The AMA Wants To Screw You, Too

Sam Stein:

Just days before President Barack Obama is set to address the American Medical Association to pitch its members on his vision for health care reform, the 250,000-member physician group announced it would oppose a major component of that effort.

On Wednesday night, the New York Times reported that AMA was “letting Congress know” that it would resist a public plan for health insurance coverage.

By “letting Congress know,” they mean “buy off as much of it as they can.” Stein reminds us that during the Clinton attempt at healthcare reform, the AMA spent $3 million to derail the effort, and then — inexplicably — endorsed Newt Gingrich’s Medicare bill.

Single Payer system adopted one way or the other by every single western civilized country. What does that tell you about the American, die in the streets if you don’t have the money, we will step over you. I am ashamed to be a neighbour of the United States. The way you treat your people will see you who choose to support this, shamed in Hell.Lary Waldman

In Mexico they call it “mordida”….. or “the bite”.In the U.S. we call it “lobbying”. Sometimes the payment is delayed until the recipient is out of office. But “bribery” is “bribery”. It does not matter what term we assign. The bribery that will happen with the attempt to create a real system of health care will be unprecedented. Just watch the lame comments from the elected putas that are taking or have been promised the bribes.

It will be truly amazing to see if Obama and the progressive dems can stand up against the lobbyiests against public option or healthcare reform in general without getting a weak and watered down bill that helps no one.I’m not holding my breath. I think they’ll cave as usual.Hope I am so out of the box wrong on this.

They’re scared. This is just the beginning, but it will get very ugly by the end.We have to push back on our Congress just as hard.

VERY ugly. I hope everyone’s spines are firmly implanted in the upright position. But in the meantime, while they are bickering for months, unemployed and uninsured folks like me are hanging on by a thread-hoping we don’t keel over or come down with a life ending disease or accident.

The AMA leadership is not speaking for their membership since recent polls indicate that better than 60% of U.S. physicians favor a single payer health care system. The AMA leadership is wholly owned and operated by the corporate overlords. Physicians for a National Health Program is a better representatives of what most doctors actually think. The AMA is part of the corporatist system of authoritarian government that we find ourselves in.
