Greg Sargent delves into the guest booking philosophy at MSNBC…

…as Steve Benen, David Kurtz, and others have pointed out, Liz Cheney has been granted a near-constant platform on MSNBC to act as her father’s chief defender and go after Obama, often without meaningful challenge from either a co-guest or from anchors. They also note that it’s unclear what makes her newsworthy enough, in and of herself, to merit all that airtime.

Asked to respond to the above criticisms, MSNBC spokesperson Alana Russo emailed:

“We often have repeat guests on, from both sides of the aisle, when they are interesting and engaging. There are many people who appear frequently throughout the day on MSNBC, and Liz is a great guest.”

    What you’re missing is that a “great guest” to a corporate news channel is someone who is controversial and makes people talk even the talking is to critisize. Nevermind if they are sleezy or right or wrong.Its all ratings.

    I guess being a “great guest” outweighs being a horrible human being.But then again, if you take the three hours of Matthews, Olbermann, and Maddow out of the mix, MSNBC is barely on this side of Fox News. So I’m not surprised.

    Yeah, without Olbermann Maddow and Schultz I would never turn on MSNBC. I often feel sorry for Shuster during the day when he has to put up with the bimbo next to him.

    Great guest? Does that mean she doesn’t steal the silverware, run up a long distance bill, and drink all the Maker’s Mark? WTF?Sometimes I think the American media is not a whole lot different than China’s state run system. It just has a different set of insect overlords.
