FBI Complicit?

by Lee Stranahan

For all the freakout the wingnuts did on the Right Wing Terror report, the FBI sure didn’t do anything that could have actually prevented Dr. Tiller’s murder. As this piece from The Rachel Maddow explains, the alleged assassin also allegedly glued an abortion clinic’s doors allegedly shut the day before the shooting and it was reported to the FBI, who did nothing. Allegedly. And it wasn’t the first time or even the third.

The FBI sure is able to set up situations where Muslim or left wing terrorists get arrested – even if they might not have been terrorists at all if the FBI hadn’t pushed them into it.

This was disgraceful! As I watched Rachel’s show I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing. I also read somewhere this morning that under the Clinton administration they prosecuted 17 of these types of cases once the FACE law as it’s called was passed yet, under Bush there were 2 prosecutions one year and never more than 4 in any one year. Those bastards all but encouraged these crazy bastards. I hope Eric Holder conducts a full investigation and that these backwood, stupid, toothless banjo players can be put in jail or put down to protect our species!

…so are you upset at the ineptitude of the FBI or because you’d rather see more “right wingers” needlessly prosecuted? This post seems like a poor attempt to drum up anger.

Yeah the FBI really isn’t looking very good right now. They spend a full year setting up some borderline reported, potsmoking, not-really muslims in new york who would have never gotten as far as they did without FBI help.Tiller’s shooter hit the same clinic dozens of times and made threats before. One may get the idea the local FBI simply didn’t care about Tiller. The military recruiter shooter was under watch by an anti-terror task force and still somehow managed to obtain multiple powerful guns including a sniper rifle with a scope and laser sight, and he was able to pull of what he did.Its a trail of epic failure. Then that guy goes on Maddow to claim “well theres these civil liberty obstacles blocking agents”Thats horseshit. It seems pretty clear now the patriot act was passed simply to spy on political opposition(hi elliot spitzer), not ligitimate criminals.

You know, maybe if you torture Cheryl Sullinger, you’ll get her to admit that she ordered the hit on Tiller.

Maybe? Of course you could get her to admit that – and anything else you wanted her to “confess” to.

I saw this and was disgusted. But there may be another reason that the FBI did not do their job. (And let there be no mistake, they did NOT do their job and I hope the family sues. The women of Kansas should sue the bastards for loss of health care. Anyhoo…)Our local FBI office used to be run by a sharp guy named Jeff Lanza. I did not realize until recently that he has retired. Perhaps this is more Bush Administration fall out. It’s an idea.If the FBI investigates police departments when they misstep, who investigates the FBI when they are derelict in their duty?

I would guess its probably the duty of congress to investigate the FBI.But good luck seeing that happen.

Actually, I think the Department of Justice investigates the FBI

Imaginista,It’s a selective sample, but from the comments in the recent religion threads here or for that matter on other online forums I participate in, no one is lumping the religious liberals with the fundamentalists. We can make that distinction based on actions. “By their fruits shall ye know them” (Matt 5:13).I understand that many people are motivated to do great things by religion, but to expect an audience as diverse as the American people to swallow assorted anc contrdictory dogmas is a bit much.Whether your faith tells you to outlaw abortion or to give charity to the poor, it’s still policy by religious diktat no matter how benign. Now, other reasons for supporting or opposing this or that cause may of course apply – the varied rational arguments we marshal to explain why welfare is right, why war is counterproductive etc… thus Occam’s Razor tells us to drop the mystical and theological reasons and focus on the material, because it’s the only common ground we know we have.We agree that religion and state power must remain separate. In Christopher Hitchens’ over-used line, “Mr. Jefferson, build up that wall!”I may not have been as clear as I’d like above, so I’ll try an example. If Obama tells me I should support welfare because Jesus said so, I’d point out that as an atheist I don’t care what Jesus has to say. If, on the other hand, he contended that welfare helps people get an education, lift them from poverty and spare them from lives of crime, etc then I’ll be all ears, and I’ll agree. We just don’t need to bring religion up at all in terms of policy.

Lee,I don’t know about the FBI being complicit, but I do have suspicions about the prosecutors in this case NOT applying the same standards as in other cases!I even PM’ed Bob about this. I see no reason this would not be considered a “capital murder” case, meaning the death penalty applies! Now, I’m opposed to the death penalty for a number of reasons, but my point is that they’re not applying the same standards to this case as they have in other recent cases.I mean this guy hunted Dr. Tiller down! In his place of worship!
