Dial Early and Often

Dianne Feinstein, a member of the Coalition of the Corrupt and Spineless, doesn’t seem to care for the criticism she’s getting about the public option:

“I do not think this is helpful. It doesn’t move me one whit,” she said. “They are spending a lot of money on something that is not productive.”

Spending a lot of money on something that is not productive, eh? Sort of like our private healthcare premiums. Which is why we need the public option, Senator.

Time to double our efforts and call Senator Feinstein a little more often.

Adding… This from Atrios:

Noises from the right are all that can be heard in congressional offices.

And noises from lobbyists.

They’re not answering their phone this morning or they are overloaded. Either way, I couldn’t get through so I emailed her. I will try to call again later in the day.

Wow. That’s a really dickish thing to say. Nice to know that the concerns of her constituents don’t move her “one whit”. Kind of proves the point of the criticisms, Di.

Yet she can vote on issues that impact all of us. I love the Senate.

I got the same e-mail response as well.

    OUT OF STATE

Thank you for sending me your electronic mail message. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Because of the volume of e-mail that is received by my office, we can only respond to email that includes a California postal address. Please resend the text of your e-mail message, including your postal address, and I will respond to you as soon as possible.

Should you need additional information about the Congress, or my offices in Washington and California, please visit my homepage on the World Wide Web. The address is http://feinstein.senate.gov.

Thank you again for contacting me, and I hope you will continue to do so in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Dianne Feinstein, United States Senator

Of course, if you didn’t keep a copy of what you sent because it was an HTML form, this makes it a pain in the ass.

Good morning from California, Bob!Just sent an e-mail to my “illustrious” Senator. I graciously pointed out that if she ignores the needs of both her constituency and the country, she may not win another term in the Senate. Hopefully that will motivate her (I am an optimist despite it all).Have a wonderful day!

That’s odd, Exo. Usually they will at least accept them. I mean, she’s on, or chairman of, committees that oversee issues that affect all Americans, not just those in her state, so you would think she would be open to hearing from everyone. And I’m sure she would be happy to accept a campaign contribution from outside California.

I was able to get through. Spoke with a staffer, said I would ask Sen. Feinstein to get behind the president and the public option 100%. They took my message and zip code. I am in Maryland.

I finally got through on the phone. They didn’t ask for my zip or name or anything as the others have done so my feeling is they know I’m calling from out of state, they’re not going to be too concerned. It was probably my own fault for starting off by saying I was calling from Tennessee.Either way, I think the message we need to send these members of the Coalition is their dinosaur world of worrying only about money and voters in their state has passed. The new world in which they live gives me the ability to contribute to them or to their opponents from anywhere in the world.

Nano,I sent an email to Nancy Pelosi a few months after she was crowned Queen of the Congress, and got the exact same reply. Apparently, the Speaker of the house is only the speaker of the actual house, and not the people the house represents.
