Cut the Bipartisanship

Senate Republicans will never vote for a healthcare reform bill. Never. So putting this bipartisan stink all over the bill in the name of courting Republicans is a huge mistake.

That just leaves the corrupt and spineless caucus of the Senate Democrats. Groups like the SEIU, Health Care for America Now and our own Lee Stranahan are doing the right thing by targeting the corrupt and spineless because they’re the true swing votes. The secret will be to make them fear us more than they fear the Republicans and health insurance lobby.

Exactly. We can make every concession and turn the thing into a tax break bonanza for the health care industry and they would still vote “no” as a block because that’s their strategy for everything now. It’s actually nice to hear that Senator Feinstein is feeling the heat and is torqued about it. It means the message is getting through.

Cartoonist Matt Bors seems to have a pretty accurate take on it, Bob.

The only way they fear us more than lobbyists is to eliminate ALL money from lobbying, including eliminating any donations that employees of these lobbyists make. If we make lobbyists stand on the merits of their arguments, this health care reform would be done already.Maybe we should have passed a lobbying reform bill first. Of course, the only time either party wants lobby reform is when they are the minority.Gee, I wonder why that is.
