The Shooting in Arkansas

Because they strongly believe that people aren’t influenced by what they see and hear on television, wingnuts like Glenn Beck and Michelle Malkin are blaming Keith Olbermann and MSNBC and liberals everywhere for the Arkansas shooting of two military recruiters.

Seriously.

Beck, in particular, said that Olbermann once called our troops “baby killers” — which is absolutely untrue and ridiculous.

The wingnuts would have a point, of course, if Olbermann or other prominent liberals were repeatedly and personally attacking these specific recruiters by name on television — as O’Reilly and others did to Dr. Tiller for many years. But as far as I know, no serious commentator or blogger has ever once criticized any military recruiter, much less the two soldiers who were shot.

    If the recruiters failed in their job, if no one enlisted, if no one came to the party then the military complex and it’s figureheads in the oval office would find it just a bit more difficult to wage wars in places like Iraq and Afghanistan that result in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians…including babies.
