Mandatory Nightmares

BooMan points us to Dr. Tiller’s admission criteria:

Admission Criteria
In order to offer you an appointment, we require that a physician refer you to our center. In addition, we need your genetic counselor or doctor to provide us with gestational and diagnostic information regarding your pregnancy. Over the past twenty-five years, we have had experience with pregnancy terminations in such situations as anencephaly, Trisomy 13, 18, and 21, polycystic kidney disease, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, Potter’s syndrome, lethal dwarfism, holoprosencephaly, anterior and posterior encephalocele, non-immune hydrops, and a variety of other very significant abnormalities.

Contrary to O’Reilly’s myths and lies, I don’t see “didn’t want to miss the rodeo” on this list. Snark aside, it’s clear that women weren’t walking into Dr. Tiller’s clinic, plunking down a dollar an having drive-thru late-term abortions. Likewise, hospitals aren’t clogged with people lining up for voluntary amputations. Nearsighted radicals like O’Reilly only see the gruesome nature of the procedure (invasive surgeries are, despite our technological development, still quite barbaric) and fail to grasp the desperate, nightmarish medical scenarios that surround it.

Adding… O’Reilly and others routinely mention the cost of the procedure, $5000, as though it’s a frivolous, minor sum. And it is — for anyone as wealthy as O’Reilly. But imagine being a middle or working class woman who is facing this horrific, potentially life-threatening worst case scenario, and not having the money (or geographic proximity to Wichita) to afford the proper medical care.

Andrew Sullivan’s blog has been emotionally brutal over the past few days, as he has been sharing personal stories of those who have had late term abortions. I can’t abide by any person who thinks that such a decision is a frivolous one.Yet, many conservatives think this is so. Try reading a rightie blog sometime. “Obama’s mother would have aborted him if it would have been legal” shows up a lot.

Yeah, but that doesn’t help Orally’s cause.

As far as the gruesome nature of it, has O’Reilly ever seen any surgeries. Or anyone give birth? Especially Caesarean. Because–it ain’t exactly rainbows.

They keep bring up that $5000 in the context of, “for only $5000, you can purchase a late-term abortion”, which illustrates your point. But in addition to that, what would have been the ongoing medical costs, time-off-from-work costs, and emotional costs? In my opinion, they only care about life before birth and after death. In between, yer on yer own!Boggles the mind.

My mother-in-law and I were talking about this very thing last night. What type of person would use the airwaves to say that women who carry a child 5 months or more willingly and easily decide to kill their babies? It’s a difficult decision for any woman even if early on they decide to terminate a pregnancy. It is much more traumatic for a woman that has to make this decision late in a pregnancy as this woman had every hope and intention of becoming a mother. These sick ass bastards that take to the airwaves to demonize and villify these women during the most heartwrenching times of their lives are truly evil men. As usual.

Amen J!!!!! I can personally vouch for Caesareans being the exact opposite of freakin’ rainbows!ARRRGH!!!!! In fact I’m not sure whats more gruesome: The procedure itself or the long ass recovery process.

It’s difficult enough having a 1st term abortion. I can’t imagine having a late term one.I notice most of the wingnut commentary is by men. Like they would even have a clue about any of this.No offense to the men on this blog.

I am sick of people having to explain that late-term (or any) abortions are not undertaken frivolously. The reasons women have abortions are NOBODY else’s business. Maybe there are women out there who have abortions for “convenience” or because they can’t be bothered to use birth control. I doubt it but even if there are it’s NONE of my business and none of yours either. As long as we treat abortion as some sort of special thing that women have to earn the right to have, we’ll always be making excuses and yielding the high ground to the anti-women forces that range from the finger-waggers to the murderous. The reason for abortion is not open to debate any more than the reason for any other medica; procedure.

Having $5,000.00 will only buy you a late term abortion if their is a medical need for one. You won’t get one for only wanting one. Without a medical need the procedure is illegal. Dr. Tiller did not perform illegal abortions. He was accused of it, but a court found him innocent.BillO is a liar on so many levels. The man disgusts me with his vile propaganda.

Anti-abortion people act as if the goal of pro choice advocates is to have an abortion clinic in every Starbucks, as if their goal is to promote abortions. Anti-abortion people can’t imagine that someone would want to reduce the number of abortions by helping to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, find homes for unwanted children, and make sure that if an abortion is needed it is because of dire circumstances for mother and / or child. Abortion is not an option that anyone hopes for.

I posted some of this in rage mode at Wolfe Tone’s blog, but feel I need to here as well. (not in rage mode, in calm, disgusted mode)As a woman in my 40′s, I have not known one woman who used abortion as birth control. I would like to meet just one of these women, just one.I have not known anyone who needed a late term abortion, but after reading the posts from the women who have on Sullivan’s site, my heart aches for them and their families. As hard as the decision is in the early stages, I cannot fathom what must be an emotional toll when deciding on a late term.As Beauzeaux saidThe reasons women have abortions are NOBODY else’s businessThis decision, for early or late term abortions, is to be made by the woman, the father if circumstances allow and her doctor. It is not my business nor yours. The people who think they should be in my uterus and my bedroom don’t want the gov’t anywhere else. Why is that? Why don’t they want to help provide support for the young women? Before and after pregnancy? When I get a good answer for that, I may listen to them.

People just don’t realize that Billo has vast medical knowledge and he is able to predict what treatment women will need. He has obtained this vast medical knowledge in consultation with the invisible man in the sky.
