I would say that Colbert is our modern Will Rogers, but Colbert is his own man altogether. When I watched him do this DADT bit in front of the troops the other night I was simply amazed at his cajones and at his ability to get away with it unscathed. Such is his genius. Colbert is a national treasure.

That camouflage dress suit is a comedic masterwork. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that sight gag before. What gets me is not the fact that he debated the issue on his show, but that his argument made perfectly logical sense. Understand that the debate itself is idiotic and should not be taking place to begin with, thus Colbert discussing it with himself sheds light on the fact of DADT’s asininity.Very good stuff.

That was awesome and I was surprised to hear laughter and no boos. I love the way he and Jon Stewart have such an ability to point out the completely absurd, then rip it to pieces with a smile on their face.Great!

Bob, No idea whether you you saw the request I sent for this to your hotmail account, but glad to see you post this.

    Colbert has a huge set.

No one ever discusses the real reason the manly-men are afraid of having teh gays around. I’m sure there will be plenty of dissent, but here’s my personal observation over nearly three decades: The manliest men look at women they work with and think of them sexually. The worst expect you to thin the same way and share their thoughts with you. My usual answer to, “I’d do her.”, was “like you’d have the opportunity?” As usual, I was called an asshole.

So, what’s their beef? They’re afraid teh gays will be looking at their asses like they do the women and thinking about having sex with them.

I’m embarrassed to admit I was vehemently anti-gay early during my career. In my defense, that’s part of how I was raised to be a bigot. I had overcome my father’s hatred of those who aren’t white by meeting some and learning that the crap he spewed was lies. The same thing happened with gays, but took longer because those I served with rarely were open about it.

The most important thing to me in my fellow service members is job performance. I expected the same professionalism from all. It seems many (if not most) of the younger folks grasp this too.
