Super Stupid

The new commercial from the NOM people:

A couple things about this. Children are confused by a lot of things. But they have a capacity for understanding and tolerance that often exceeds even the most educated, enlightened adults. Also, if you swap out the actors with adults and added a tone of sarcasm, this exact script could work for any random FOX News host or far-right politician.

Helen Lovejoy lives! This is simply a refined version of the pro-Proposition 8 ads that ran incessantly here in California last autumn. Shameful and unoriginal: a twofer.

Gee, you know what else might confuse children?Seeing adults on TV attempting to say torture is ok if it works.

Ashby, that’s genius.Lee, are you reading? Children reading from the torture memos.

Great suggestion J M.I’d bet that Carl would like it too.I hope Lee implements something like that.

NOM isn’t really concerned enough about this issue or they wouldn’t be putting those words and ideas into these kid actor’s heads in the first place. So either they really know their position is comlpete bullshit or they don’t mind exploiting these kids for their own ends, probably both. Of course NOM’s whole argument is seriously flawed, but you’d hope they’d at least have enough sense to be conistent about the issue. Oh, what was I thinking?! Consistency? My bad!

The same ad from 1543: If we accept the Copernican model of the universe, our children will be taught a new way of thinking.”Mommy, if the sun doesn’t revolve around the earth, where will Grandpa’s angel fly to?”
