Very Serious Questions

Two Very Serious Questions today.

The first one comes to us from ThinkProgress and Hilzoy:

When will the right wing insist the NYC synagogue bombers are ‘too dangerous’ for U.S. prisons?

And I have one myself:

When will certain bloggers and commenters blast Russ Feingold and Bernie Sanders, who both voted to deny funding to close Guantanamo, for betraying us and acting like George W. Bush?

(Adding… To be clear, I don’t think any of them are like Bush. Not in the slightest. Just making a point here about bloggers who were likely predisposed to being critical of President Obama in the first place. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but let’s be fair then, yes?)

    are they american citizens?

Does it matter if they’re citizens? Dangerous is dangerous, no?

  • ceu

Was Zacarias Moussaoui naturalized before being tried/convicted/imprisoned? Missed that.

  • rob

okay, I guess that doesn’t matter.

Did you see Lawrence O’Donnell? I thought his head was going to explode after spitting out his fifth ‘LIAR’ reaction.

If you think we only have U.S. citizens in U.S. prisons, then you are mistaken. From the NY Times:

The men, all of whom live in Newburgh, about 60 miles north of New York City, had met in prison. Mr. Cromitie, 53, who authorities described as the plot’s leader, had lived in Brooklyn and had as many as 27 arrests for minor crimes both in upstate New York and in New York City, Mr. Kelly said. Mr. Cromitie, David Williams, and Onta Williams were native-born Americans, while Mr. Payen was born in Haiti and is a Haitian citizen.

But, the real question is, are these folks some of the right wing extremists Dept. of Homeland Security recently warned us about. If they are then Ms. Napolitano deserves an apology that she will not get because the wrong wing is a bunch of disingenuous propagandists.Based on what the wrong wing has been screaming about for the last several days, then these folks can’t be kept in U.S. prisons.Hilzoy:

After all, they might provide financing for other jihadists from their supermax cells, or radicalize other prisoners, or use special Terrorist Mind Control Techniques to create a whole army of brainwashed convicts under their complete control.

Hypocrisy and Inconsistancy, the GOP’s core competency. The Republitards® are all about lying to the public. If they ever say anything truthful, wake me up. Some people apparently can’t detect bullshit when it is flung at them.

What tends to make me crazy in the constant use by the MSM of “The Vice President” when referring to Cheney. He’s not the fucking VP! Joe Biden is. They make it sound to the casual listener as if there’s a major disagreement going on between Obama & Biden. And, Margaret Carlson just pointed out that the President has a monumental sales job to do. Said Cheney’s view is simply “Do it my way or you die.” And, as she noted, the public (whoever those morons are) want to be “kept safe” and don’t want “terrorists in their neighborhoods” so complex solutions don’t sell well with them.Am I missing something? Didn’t we WIN the fucking election??

Heard a sobering and, I thought, insightful analysis of the Guantanamo vote on PBS last night. The commentators said the Rethugs had successfully reframed the issue to a Nimby one, so people are afraid of terrorists living down the street. And that the Dems mainly voted with the Repubs as they can already see the campaign commercials that would be made if they voted for the closure. So to me the two key points are -1. the Republicans are still controlling the dialog, and as long as they are able to reframe issues like this and sell it to the public we’re in trouble. And 2., this points to the problems with our seemingly continual campaigning. We finish one election, and 4 + months into 2009, politicians are running scared about whether they will be elected in 2010. Something has to change in this system, either pols need to grow a backbone, or we need to change how elections are conducted.

Ajabu =Presidents and Vice Presidents retain their title forever. President Ford is still President Ford even though he died. Likewise, both president Bushes are still President Bush. Likewise for President Carter and President Clinton. It has always been this way. The confusion is because the wrong wing always called President Carter “Former President Carter” as a juvenile insult similar to “Democrat Party” and “Barry Obama”. They enjoy being childish. But since they consistently said Former President Carter for twelve striaght years, many people began to think it was proper. It wasn’t. It still isn’t. It was an insult that has never been apologized for. That is why I have no sympathy for those arrogant bastards. At any rate, it is very proper to call Teh Dick™ Vice President Cheney.
