The Big Lie

There’s a concept floating around among bribed officials and talkers that controlling healthcare costs will automatically make healthcare more affordable. They seriously think we’re going to fall for this. Digby reports:

We know that the US already spends more on health care per capita than any other industrialized country and doesn’t cover everyone. Is it really reasonable to believe that the insurance companies are going to voluntarily cut their own profits?

It’s not and they won’t. The only way you’ll pay less for health insurance is if the government competitively forces private industry to reduce their premiums.

Likewise, mandating health insurance companies to accept customers with preexisting conditions while forcing everyone to have health insurance will only sanction the insurers to gouge those customers. The public option solves this, too.

As long as the protection racketeers (insurance companies) are part of the health care equation, health care will be an expensive proposition. The only reason Single Payer is politically difficult is because the insurance lobby also controls the propaganda channels (MSM). The American public favors a Single Payer Health Care System by a comfortable majority. We are told otherwise because the corporatists control the primary information sources. We are fed lies about this for the same reason news from Iran is ignored. Congress opposes public health care because they are paid to oppose it.

All the politicians shaking in their boots over the media’s portrayal of the healthcare debate are going to get a rude awakening by the voters if they do not support a public option.Every single one that votes against it should and will have endless radio and tv commericals lobbed at them for voting against healthcare for everyone.

All one has to do is look at current run programs like Medicare to get a taste of government involved programs. Compare what Medicare will pay for with what private insurance pays for and you will soon learn two words..”not covered”. ASo when you hear people talk about “expensive Medicare is, and they are going to cut costs, what are they talking about? If they are going to cover everybody, how do they cut costs?? They cut costs by reducing what’s covered. That’s what you end up with, everyone gets insurance, the same crappy insurance. Compare what Medicare covers to what private insurance covers, compare government involved insurance to private insurance. For those that have none, it’s better than nothing. How many Americans what to trade their high quality insurance for crappy insurance? Not many.

how many Americans truly consider their insurance “high quality”? Not all that many…How is money saved? With a single payer system, there are much lower overhead costs AND the costs of insurance premiums is taken out of the hands of employers – profits go up, salaries go up, disposable income goes up, tax revenues go up. Ultimately the cost of universal coverage pays for itself.

I have. It is you that obviously haven’t. The stories of denial of claims by the insurance companies are legion. I had a neighbor that had to hire an attorney to sue his insurance company for breach of contract so that they would cover a procedure that was clearly listed as covered in the insurance plan. This was not an isolated occurrence. There are thousands of these stories.Your statements about medicare sound exactly like the BS propaganda about medicare put out by the insurance industry lobbyists. Try talking to someone actually on medicare like I have. The only complaints I hear are about the Medicare D prescription coverage BS that Bush pushed through.Keep believing the propaganda put out by the people that are robbing you blind. Ignorance is bliss. Maybe when we have to pay four times what the rest of the world pays for health care instead of just double you’ll catch a clue. I won’t hold my breath waiting for that though. When a majority of physicians (who tend to be conservative) in this country favor a Single Payer Health Care System, then you know that something is wrong. But just keep paying the insurance companies to deny your health claims. They won’t thank you but they’ll rob you to death. The only people that think our health care system is OK right now are people who have never used it. Anyone that has used it knows that it is badly broken. If you do some reading at Physicians for a National Health Program you will discover that physicians are getting very tired of arguing with overpaid insurance industry apparatchiks on how to treat their patients. Their complaints are with the insurance industry, not with medicare. How do you explain that since it seems completely contrary to the insurance industry propaganda bullshit you are helping to spread? I suppose that all of those doctors are just liars.Exactly who benefits from having a commercial organization answerable only to its stockholders, none of whom have sworn an oath, involved in my health care? At least my doctor swore an oath to treat me with dignity and do no harm. The only promise the insurance industry makes is to generate a profit.

They’re just recycling the health care “cost-cutters” proposal from a couple of weeks ago. Which is funny, since the industry backed off its pathetic offer about two days later.

This is the only blog where I’ve seen the consequences of business as usual discussed. It appears the Senators Quo have no clue. I don’t think the comparisons to Iran are unwarranted. We had an election, too, and we thought we won — but did we really?

Check this pile of BS:http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/15/miron.health.costs/index.htmlHe basically suggests to make people pay entire premium (no employer tax-exempt contribution) so they can choose cheaper less-benefits options as a way to save money!!!. And to raise age limit for Medicare to 70 so old people die before becoming eligible. Of course reducing profit margins for the insurance giants is not under discussion.Talk about Harvard genius.

A few things to remember about Health Insurance in this country….Whether you are in favor of Medicare or not every commerical insurance company bases what they cover on what Medicare covers.Doctors often have to hire lawyers to negotiate contracts with commercial insurance companies. Also part of the cost of healthcare comes from Doctors having to hire staff to fight the insurance companies on behalf of their patients, reduce denials and you will reduce the number of staff in the doctors office and lower the cost of doing business.I am in this business and I will tell you that Medicare has fewer denials than any other insurance company and they have very clear rules about what they will cover and what they won’t. Of my 40hr work week I might spend 2 of those hours on Medicare problems and the other 38 hours are fighting with commercial insurances. The only ways to lower the costs of health care are to reduce unnecessary denials, reduce the office staff needed to fight them, and reduce the administative costs of commerical insurance which runs upward of 20% compared to about 4% with Medicare.PBS showed HealthCare around the World again this past week. It’s a Frontline special. Very Very good.Fight for the Public Option!!Fight for the public option!!!
