Doof Quote of the Day

“I know it’s going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we’re in. You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money.”
—George W. Bush

Really, Mr. Bush? Are you suggesting that Wall Street corruption, credit card spending, bad mortgages, massive consumer debt and your administration’s encouraging of all four aren’t what got us into this mess in the first place — and that somehow the people responsible will rescue the economy? That’s rich.

Adding… Wasn’t TARP passed by George W. Bush?

I think you picked the wrong quote out of Bush’s little speech Bob. I think he’s topped that with this gem:”I told you I’m not going to criticize my successor. I’ll just tell you that there are people at Gitmo that will kill American people at a drop of a hat and I don’t believe that persuasion isn’t going to work. Therapy isn’t going to cause terrorists to change their mind.”Emphasis mine.So he isn’t going to slam Obama – except he is, while using a double negative which totally reverses his position on ‘persuasion’ of the detainees. What a moron.Yes, President Obama really needs George W Bush’s input on winning hearts and minds – after his policy of torturing detainees did the exact opposite.

You beat me to it, Skippy! I totally noticed that little gem as well. It would seem that GWB has been taking grammar lessons from Sarah Palin. Also. Such as.

Bob,I don’t think W was referencing Wall Street or consumer debt. The private sector shares one bond with a sector of business that hires more people than any other; small businesses. If you think government can hire more people, and spend money more economically effectively than small business America, then I have to ask when you started smoking crack. No one hires more people, and runs cleaner books with budgets that are balanced (I know, balanced budgets! What a concept!). No one provides better retirement funding for their employees than small business America. And no one can make a huger dent in unemployment in a short period of time better than small businesses, jobs which are “permanent”.That’s the private sector W is referring to. Last time I checked, we didn’t bail ANY of them out. Instead, we hung them out to dry.

oh, how I have not missed the idiot. as far as I am concerned him not speaking until 2025 would be too soon. he only did it because vicious dick’s approval numbers went up by 5 points in the latest polls. he just wants to get his poll numbers up.

I’m pretty thankful that mf’er is not president anymore. it’s bad enough he has f’d things up in the worst of possible ways in so many different areas. Now we have to put up with him “weighing in” on it. He is one clueless bastard. As an aside… don’t think these repubs aren’t looking at what is going on over in Iran and thinking ‘…hmmm how can we get a lot of people protesting in the streets’

PPP -Have you looked at how many job openings there are? Almost no one is hiring right now except for jobs that have been created either directly or indirectly by ARRA spending.Your aversion to having the government involved in recovery activity is irrational. The semiconductor industry was directly triggered by government spending on the Apollo project. Government spending kick started that very lucrative market. Your position that government can never contribute anything useful and that only the private sector can is not supported by facts or history.A healthy economy requires both the government and the private sector to behave intelligently. Supply side economics was neither intelligent or successful. The thinking that “The government is always wrong” is only true when the idiot Republicans are in control. They have proven that they are incapable of running anything intelligently.

The only advice I would take from W is his thoughts on “How to get a degree from Yale without learning anything.” He was very successful at that.

  • Skippy

It looks that way Kat. You might even say that Bush is taking a position flexible. ;)

Between January 20 and June 18, I was actually beginning to respect Bush. I foolishly thought maybe he was reflecting on what a terrible job and figured he should just stay away and keep quiet. Now he’s taking a page from his old boss, Cheney.

  • eljefejeff

PPP, you are not a political party pooper. You repeatedly criticize Obama and when Bush is mentioned, you defend him. You are a republican hack, plain and simple.

  • http://politicalpartypooper.wordpress.com/ Political Party Pooper

eljefejeff,Get your facts straight. I hate Bush, I voted for and like Obama. Others here will vouch for me. My TOTAL angst is saved for political parties. I hate them. Period

Git,You are not being honest in your attack of my position. I never said government stimulus couldn’t or wouldn’t work. If you reread my words, you will see that I simply stated that NO ONE creates as many jobs as small business America, and I’ll go further in saying that this is true is ANY economic conditions. Many of the small business owners I know are hiring, and they’ve neither received bailout money or been affected by the Economic recovery act in any positive way.And by the way, Git, the government also bailed out banks so they could begin lending again. I am still hearing many of my contractor clients say they have contracts signed on shovel-ready projects, but mostly banks are not lending the capital even on excellent credit, meaning those contracts are still frozen. It’s been eight months for many of these contracts.Don’t go defending the government too vociferously right now, Git. Many Americans, whose livelihoods are threatened by “governments” inability to hold the banks to the fire, are pissed right now. Should they smile and go about as though everything is rosy? One thing is true for them. If they have to wait for the government to help them, their business will die. There is no argument that can be made against that. We all assumed that “shovel-ready” meant contracts signed and plans drawn.Apparently, “shovel-ready” meant projects two to three years away, or only projects that the local senator received a kickback on.

The only reason that republicans constantly make the government boogeyman argument is because everytime they are in office, they fuck everything up. 8 years of bush = one fuckup right after another, a whole goddamn parade of fuckups 365 days a year for 8 years. He should not be talking

  • eljefejeff

PPP, I’ve read a lot of your posts on here. I appreciate an independent voice but you certainly don’t seem to be any fan of Obama’s, and the first time Bush has been brought up in awhile, you defend him. I call it like I see it. You sure don’t come across as an Obama voter who hates Bush, but if you insist….
