Formidable Opponent, With Mike Pence

POINT. Mike Pence in favor of endorsing Mousavi and his supporters:

Look, the cause of America is freedom. And in that cause, we must never be silent. [...] I think the Congress behind me ought to take up a resolution that very simply expresses the support of the American people through their elected representatives for the people of Iran who are taking a stand for freedom.

COUNTERPOINT. Mike Pence against endorsing Mousavi and his supporters:

Well, look, I don’t think we should be in the business of endorsing the opposition candidate.

These comments, according to John Cole, were 30 seconds removed from each other on CNN. Seriously.

And I’m pretty sure a quickie Google search will turn up comments by Mike Pence about going to war against Iran.

Oh lookit.

Actually I’ve seen this same behavior by nearly every wrong-winger I’ve seen talk about Iran over the past couple days. They take both sides of the argument within a minute of eachother.

Its fascinating to try and glean what’s going on over there. However, whether this will lead to “freedom” or even is designed to result in freedom is hard to gauge. Read over where Michael Totten is blogging that the main actors in this uprising are all architects of the 1979 revolution. They may be aiming for some sort of change, or perhaps more power for themselves, but my guess is freedom as we define it is not.
