million billion years and will be ending in a little over half an hour. So, welcome one and all to Milliways, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!”

I have begun to wonder – Are any of the other third parties capable of replacing the Republicans?I know they are still one of the largest parties, but I’m really getting tired of hearing the same old obstructionist talk. What say we start giving more time to the Green Party, or the Libertarian party. At least we’ll hear something different for a change.

Dana Perino? Really? I didn’t know ‘brittle’ was a qualification for…well, it’s a ‘workshop’. When’s the last time anything useful got done a ‘workshop’ anyway?
