I guess Rush didn’t get his talking points faxed to him today. All he could muster about Obama’s speech was to say he threw Israel under the bus and read right wing blog reactions. At least that’s what I’m told by a source. I can’t stand iistening to him personally.

Carl did you see the link I posted last night on FB regarding the cost of shrub’s vacations? Also, DP put it in perspective for me, the amount of time he spent on vacation. She said the amount of time is almost the entire JFK administration. I knew it was a lot, but comparatively, just blows my mind.

Just watching the clip of Liz Cheyney on MSNBC earlier. I have a new drinking game. Take a drink every time she says “I find it troubling”. Seriously, you’ll be smacked before you know it.Next time she is on TV, I hope the person asking questions asks her ‘Tell me again why you are on TV?”. Is there really any difference between her and the 26 year old son of Kim Jong-Il?

When Obama’s speech ended (the live version) this morning, Liz Cheney was the first person MSNBC called on for a reaction. Unbelievable. Were they expecting her to say “ya know, he’s right. By god, I LIKE this guy!”?

If fucking figures that Fixed News would go that route. I’m expecting Hannity, Rush et al to continue that route. I suppose they couldn’t stomach watching the speech so they took a transcript and did a wrd search for “terror.” It wasn’t Rush because he apparently doesn’ know HOW to do a word search.Nope, no “terror”.”Al-Qaeda” 3 times.”Extremists” 9 times.”Extremism” twice.”9/11″ twice.”Afghanistan” 5 times. But no “terror.” Why is he avoiding talking about terrorism?!

They take the real story, filter out the one or two bits of stuff they need (Obama speaks, to Middle East Muslims) and then just make shit up to suit whatever surreal vision they are hallucinating this moment.Example: Obama spoke today to Middle Eastern Muslims. He told them that Islam rulz and Israel is teh sux0r. Obama is an evil communist fascist muslim whose going to steal your guns and your firstborn.

Josh just started campaigning with Santos working toward NH primary. President Bartlet had the awful MS paralysis in China. Not long after Donna’s injuries in Gaza and Leo’s heart attack. Maybe season late 6, early 7? I’m also downloading it all on bittorrent which makes it take 3 minutes to post anything here or elsewhere when running it–several weeks so far, 700GB per season and have to stop when kid plays his game or we blow the router’s mind and both our efforts.

The Invisible Pink Unicorn (IPU) is really the best deity ever. She (Yes, She is Pink, She is a she. Both male and female unicorn have horns.) never interferes with anything we do but is always willing to listen. She created the universe nine billion years ago by triggering the big bang and has been watching ever since. She created all of this because she was lacking in entertainment. Forever gets boring. The IPU never interferes. It’s completely up to us to deal. She told me once “Hey, I created all this shit so that you could do whatever you want with it. I not telling you what to do. Surprise me. Deal with it.”The IPU came with no scripture, no medieval baggage based on shit that stopped being relevant a millennium ago. The IPU has no incompatibility with science because all she did was trigger the big bang, pick values for physical constants then stood back and watched. The dinosaurs were real. The earth is really six billion years old. Evolution produced unlikely life forms like ourselves, slime mold, and Michael Jackson.Lee says I an insane for believing in the IPU.I say Lee is insane for not believing in the IPU.Lee is obviously the real religion bigot around here.I’ve never murdered doctors because the IPU told me to. The IPU would never make such a horrible suggestion. She listens, she sometimes gives advice, but she never suggests or commands a course of action.I am very happy with my faith. I won’t bother any of you with it again unless I am asked.

BitTorrent technology itself is plenty safe. The only unsafe part of it is is some of the unscrupulous torrent search websites. If you don’t watch your step you may get malware or spyware. For the most part though its safe.Vera – Its not exactly like naptster but it is similar in basic function. Its sort of like napster without the middle man. You connect directly to other people with the files you’re looking for whom are sharing it.

BitTorrent is pretty safe. No one person rovides the download. You download chunks from a swarm of sites. They make it very hard for the RIAA to spy on things. If you are on windows the client that most people use is uTorrent (microtorrent).I’m on Linux so I use the real bitTorrent package which is written in python. You could run the real bitTorrent on windows but you’d have to install python.

Sorry, was off the computer a few. Bittorrent is not exactly legal, much like Napster before it started charging and going the legal route. But lately the authorityyes have given up prosecution because of the costs compared to the settlements and are only going after the major file-sharers with complicity of the ISP. The first thing done is a warning. The second is losing your internet service. I don’t do a lot of it so (knock on wood) I take my chances. And most of what I d/l (not West Wing) is replacement for something I’ve bought at least once anyway so I don’t get hung up on the ethical thing. I have the Ion turntable to make vinyl into mp3 (thanks to ceu) but it takes sitting and marking between each track so I shortcut when I can–I am fifty and have several hundred albums. I can’t possibly live long enough. Wouldn’t take so long but if I answer the phone or have to pee, I have to start all over.

BitTorrent is completely legal and many things are shared on it which are in no way in violation of copyrights laws. Now, using it for things which do violate such laws is not legal, but the worst that you may see happen is your ISP asking you to stop doing it or else they might… warn you again, and again. Its really not in their business interest to actively pursue file sharers. As DP pointed out, the RIAA decently decided they aren’t going to try prosecuting people anymore because its futile.

DP -Downloading copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder is illegal.BitTorrent is legal because it has significant noninfringing uses. Linux software sources and executables are distributed using bitTorrent perfectly legally because the software license allows such sharing. The shit (and I do mean garbage) from the media cartel is not legal to share because they are greedy prick assholes that got our copyright terms extended to “until hell freezes over”.Copyright term was 14 years when the U.S. Copyright Law was first written. Jefferson argued for 7 and thought 14 was radically too long.Copyright Law now says life of the author plus 70 years unless it’s owned by a company then it’s 85 years. The Colecovision games released in 1983 will be protected by copyright until 2068. A machine to play them in hasn’t been manufactured since 1984. Good luck finding one. Those games will enter the public domain about 80 years after the software had any relevance for anything. Those games are all in Z80 assembly language. The real source code is probably already long lost. But it’s protected by copyright.BitTorrent is not illegal. You can use it to do illegal things. You can use your car to do illegal things.

Guns in Churches! What could go wrong? One of the southern states, I think SC IIRC, had a law that required all men to wear guns to church. This state law was passed sometime in the early 1800s when a group of bandits on horseback invaded the town on Sunday morning when everyone was in Church. Since everyone had left their guns at home, including the Sheriff and his deputies, the bandits were able to rob everyone and empty every cashbox. The law was passed the next week because it was assumed that the band would repeat the stunt in other towns. They must have heard about the law and never made another attempt. The law was still on the book in the 1970s. It may still be. It hasn’t been enforced in over a century.

Meanwhile here in yankeeland, the Capitol police in HTFD had the NJ police arrest Hal Turner for using his blog & radio to incite violence by threatening/promising to release the home addresses of two state congresscritters & a guy who works in the ethics office.“It is our intent to foment direct action against these individuals personally,” the blog stated. “These beastly government officials should be made an example of as a warning to others in government: Obey the Constitution or die.”The Capitol police response to that was: “Mr. Turner’s comments are above and beyond the threshold of free speech,” Capitol Police Chief Michael J. Fallon said in an e-mail announcing the warrant. “He is inciting others through his website to commit acts of violence and has created fear and alarm. He should be held accountable for his conduct.”We don’t put up with that shit here… :)

Yeah, but when he posted how to build gliders and fly them over the inauguration bit bombs and blow up the capitol with everyone sitting there, they didn’t think that was serious enough. He had detailed instructions with pictures on his blog back in December and early January of that. Mr. Turner did.. The Secret Service and FBI questioned him then and let him go. I guess threatening the President elect and all the members of Congress wasn’t good enough at that time.

“Mr. Turner’s comments are above and beyond the threshold of free speech,” Capitol Police Chief Michael J. Fallon said in an e-mail announcing the warrant. “He is inciting others through his website to commit acts of violence and has created fear and alarm. He should be held accountable for his conduct.”Why are Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, and Glenn Beck not under arrest? Do state legislators get better protection than Doctors and other normal citizens?
