I think things are starting to “normalize” (as much as politics can be normal these days with the GOP being at all-time crazy levels) and the Obama Administration is clearly honing in on health care, leaving a myriad of other issues in the background.The quality of the content on this blog, IMO, is still top notch. It’s one of the few political blogs I stuck with after the election.

Has the PTT jumped the shark? I don’t think so, but I do believe your increasing popularity which attracted more trolls than usual had a little something to do with it.Also, as the blog as evolved over the last few months, there has been more posting after the PTT than there used to be which has divided attention among visitors. Some are commenting on two or three posts simultaneously causing a lack of cohesion.Then we have two radio shows (Bob & Lee, and Elvis) which slow down the comments, another attention dividing mechanism.

so…maybe what you might do is put up an open thread for 3 or 4 days or a week – bump it up nightly or during the day if news events warrant, which will also cut down on OT comments on other threads. People can post stuff they’ve seen or reactions & prompt discussions and it will have the added benefit of drawing in people when they come in to read the other things you post – especially on the days when you have a piece at HuffPo. They see an ongoing discussion & join in.Just tossing it out there…

We are in that calm period between me driving him around and me worrying about him driving.I hope that the FBI is finally doing it’s job by taking down notes about the folks picketing the Dr.’s funeral.And, I am very amused by the comments on HuffPo regarding the lack of reliability of banks quarterly financial reports due to the repeal of mark-to-market. Well I can say from own personal experience that I post less when the PTT starts this late. I think starting it at 6-7 is a much better idea because you grab people’s attention before other things which start around 8 or 9.I do think some of the heavy trolling had a temporary impact, and some people are only lurking on facebook now.Some PTT still reach toward 50-70+ recently.Also posting the PTT earlier at 6-7 and then posting 1-2 more things above it sort of masks the popularity level.

We have moved over to FB to a certain extent, and engage in our “beer time” over there. I agree that perhaps a open thread during the weeknights only, especially on Wednesdays after you post your HuffPo piece. And maybe instead of posting a separate radio thread, keep them all together. But, my interest in the good, intelligent comments caused me to return. Everyday.I am just an old trial lawyer living in Mexico. I do not have a bucket of clever words like Git and the others. I suspect that your club is made up primarily of east coast intellectuals. I have no problem with this. But is everybody that jumps in a “troll” with no seat at the bar?So, if your PTT has evolved into a small club of smart people that regard themselves way too highly, then that is part of the problem. Perhaps, a free speech concept here.There are other reasons for the drop. Your loyal club members have delineated them. Summer, radio shows, etc..
