Trippi Calls Bullshit

(CNN) – Joe Trippi, a former top aide to John Edwards, is sharply refuting a report a handful of campaign staffers knew about the former presidential candidate’s affair and had plans to sabotage his White House bid, telling CNN Monday the claim is “complete bull s**t.”

“No one that I know had such a plan, I wasn’t involved in a plan like that, it didn’t exist, it’s a fantasy,” Trippi said in a phone interview.

Hmm. This is a pretty strong denial. But as a professional political operative, it has to be. To admit to something like this would ruin his career — no politician alive would want to hire someone who planned to deliberately sabotage a campaign.

The wife of someone high up must’ve had an eye for Edwards, what with all the mock outrage and smearing going on concerning him. I tell you, I saw it with Bill Clinton, too. There are some bitchy, bitchy men out there that just can’t stand these cads for the fact that they could probably pull women without the seat in government. Watch the Republicons very carefully when they talk about characters like Edwards. Some can’t hide their envy.Buncha poindexters with penis envy.O’Lielly fits the profile, actually.

I have one simple problem with all this talk. If the Edwards aids planned to “sabotage” his campaign if it looked like he was winning … why not just go ahead and come out with the affair and end his campaign then. Why let it linger? Remember Edwards stayed in it for a long time before leaving the race, and he had plenty of opportunities to get out.

OTI have to say that I am somewhat surprised, but in fairness I have to say that Rush Limbaugh has proven to be a smarter person than I expected. Rush has said nothing at all about the jokes Wanda Sykes told about him Saturday night. This is the smartest response he could have made. I hate to have to congratulate him on a very wise decision on his part, but in fairness I must. Very good move Mr. Limbaugh. I’m certain you will give me reason to criticize you again soon.

Git: I think you just need to wait a little longer before Rush hollers about Sykes’ joke. I can’t see him letting this thing lie.

Joe’s right and the anonymous aides are full of it. I remember well the outrage and fury of Edwards supporters. I remember that Lee got banned from Daily Kos over this and I was lambasted over at Open Left for daring to point out that the rumors could possibly be true. No way they sat on KNOWLEDGE, and let friends, family and other democrats spend money on Edwards only to be plotting to pull the plug. They come off as callous unfeeling evil people to even suggest it. If they KNEW there was reason to stop supporting Edwards they should have thrown in with another camp. There was certainly enoug incentive – both Obama and Hillary would have welcomed an earlier fold of Edwards’s camp.QT

As the manager of volunteers at ground zero – the Edwards campaign headquarters in Chapel Hill – I can tell you that any such plan is plain BS, and either intended to further smear Edwards’ name, make news for themselves, or both.Every single person who walked in or out of that office wanted one thing only, and believed in only one man. To say there was some underground campaign to bring him down is absurd monday morning quarterbacking.I was just as angry as anyone else who supported Edwards that he ran for president with this looming in the background, but at the time of the campaign there is absolutely NO WAY anyone knew the affair was/or had happened. I am just as ashamed or embarassed that I worked my ass off for him – but I’m not stupid enough, spiteful enough, or delusional enough to come out and claim such obvious BS.
