Super Stupid

Thanks in part to some misleading and inept reporting by the New York Times, wingnuts seriously think President Obama said that America is a Muslim nation. Here’s the full quote from the president:

Now, the flip side is I think that the United States and the West generally, we have to educate ourselves more effectively on Islam. And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. And so there’s got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples.

Yeah so? This is what the wingnut fuss is all about? He was clearly making a point about the number of Muslims in America. Not that we ARE a Muslim nation — that we would be considered a nation with a large number of Muslims.

By the way, if you look at the number of super stupid wingnuts, we’d be one of the dumbest nations in the world.

    I am glad he said it! I for one never looked at it that way and he is right. Once again I thank my President who is very thoughtful and obviously well prepared before speaking about anything. How refreshing!

    I think President Obama will be sending the right wing into overdrive this week. And I’m sure a small part of him knows it and enjoys it. In addition to this statement, he told another reporter that Americans loves all things French and I’m sure there will be some “apologizing” in his Cairo speech. Teh Awesome.

    Obama is stretching a bit though – we don’t even come close to breaking the top 10 in terms of Muslim population (generally estimated around 5 million).
